The Deviate's Phantom System

'Ruin the natural environment and you'll take the living organism out of its natural, healthy habitat. It will desperately accept deviations in its life-or-death struggle to survive. It will become a deviate before it surrenders to extermination...' This, was the advanced idea of Duke Priester—when he was still publicly and generally accepted as the world's most ingenious biotechnologist. And he had 'The Priester Labs' which was one of the greatest and highly ranked infrastructure/laboratory in the world at the time, to his name. Then, fresh out of college as the best graduating student in the whole department and being the only child of extremely wealthy parents, he'd pooled enough resources to build the first ever science lab in Haveiton and the world at large to touch the skies, both figuratively and literally. This very building was the center of attention for the super powers all over the world due to the advanced tech himself and his other employees created and just like that, he became one of the most influential and famous men in the world. Duke's mind worked faster and smarter than most human's. It was a blessing at first, but eventually, it became a curse. His unsurpassed greed fuelled ravenously by the desire for even more fame and glory made him begin to imagine the 'impossible.' And what happens when you begin to imagine a particular thing repeatedly? You swing into action in an attempt to carry it out. This was what Duke Priester did. What did he do? What was the effect it had on the world, including parallel universes? How was he going to atone for his sins? And would he be ready to sacrifice what he loved the most to finally be able to truly say 'I'm free?'

I Transmigrated?

In a small house, just beside a lake, a young boy whose eyes had been closed for days suddenly opened with a golden glow that dimmed immediately after.

The young boy had barely moved his eyes to analyze the situation he was in or where he was, when he heard a tiny, feminine voice.

"Welcome to the world of the living Duke Priester—or should I say, Hall Ramon." The childlike voice said.

Immediately a system notification appeared before his eyes.

[System Re-activating...]

[System Re-activation Complete!]

[User Identification...]

[Hall Ramon]

[System Modification ongoing...]

"What the hell is happening?" The boy mumbled with a groan as he tried to sit up on the bed he was on but felt a piercing pain lance through his body. It was then he noticed that his body was bandaged for the most part.

And that was not all, 'his' body wasn't even really his body. This body looked more like the body of a scrawny fifteen years old kid rather than his godly, well-groomed twenty seven.

"You've been Transmigrated." The voice answered.

"Transmigrated, uh?"

The voice speaking to him sounded oddly familiar. Infact it sounded like—

[System Modification Complete!]

"Whenever you are ready, you can view your stats, Hall Ramon." He heard the voice say.

"Is that you talking, system?" The boy asked. He was very sure this voice belonged to the system. the only difference was, the system had never called him by his name before. It was always 'User this' or 'User that'

And at other times, it just used the pronoun 'You'

(Of course by now, the reader—which is you...yes you—must have realized that the young boy is now Duke, and Duke is now Hall Ramon.)

In response to his question, an extremely miniature human being appeared before his eyes. The human being resembled a young, cute lady who wore a long, skintight white gown which had thigh high slits at both sides. Attached to her back and beating fairly fast were a pair of glowing gauze-like wings, and in her hand was a sceptre having the same length as the wielder.

She, was a fairy.

"You are correct, Hall Ramon." She said, her voice tranquil, just like the goddess from earlier.

Hall squinted his eyes as that along with speaking was the only actions he could make without feeling as much pain.

"And where have you been all this while?"

Upon hearing that question, the tranquil expression on the fairy's face twisted into an unsightly one.

"In your head!" She screamed, although to Hall Ramon, it sounded more like the shrill cry a rat would make when cornered.

He was about to comment on that , but she wasn't done ranting yet.

"Did you know how terrible and painful it was for this charming fairy to be restricted to only being able to speak to you as if I was a robot?? And what was worse, you never listened to me!"

Hall chuckled ever so slightly. "Well...I'm sorry. But, I'm not promising anything."

The fairy humphed and turned her face away in disgust.

"You haven't told me your name...or should I call you 'system?'"

"This fairy's name is Shaira...' She replied without so much as turning towards his direction. "But you can call me Ira."

"So Ira, why did you call me...hm, what was it again?" Hall said, his aim of course just to annoy Ira the more.

Ira, who wasn't oblivious to his plan, coldly snorted and disappeared from his sight, leaving him to his thoughts.

He could clearly remember the short conversation he'd had with the goddess before she snapped her fingers, and if he was alive now and in someone's body, then it could only mean one thing. He'd Transmigrated.

'It seems she wasn't lying after all.'

Since he didn't have anything to do, not that he could really do anything at the moment than lie down and brood, he decided to browse through the memories of the body he now possessed.

After a few minutes of so doing, Duke sighed as he came to a conclusion.

'So the former owner of this body was a pathetic loser without any abilities whatsoever.' He thought, a grim look on his face. Perhaps he'd spoken too soon regarding the goddess' deal.

Although she had given him a 'new slate' it wasn't the kind he was hoping for.

Apparently, the boy whose name was Hall Ramon was the third son born into the Ramon family. There were four children in all, however unlike the others, he did not have any ability.

In this world, people were being naturally gifted with an ability the moment they were born but those abilities most often lied dormant and only after they were at least five years old would it activate.

Hall was fifteen at present and he'd never showed any sign of having any ability whatsoever. His case was quite disturbing for his parents who has an ability, but there was nothing they could do about it. The only redeeming quality Hall possessed was his breathtaking beauty.

Even his sister, Venus Ramon who was just Eight years old and was already considered to be able to compete with the best of the best in the area of natural beauty couldn't compare to him. But, she still had an advantage over him and that made all the difference in this world. She had an ability, although it wasn't certain what it was.

Lee Ramon, his first and eldest brother who was twenty six at the time had been drafted into the army to fight in an inter-continental war a few years ago, which unfortunately had led to his demise. Many other families lost their first male children in that war for supremacy.

One would think that none of the Ramon children would dare to join the army after what happened to their brother, but Rocci Ramon, the next child was not so cowardly. Against his parent's wish, he'd gone ahead to join the army on his own volition.

He had risen to the rank of a commander and was currently in a battle far away from here.

Also, judging from the interior of the room he was in, he surmised that this family wasn't actually very wealthy. But maybe his judgement was perverse due to his former life of luxury.

And as for his present condition, Duke found it amusing.

Hall had tried to fend off some smoke cats deep in the forest behind the house when they began making advancements on the family's chicken.

At first, the cats were wary of him as they couldn't detect his ability nor his level, but it didn't take long before the cat was out of the bag and then they all pounced on him.

If not for an adventurer who by chance was making his way back to the town through that forest and who saw and rescued him, perhaps he along with the chicken would have been completely erased from the face of the world by now.

'Truly pathetic.'

The previous Hall had learned to accept his lot in life, but this wasn't the same for the present Hall Ramon. If there was nothing else, there was always the system—and it was a lot!

"Hey Ira, open the system will ya?"

There was no reply, but he got his request granted regardless.

Once Hall read to this level, he shook his head in sorrow and regret.

'If my eyes are not deceiving me, my years of progress have been flushed down the drain!' He lamented.

It seemed he'd have to start all over from the very beginning. He took his eyes to the next tab directly below the stats tab.

[Skills]

It was locked.

The next tab which was [Armoury] was also locked, same for [Companion Pet].

"Talk about from grace to grass...or rather to mud." Hall said.

Regaining his former level of expertise would now be dependent on a lot of things he currently had no control of at the moment.

Hopefully things would begin to change for the better soon. He noticed the modification the system talked about as in his former life there was no [Armoury] tab nor [Companion Pet] tab.

He figured the modification was possibly in relation to this present world in which he was in.

Also, there wasn't an [Ability] stat.

But not only was there an [Ability] tab, there was something other than a question mark.

'Smoke uh?' He thought, trying to understand why he would suddenly have a smoke ability. It only took him a few moments before he got his answer. But it only brought more questions.

'Why did he copy the ability of those smoke cats? How?'

At that moment, pangs of slow, yet continuous pain boomed in his head.

All this thinking was beginning to have a toll on his mind, which started making him doubt the [Mind] stat he'd seen.

Perhaps he would just take a nap for the time being.

However, before he'd begun to close his eyes, the wooden door creaked open and in walked an eight year old girl whose beauty was fascinating.
