A crucial Mistake

Mouth disclosed widely, it shadowed his blood stained face but an even larger shadow ruled above their heads. It floated towards the light house, grumbling with fury.

Though sitting at death's jaw himself, Fein snickered, understanding what might have prompted the dragon to attack Yulia.

Kuina, in her aggressive attempt to protect Fein, got herself heavily injured. The beast dropped itself on her, flattening her with the concrete soil.

Now she laid on the ground unconscious.

Fein did not do anything to protect her, given he was momentarily paralyzed. But even if he had the chance he might not jump in to rescue her.

As per his view, Kuina insisted to protect me on her own volition, i didn't ask her to. So she should hold the responsibility of her own actions.

Sounds selfish, doesn't it? However logically nobody could refute the view.

Observing the beast turn to him, Fein quickly clenched Alaister ll, the obsidian dagger and leapt afar.

He rushed while his brain flooded with a whirlpool of thoughts and ideas. He assessed the most efficient ways of attacking it. His desperation provoked his unique trait of foresights.

This time it was painless, or rather his physical pain was much greater than the pressure on his brain. His visions unclouded, images luminous. His thought process increased, enabling him to simulate 30 images per second.

Suddenly he broke his rush, his right foot slid on the concrete surface before slowing down while his left foot stepped back.

He turned around, his golden locket slid out of his clothes and shone under the faint sunlight.

Fein discovered ways to counterfeit the beast.

Meanwhile, Yulia quickly rushed down the stairs because she knew the dragon was about to collide with the light house anytime. She abandoned her rifle and proceeded to evacuate as quickly as possible. But before she could leave the house, the dragon dived into it. It crashed into the apex of the house. The building started to shake vigorously, making it harder for Yulia to escape.

But she wasn't a red belt DOR member for nothing.

It was within her training what to do at times like this. She immediately hopped to the stairs on the other side and plunged off from the open space. Her fall was cushioned thanks to trees and bushes. She successfully evaded her death. Now all she had to do was wait and witness…

The BOOM!

The lighthouse exploded due to the amount of gunpowder supply kept inside. Due to friction of the dragon body with the gunpowder it caused the outbreak of fire and eventually an explosion.

After a while she immediately rushed to her next spot. Her work wasn't yet finished.

On the other hand, the long ranged field unit was running out of their ammos. Within such unfortunate times, they received the news..

"Our ammo supply has exploded!"

It had become impossible to resist against the beast any longer.

The beast played defensive all these times, it was time for it to get offensive.

The field unit, those whose refiles couldn't be reloaded anymore, dropped on their knees and only uttered their last prayer.

Heavy burdens in their hearts, grievance over their loved ones, remembrance of their good days, they embraced their death.

"This still ain't the end! There must be other ways to counter the beast!"

With the rebuke all their morales were raised. Even though it was the end, they decided to keep on resisting… at the cost of their own lives. This time, uncovering their blades, they rushed into the field.

It was their last resort.. to attack altogether.

Regardless, it was a feast for the beast. It did not need to do the toil and rush to its food, the food came running themselves.

Ecstated, the beast laughed a vile laughter. Its upper body, from the diaphragm, bent forward. Claws outstretched and extended wide. Its intention was clear.. to kill all the humans in a single swipe.

Fein, whereas, raised his dagger to the sky, thrusted it downward diagonally along the chest of the beast.

Since the dagger was capable of slashing through its skin, Fein landed another injury on it. He discovered the time required for the beast to regenerate.

35 seconds to close wounds.

Previously it required almost 3 minutes and 22 seconds to grow back its hands.

That means the time required for regeneration varies upon the injury.

But.. there's this one injury that hasn't healed on its body. Its left eye, where Kuina created a hole inside with her bullet.

It made his lips curl up into a smirk.

....

Weak points, those exist in it.

The beast swung its claw at Fein's neck. He quickly bent his knees to evade its attack and proceeded to slash through its feet.

To dodge, the beast 2nd sprung up. Creating a fine distance between them, it almost immediately appeared near Fein. That overwhelming speed startled him.

The beast has become faster!

He could observe its long sharp thorn like claws directed at him.

Before the claws could reach his head, he horizontally held his dagger, pushed it through the air and pierced it into the beast's abdomen.

The tip of the dagger peeked out on the beast's back. It was without a doubt a fatal injury caused to the beast.

Fein pulled out the dagger, along with which, a pool of blood flowed out from its body. He waited to see whether the wound would close itself. The results brought a smile on his lips.

I was right. This wound won't close up!

However beasts, like mentioned several times until now, aren't as easy to kill. If it was as simple there wouldn't have been only five Beast Slayers.

Likewise Ran, Fein was so close to killing it. But, the beast 2nd that remained immobile for a while, abruptly grabbed his head.

Its claws covered Fein's whole skull into its palm.

Fein's eyes widened, as if he had just fallen from the sky. His body released heat and he could feel his cold sweat rolling.

It was just a second before Fein realized it was a mistake…

And his skull crushed into pieces, blood splashed like a popping balloon. His headless body, dropped on the concrete surface. Blood formed a pool under his body.

A mistake that cost him his life.

You should've listened to Yulia!!!
