Unforeseen Death

They both dropped on the next roof over. The sun shone brilliantly behind their backs. His blood that poured out of his leg, glinted in the sunlight.

Donna gasped. "Oh god! Your leg!" She unzipped her coat and rummaged through her bag while Fein grunted in agony.

She pulled out a piece of cloth and tied it around his leg to stop his bleeding.

It stung Fein. He could feel the roughness of the cloth rubbing against his wound. It was probably a towel that she tied.

Shit! That hurts!!

He groaned inaudibly.

"Can you walk?"

"You.. should leave me… behind."

"Don't worry." The lady stood up. "I'm not leaving anyone behind. I'll support you. So get up." She radiated a bright ambiance, extending her hand to support Fein.

Fein accepted her hand and allowed himself to rely on her.

Though it is a very little difference, I still changed the outcome of my vision.

Wrapping Fein's arm around her shoulder, they realized that the building they hopped onto was once a restaurant as they descended down. They planned to use the back exit and leave the town entirely from that narrow road. However, for their terrible twist of fate, the lowest level was packed with undeads.

"Shit!"

Donna unintentionally uttered the profanity.

Fein pulled back his arm and leaned against the wall.

"Now that we've come to this.."

"We've no choice but to slash through them."

"Yea.. what?" That's not Fein intended to say, Donna surprised him.

She wiped her dagger with a cloth and marched into the pack of undeads. Persistently she fought with them, swinging her dagger under the bright sunlight. Her style wasn't very professional, something you learnt in a hurry style, but all of her moves were filled with determination and hope.

Just because the woman was almost single handedly battling them, didn't mean Fein was unattacked.

A few undeads approached him as well. He pressed the trigger of his handgun and realized he didn't have anymore bullets. He quickly dragged his injured leg and headed to the kitchen. There he should find a kitchen knife at least.

Their speeds matched as Fein was injured and the undeads weren't really fast to begin with.

Still a few sped up and closed their distance. Fein grabbed the frying pan and struck its head. He noticed a few entering the kitchen and spinned it at them. He finally found a sharp knife and decided to enter the battle when he came across a microwave.

The bulb on his head popped up again. He crippled to the stove and twisted the key. Apparently it still had a gas line. He left the stove as is (without fire) and trudged to the microwave. He plugged in the wire and put it on for 5 minutes of heat without putting anything inside.

He hastily limpered outside the kitchen, given they had only five minutes before the building blew up.

"Ms Donna!" He yelled! "We have only three minutes! GET OUT NOW!"

She understood his message and immediately dashed through the undeads. She grasped Fein and plunged off the window together with him.

They were safely outside the restaurant. Only a minute left. Now all they had to do was get further away from it to avoid any injury.

Donna pulled up Fein and they began to walk together. In a split second, the red skinned beast that they thought wouldn't attack them anymore, came out if the blue and pulled Donna back inside.

10 seconds before the explosion, Donna was pulled backwards.

7 seconds before the explosion, Fein outstretched his hand to catch her.

5 seconds before the explosion, they were split apart.

2 seconds before the explosion, Donna's scream pierced through the sky.

The building exploded, sending Fein flying backwards and hitting his back against a wall.

The first two levels of the restaurant had completely caught on fire. His eyes reflected the orange shade of flame, ending with the red hue, crackling sound for the burning fire echoed in his ears. Smoke, billowing out from the building, made the air heavier. Heat oozing out sizzled his epidermis.

The brilliance of the sunlight got curtained behind the grey smoke.

Fein remained collapsed there, regardless of his pain and breathing difficulty, he didn't move from there.

Ms Donna is still in there.

He could think nothing at all abd his mind had entered a state of blankness.

Nobody was there to put down the fire, so the sudden rainfall did the job itself.

Fein witnessed them all with his lifeless eyes. He didn't know if the cause of her sudden death was thr beast or.... himself. His memories of conversation with her, her warm treatment, the affection he received, all of it played on repeat before his surprise filled gazes. After a few hours when the fire reduced Fein limpered inside in search of her body.

He dragged his legs over a pile of dead bodies, woods, chairs, tables and what not. He wouldn't even look down what fell underneath his toes. Until he stumbled upon a familiar dagger.

It belonged to her!

He looked over his shoulder and shuddered upon realizing that the crisped body he walked over just now belonged to her!

Donna was lying just behind him, with her charcoaled skin, disfigured face and half eaten body.

His pupils shrunk.

The beast must've had a feast on her while it rained. The fire wasn't even enough for it to die. Just how much horrendous can this world get!

Now i realize. The nightmare i had last night was of this moment. I knew... And i still couldn't do anything. I was too full of myself that i failed to realize how much pathetic i am!

He covered his eyes and raised his head towards the clouds. "Ahhhh fuuuuuck!"

I'm not capable of protecting anyone… despite my abilities and those bullshits! I couldn't save her! How am i supposed to protect Rene once i find her?!

He did not give her a second glance and revolved his steps. He spoke a few words as a message to her son.

"The mother that you complained of.. is now dead. Now you'll know the life of solitude."

He walked alone on the streets in disregard of the potential dangers. Lots of thoughts swirled in his mind. Lots of conflicts, denial, contemplation and regrets filled his brain. Everything ended with only one question… What should i do next?

The knife swayed to and fro in his hand. His footsteps resonated with the drizzles. Due to rain, the fog had reduced but didn't entirely disappear.

There was no exact reason found behind the fog. It was always there like it should. He dragged his injured leg through it although.

I couldn't prevent the nightmare from turning into reality. But thinking about it any longer won't help me. I will never forget her. Not my own failure and excess dependence that killed her. I'll have to remember it all and move forward, no matter how much painful it gets. There's another vision that hasn't occurred yet. Judging the surroundings that i saw, i believe i was captured by…

Suddenly he was ambushed from behind and captured. His head was entangled in a knot of arms and someone tied his eyes with clothes. The muddy scent from their clothes ascertained Fein that they had been hiding somewhere in the rain, waiting to ambush him. They were living humans. Fein didn't struggle at all, accepting as it was his fate.

Aaahhahh~.

He left out a short breath of dismay.

It begins now.
