Chapter 4

Heather had covered her face the moment that she noticed what she had expected to be smoke filled the room. It took her a few seconds however to realize that it was cold mist that had filled the room and not smoke when she felt the dampness flitter across her arm and rest on her hair. When she uncovered her face to try and figure out what happened, she was met by a sight that she could only describe as adorable.

Where Eirwin had been sitting moments before, there was now a small white/light blue dragon with deep blue almost crystal looking eyes staring back at her buried in his clothes. It's wings were tucked close to it's body but they looked almost as though they were made of ice themselves by the way the scales covered them and the pointed tips looked like icicles.

It wasn't just it's wings thought that had this pattern. As he came up from under the clothes so that she could see his full body, she noticed that all the way down it's back and tail there was a similar pattern mixed in with the flat scales that almost looked as though they glistened in the light of the office.

The small creature let out what could only be described as a snort which caused more mist to puff out it's mouth. It's ears where pressed back on either side of it's head, a sign that Heather had learned was meant to show displeasure.

"I think that I might have to take back what I previously said. I don't think that you're quite fit to be my assistant." Rather then sounding like it came from the dragon itself, Eirwin's voice sounded more like it was floating through the air.

"You know telepathy as well?" Heather asked rather surprised when she realized that would be the most logic reason why she could hear his normal voice despite being in dragon form.

"Indeed, you pick up on somethings quickly at least." He replied as he did a quick shake before shifting so that he could jump up onto the desk. Things weren't going at all the way that he had wanted them to. He would have to yell at Alfred later about this once he was back home.

Heather wasn't quite sure what to say as she watched the small adorable dragon, move to nose the phone off the receiver that was on the desk and use one of his sharp talon feet to press the intercom button.

"Jennifer!." His voice snapped into the intercom, waiting until his secretary had replied before continuing to speak.

"Cancel all my appoints for today. Something else came up that I need to take care of." Even though he sounded high displeased at his current situation, Heather found herself not being able to talk his anger seriously with how adorable he was in his current form.

"If you value the position and still would like to get it, I suggest that you hold your tongue." Eirwin warned. She didn't have to say anything for him to know what thoughts were going through her head.

"I wasn't even going to say anything." She defended as she held her hands up. She doubted that such a majestic evidentially full grown creature would want to hear how adorable they were in their current form. It made her curious why though there seemed to be the disassociation between his human form and his dragon form.

She knew that it usually worked that dragons who shifted into humans had a human form that matched the age of their dragon. Thus if they were young, their human form would take that of a child. Older, they would be an adult. So what was different about Eirwin that didn't follow this system?

"Alfred, you need to come and pick me up. Your most recent candidate to be my personal assistant has already caused a problem hardly after I agreed to give her a chance." Eirwin was thankful that for once he decided to listen to Alfred and put his number on speed dial so that he could use the receiver to call with ease rather than struggling with this phone. There was pause on the receiver before the voice of an older man replied.

"I see sir, I will be there very shortly. I will let you know when I arrive. Do you need me to come up and fetch you when I do?" The other asked. Eirwin paused for a second before he replied, glancing over at Heather as he considered this question.

"Yes and don't make it any longer than necessary." He replied, ending the call before he waited for the other to reply.

"Is this what you meant when you mentioned that I would have to help you with image management if I got the job to work with you?" Heather ventured asking. Curiosity was eating up her thoughts but in order to avoid offending the dragon, she asked the question she thought would be the least problematic.

"Only part of it. I must admit though, I hadn't expected for you to find out if possible." Eirwin replied with a sigh as he perched on the desk. Here he had thought that today might've been a better one for him compared to the others he had recently.

Instead though, his whole day had been thrown off with the unexpected turn of events and there wasn't much that he could do to salvage it. His secret was not out to another person and it looked like he was going to be stuck with her as his assistant if he didn't want to risk her accidentally revealing his secret to anyone else.

"Alfred will be here soon and you will be coming with us for the time being. Considering this happened, there's a lot to explain to you if you're going to be keeping this job." Heather gave him a questioning look, but the small dragon wasn't in the mood to say anything else until Alfred got there. He knew that the older man would be more than happy to talk while he brooded about his current predicament.
