Dead End

It was an empty road amid the ruins. Roads devoid of any other presence, apartments were empty. The trudging sound of the shoes resonated with the cackling of the wind. It highlighted the storm of silence hooting near the ears.

These absurd obnoxious feelings alerted all his senses, making him turn over and continue walking in every interval. A pile of rubbles rolled over to his feet. He evaded being crushed underneath and took several steps back. The polythene bag in his hand swayed and rustled continuously.

He heaved in and out heavily, glancing from the corner of his eyes in terror.

Just as instantly, a rotting body plunged on top of him and feasted on his flesh.

His body flinched. "I should avoid that road today." Shaking his head from left to right, he put some food in the polythene bag from the grocery store.

Fein Rasmond, one morning he found himself sleeping in his classroom all by his lonesomeness. The last thing that he remembered was that he went to his house, heard some arguments between his parents and left for his part time job. And the next thing he found himself in his classroom. Perplexed, he decided to explore that misty evening and discovered….

The world's clock has already hit its dead end!

Upon learning the fact, the first person that popped up in his mind was his only twin older sister. They used to study in the same school but she wasn't there. The only thing that remained of her was the golden heart locket broken in half that hung in a chain around his neck. He became anxious about what might've happened to her. He decided to leave his deserted school yard and search for his family. But…

When he arrived at his home, it was completely shattered. His room on the second floor was lying on the soil in several pieces. He glanced over the ruins and failed to find anything that he owned. He worried not too much about his belongings, accepting that those might've already crumbled into dust, he searched for anything that he found familiar. Only one room remained intact despite the whole destruction, where he found his father's clothes in a suitcase. He changed into his father's huge t-shirt and shoved away his school uniform. Unsure of what to do, he spent the night underneath the broken roof of that room, fiddling with that half hearted locket. That night he dreamt a weird dream. The one in which words were incoherent but images were vivid. He could see his sister crying.

She apologized.

Apologized for some incoherable reasons.

"Nothing would've happened if only… if only…"

What was that dream, he wondered as he sprung up and sat. He gasped for some air. The inside of his home already smelt like soil. But now there was another strange smell accompanied with it. And it was a disgusting stink of rotting flesh beside him. He immediately leaped on his feet.

That thing that looked like a rotting human.. an undead, caught notice of Fein. Puffing his chest and deflating continuously out of fear. He stood still near the cracked wall and attempted to figure out how to tackle that thing. The more time passed the less his heart raced. He began to think calmly and rationally. Even the thing didn't seem to attack him.

An image flashed before his eyes out of the blue. It was of himself being surrounded by those rotting humans.

Though confused, he understood that it wasn't the time to keep pondering. He had to run from there in order to survive.

With that decided he began to run.

His sudden movements aggravated those undeads. They started to follow after him.

However, those things were slower than an average human.

Maybe a little faster than a turtle. So it couldn't catch up to Fein.

Although, due to the miraculous twist of fate, instead of himself some other, proper living human fell victim to those undeads. Fein peeked from behind the car and witnessed the horrible consequence of the victim being torn from flesh to flesh.

He wanted to retch but he couldn't.

The undeads will find me!

He clenched his mouth and rushed to the nearby grocery store. Like he thought, no one was there either.

He sat leaning against the counter desk and pondered.

Its been two days since I've started to explore. The world seems to have been thrown into chaos. I wonder if it is the doomsday or the days before that. The whereabouts of my family is unknown. I don't even have my cellphone with me. Whether they are dead or alive, I don't know. There are people almost next to none here currently except me. Did they already evacuate, given the circumstances?

Well. That's the jist of the situation. Regarding myself…

Fein rubbed his own head. The chained locket around his neck jiggled a little.

I keep getting visions. Little or major those visions apparently show up in reality. With the very little information that i have, i can safely say that it must be some sort of premonition. And it seems I can avoid dangers due to that whatsoever. Then that dream… what was it?

Whilst in his evaluation of thoughts, his stomach cried out for some food. He raised his chin and scanned around with his eyes.

"It should be okay if i munched on some food here. No one is here anyway."

He stood back on his feet and trudged closer to the shelves.

The shelves looked looted. Only the packets that seemed expired remained back. It ascertained him that it had been quite a while since the disaster struck.

He picked up the first deflated packet he found and feasted on them. It was hard to chew on but he didn't have the luxury to complain.

In the middle of his meal he wondered if his sister was hungry. What if she was?

"Maybe I should save some for Rene as well."

He decided to save some snacks for her in case he managed to find her. He put them inside the polythene bag when another series of images flashed before his eyes.

This time it was his own death. His body quivered as if he felt them tearing his limbs apart. Pack of heat released and sweat rolled from his head. That imaginary sensation tingled his muscles. It might've been his survival instinct, telling him to avoid the danger.

He chose the alternate path with the bag in his hand. Where should he go, he didn't know. Aimlessly he walked around the streets avoiding those man eating creatures.

"It would be better if i found someone who knows where people evacuated to."

He walked in circles whilst figuring out what to do. His senses heightened with the roar of those undead creatures from afar. From his two days trip in this world, he knew enough that the undeads wouldn't roar unless they found their meatbag. He glanced over his shoulder and murmured to himself.

"Someone must be in trouble." He walked his own way nonetheless before the sudden truck of realization hit him. "What if it's Rene!"

Fein instantly dashed to the swamp where he found a person rebelling relentlessly against the hoard of undeads. His clothing suggested to Fein that he came prepared. Thick black coat that is usually hard for their teeth to pierce into his skin. 16 inches long dagger in his hand. The weather was unnaturally misty, so it might not have been too hot into his thick layer of clothes.

That person aside, Fein thought, this place was where I foresaw my death. That guy is holding well against the undeads. If it had been me, I'd have been long gone by now.

As Fein spectated from afar, an enormous shadow darkened upon him. He raised his chin and tried to find the owner of the shadow. To his surprise…

It was something unimaginable!

The huge body of the dragon reflected on his blood red pupils in his widened eyelids.

Not only undeads… there are also dragons!! Just what is happening here!

His trembling eyes followed the dragon flying towards the brave man fighting the undeads.

Without putting in too much thought, he sprinted, leaving his bag of snacks behind, at the man.

"MOVE AWAY!" He screamed.

Distracted by his warning, the man halted in the middle of his brawl and looked at Fein running towards.

"DON'T COME HERE!" Said he before he noticed the flying dragon in the sky.

Fein plunged on him, rolling themselves afar from the critical spot of the undeads and an enormous dragon.

The dragon dived lower and picked up the pack of undeads in its mouth after which it flew away, ignoring two fresh lively meat.

"Are you alright?!" Fein asked him.

"Yeah." Said the man with his hoarse voice. "Thanks buddy. Are you okay?" The dagger in his hand rubbed against the black pitch of the road.

"Yeah."

"Thanks to the dragon, the undeads aren't here anymore." He stood up and hung his hands on his hips. "What were you doing here? Why didn't you evacuate with others?"

"About that…" Fein shifted his head and glanced away. "If i told you that I might've suddenly been thrown into this world…" he glanced up at him. "Would you believe me?"
