Sophia's Family Background

The following morning, Sophia quickly woke up and went straight to the kitchen. She picked up the mob and started mobbing everywhere. She did that because her mother does not condone dirtiness.

Mrs. Bernard woke up and was impressed with the way her daughter cleaned the house. She found her daughter in the kitchen preparing a jolt of rice. She perceived the aroma and said kudos to her daughter.She joined her daughter in the kitchen and remembered what her kitchen used to look like when she was still young and married to Sophia's father. Then she began to narrate.

Previously, we were wealthy. We had two companies, one producing fruit wine, which had about 200 employees, and the other a table water factory, which had fifty employees. He was also involved in the import and export business. He inherited these companies from his late father.

Things went well until Mr. Bernard partnered with Chief Raymond. They were running the business together.

Mr. Bernard trusted Chief Raymond so much that he allowed him to control the activities of the company because he was making more profit in the export business he was doing at that time. His wife, Mrs. Bernard, was the one monitoring that table water company. At that time, she was pregnant and couldn't move up and down as she was.

At first, everything was going well until Chief Raymond connived with the accountant and the manager. Chief Raymond used the company as collateral to collect loans from the government. He collected a huge amount of money and traveled out of the country. The company manager and the accountant were aware of this.

Immediately after Chief Raymond traveled out of the country, the company manager and the accountant also disappeared.

Mr. Bernard had just received a call from the company secretary that they couldn't get to the manager and accountant, and when they called Chief Raymond, his number was not working.

Mr. Bernard was devastated and didn't know what to do. He told his wife, and they quickly rushed to the company.

And he discovered that Chief Raymond had done more harm than good. He began to call Chief Raymond, but the call was dropping. Not long after Mr. Raymond saw all the documents,

"What!?"He screamed and fainted. He was rushed to the hospital, and after some minutes, he woke up. Meanwhile, as he screamed, the secretary was there. She also saw the document and what the document entailed. She quickly hid it before Mrs. Bernard could get there. She did that because Mrs. Bernard was heavily pregnant at that time and it could lead to a lot of problems.

Mr. Bernard could not but stay on the hospital bed for days. The doctor advised him to take things easy and should not disclose them now to his wife due to her condition. So Mr. Bernard concealed the information to himself.

When the bank knew that Chief Raymond did not show up to pay his loan, they took ownership of the company, and the first company was gone.

Not long after that, Mrs. Bernard gave birth to Sophia. After two months, the family had the baby, and their table water company got burnt. The whole family was disarrayed. Mr. Bernard could not get enough money to continue his business. They could not afford to pay their children's school fees, so they withdrew them from school and put them in a government school where they could afford it.

When Sophia was two years old, Mrs. Bernard learned to sew. And the father was working as a secretary somewhere. That was how they became low class.

Before Mrs. Bernard could finish the story, Sophia was already crying.

"You mean you went through all these?" She said, trying to wipe away her tears.

Mrs. Bernard hugged her daughter and convinced her that everything that happened, God knew about it. And God will still take them to a higher place.

Mrs. Bernard tried to start another conversation that would make her daughter happy.

Mrs. Bernard said, rolling her eyes. "Tell me about the CEO. I know you are already in love with him and I believed that he too loved you. He was the one that called you ten times yesterday, right."

Sophia could not but smile and wonder how her mother knew that it was Wilson that had called her.

"Mum, we are not even friends yet, and you are talking about love," she said, raising her eyebrow.

Her mother defended herself by saying, "And so, I've seen it from the way you talked about him that you have a thing for him."

"Hmm, you are right mum, but I'm scared. I don't want the same thing to happen again," she said calmly.

Mrs. Bernard rubbed her back and advised her not to use her past to judge others.

Sophia checked the time; it was already 12 o'clock. Sophia told her mother to follow her to the shop so that they could chat more and she was also enjoying her company.

They quickly ate, dressed up, and went shopping. Everybody that saw them on the road quickly recognized Sophia's mum because Sophia was a carbon copy of her mother.

Sophia got to shop with her mother and saw the flowers neatly placed at one corner of the shop. Mrs. Bernard smiled as she picked up the flowers, because she could open the card that was placed on it. Sophia snatched it and ran out. She checked the content of the card but couldn't see any names. Her mother smiled and said she already knew who brought the flowers.

"How could you be sure, mum? When this wicked Joe kept coming with his sugar-coated mouth, "she said depressingly.

"Seriously? How did he know about your shop? What did he want again? " She said

They opened the shop, and Sophia started sewing. Her mother was also assisting her.

A few hours later, a tall, black-haired man appeared. He didn't notice that it was Mrs. Bernard sewing. He began his sweet talk. He narrated how the other girlfriend he had cheated on him, and the worst part was that he noticed after a year of their marriage that the child was not his own.

And when she discovered he was aware of it, she ran away with the child. As he was talking, Mrs. Bernard played along, and Sophia could not say anything. It came to a time when he began to cry. He said that his wife ran off with a huge amount of money which she withdrew from his account.

Mrs. Bernard coughed. Joe raised his head and looked in the cough's direction.

What!

His jaw dropped. He tried to speak, but the word wouldn't come out. Feeling ashamed, he dashed out of the shop, banging on the door.

He was too ashamed to face her. He just ran out of the shop.
