Darkness in their Future

It might've been a mistake, but a useful one.

Because the mistake was a simulation created in his mind attaching his foresights together.

Fein discovered another weak point of the beast.

As he had turned around to confront the beast, the dagger in his hand twirled. His foresight remained activated, creating countless simulations in his head.

Fein marched towards the 2nd beast rushing at him.

Matching its speed was yet a task too big for Fein, hence he marched from its point blank range.

After overcoming the pains to process all of his foresights, its almost like Fein's ability had levelled up.

Now he could assess the miniature movements done in seconds and how to evade them for his continuous visions.

He, as if became a fly that people struggle so much to catch.

The beast similarly had to struggle to land an attack on Fein. He slipped out from its clutches everytime an attack was landed.

Fein swirled around its body, confusing the beast.

Actually he searched for Yulia's position since the scope of her rifle glinted on his face. He knew that Yulia had taken to the field and she was closeby.

Noises from the rifles and guns had reduced, sounds of blades clanking increased. Amid, Fein shouted,

"YULIA! GO FOR ITS HEART!"

Astonished, Yulia remained frozen for a second. If she shot at its heart from her position, it could hit Fein as well.

"Just what are you thinking, Fein?!" Nonetheless, she inserted a bullet and fixed the target at its heart. She waited for the right moment to shoot.

The beast was in a dilemma. It was the first time it faced a person whom it just couldn't get a grasp of. Fein kept slipping from its hand. But he also couldn't land any attack on it. It sprung up to create a distance again.

Fein, who was pressing his blade against its spiky arms, took a few steps ahead to regain his balance.

The beast planned for an ambush. Though it didn't know who it was up against.

It leapt to Fein's blank range, in other words, at his back, and quickly extended its claw. It thought it'd be quicker to crush his skull than he could even turn around.

To its surprise, Fein didn't even bother to turn around. He just plunged the dagger under the space of his arm, into its abdomen. Simultaneously the bullet shot by Yulia entered into its body and penetrated the heart.

Watching the two attacks done at the same time from the corner of his eyes, made Fein grin. It was lethal damage done to the beast.

The beast, out of misery and torment, grabbed its own head and growled. Fein sprung far away, knowing something was up with it.

That enormous growl left by the second beast diverted the attention of the people defending against the first beast.

Their blades collided with its arms, slashed its skin, sliced even its nail off, but nothing was helpful.

A lot of sacrifices were made. The commander stopped the count of his dead comrades. It was just too much for him.

And now, he was about to witness another carnage.

Suddenly something rose from the sea, making a splashing noise of water, creating large waves as its trail.

It wasn't a hope to their eyes, but despair.

The 3rd beast didn't suffocate to death and survived.

Ran's death became meaningless in the end.

It was around evening. The sun started to set spectacularly under the ocean. The sea glistened with its orangish red hue. The clouds were painted yellow and pink. A battle that didn't only last for 4 hours but 7. The vessel Von2402 successfully departed. All the support left before the frontliners could escape. They were stranded in the dockyard with starving beasts. And no rescue was there.

They were left there as food.

Yulia, who was taken aback by the death of a beast, chuckled. She was struggling with a storm of emotions inside her.

She realized that the people on field wouldn't be able to leave the dockyard alive. But was delighted that they finally rescued a vessel with almost 70000 people in it.

However… what made her the most astounded was that..

They had just killed a beast!

The beast that she together with Fein attacked, burst like a balloon of blood and dropped. Its limbs came apart symbolizing its horrible death as a punishment for consuming so many human beings.

That event only was a light of hope in their darkness. But she lost sight of Fein, whose body appeared as a silhouette in the evening bathed by the rays of the setting sun. His feet hidden under a thin blanket of mist. The noise of distant squealing and clanks ran into his ears. He knew there was a fight still ongoing on the other end of the dockyard.

Let him catch his breath first!

He heaved heavily, chest puffed up and then deflated in rhythm. Face darkened, tainted with blood splatters. His eyes looked down at the disassembled body of the beast, then averted at Kuina who laid unconscious a bit far from it.

He tried to move his feet, but it wouldn't move.

It was the first time in a while he was involved in such intense movement for a long time. Not only his body, his mind demanded some rest.

"I can't… No more.." he murmured from his sore throat.

He collapsed at his spot, unable to move even an inch.

A shadowy figure, in turns glanced at Fein from inside a cargo container then hid again.

With no one and nothing to save them, meanwhile, the field unit was in the face of two beasts. In those circumstances, they could think of nothing, only darkness in their future.

Suddenly a voice rang through their ear comms.

It was the voice of their very own supervisor aka main commander, Yulia.

"Everyone board the ship!"

"Ship?!"

They wondered.

"Everyone! Retreat and board the ship this instant!" Hailed Ludic Boseman. He entered the dockyard to rescue the men left behind.

But how do they escape from the jaws of the beasts?

The additional DOR members that were brought along dropped smoke grenades near the beasts. The rest recalled their drill and quickly rushed away before the smoke could spread to themselves.

Some rushed out of the ship to bring the injured back inside, some looked for any survivors left behind. The rest, under the command of Ludic, rained bullets at the beasts until all the survivors had boarded.

With the united effort of 110 DOR members, two newly recruited Beast Slayers and the supervisor, the rescue of Von2402 was made possible. Out of the initial 70 members taken, statistics of survivors were 37 members in total. Statistics of dead were 33 members including 1 beast slayer, 18 on field unit, 15 from the support unit.

It was the result of all the blood shed. Those brave members won't ever be forgotten.
