The heart to heart conversation

Regan was in his study room going through some important data in his laptop sitting in front of the wooden desk. Although his heart was a mess due to the unsettling emotions he held for Anna, his mind was still in control of his senses which never let him to mess with his work that was his first love and passion. He was sitting in the same position since hours and was quite occupied with his work when he heard his phone ringing. Without sparing it a glance, he answered it with annoyance clearly written on his face as he didn't like to be disturbed while doing his precious work. However, he picked it up thinking that it might be related something to his office as he abruptly left the previous day after hearing about Anna.

He brought the phone to his ear and was about to curse when he didn't get any reply after holding it for some seconds. He paused because he could feel and hear someone's sharp intake of breath. He didn't know why he felt like his heart skipped a beat after hearing the even breathing of someone on the other line. Without a second thought, before he could stop himself a name escaped from his lips which had been the sweetest thing for him in his life since a few days.

"Anastasia?"

Although he could feel that it was her, her name came out as a question as he didn't expect her to call him like this at this time of hour. Soon his doubts vanished in thin air and his lips curled upwards into a beautiful smile after hearing from her.

"Regan"

He could still not believe that it was actually her. He checked his phone's screen to ensure himself again and was elated with the confirmation. He felt excited as a teenager who was talking to his crush for the first time. He somehow got a grip over himself and replied, "Good evening Anastasia."

"Ummm..... Good evening"

Something crossed his mind and he frowned.

"Anastasia...are you okay? You called me at this hour? I mean it's fine with me but is there something wrong? Did something happen? You are good..... right? Why are you quiet? Speak something. You are raising my anxiety... Anna please..."

He was constantly jabbering without thinking. He stopped when he heard her giggle through the phone. It felt like music to his ears which instantly calmed his nerves.

"How can I speak when you didn't give me a chance to answer your long list of questions?" She chuckled again. "Let me answer you and ease your anxiety first. I am okay..... fine and good. In fact absolutely perfect. Nothing has happened and everything is good. It's just that I wanted to talk about something." She replied and bit her bottom lip as she didn't know how to continue. She called him in a daze and was about to cut the call after realizing about it but then he picked the call. She was worried that what he might think about her calling him like this without any reason. She was baffled at her own actions. But after hearing him, she felt relieved and even happy as instead of judging her actions he was still worried about her like in the morning. She didn't know it would be so easy to talk with him.

He laughed heartily after hearing her and answered, "Yeah! My bad! You are right. So tell me what you wanted to talk about?"

She actually wanted to discuss this matter with him after knowing from Richard but never knew that it would happen this way. Now that he picked up the phone and was asking about it, she decided to speak her mind without any hesitation.

"Ummm..... Dad told me about your meeting with him today and also about how you agreed to work with us at our place. Regan I would not beat around the bush. I...I just wanted to tell you that if you have some second thoughts regarding your decision.....feel free to change your mind."

When he didn't speak anything, she continued further, "Dad has been quite worried for me due to my health and some other issues. I know it doesn't matter to you..... but you know how parents can be sometimes! He.....he just.....All I want to say is you can work from anywhere you like. I won't mind as long as we are working together amicably on this project." She said everything and felt as if a burden was lifted from her shoulders.

"Is that it?"

"Hummm....."

"I appreciate your concern Anastasia. But trust me when I say that it would be my pleasure working with you being around me. I mean we are going to work for the same thing so why not together? And yes, Richard was worried about you that is why he proposed this idea but he never forced me into anything. He had my consent."

"Oh!" She didn't know what to say further after hearing his thoughts. Silence engulfed them for some seconds when she spoke again, "Great then..... Welcome to Watson Corporation Regan. I'll make sure you get the best of our services of your liking as I know you don't compromise with anything when it comes to work."

"Thank you Anastasia... I am looking forward to start on our project from tomorrow. I am sure we'll make a great team."

"Yep..... We will. Okay then.....good night Regan. See you tomorrow at office."

"Night Anastasia." He disconnected the call with a heavy heart not minding to continue the call for long if possible. However, he felt euphoric at the mere thought of seeing her again the next day. All the gloominess around him faded after talking with her.

'I don't know about the future Anna but if talking to you for a few minutes can flip my mood in this way and can fill my heart with this amount of happiness..... I would happily give my life to spend some time with you, and you are correct. I never compromise... neither with my work nor happiness.....and it's with you. I would have not left the opportunity for anything to be with you. I know I am in no place to speak my heart to you but atleast I want to assure myself that leaving you behind for your happiness wouldn't be wrong. I want to assure that you are with the right person. I won't mind if my heart breaks into pieces seeing you with your special someone but I know that it would shatter seeing you hurt. And I willingly choose the former for your happiness and my peace.' He contemplated and sighed and got back to his work still thinking about her.
