Episode 13

"Initial report and witness statement have been collected, we will be taking the suspect to the police station for questioning"one of the policemen announced to Ama while the other motioned for Deji to follow them.

"I didn't do it" Deji repeated when he and both policemen had stepped out, "are you saying your wife is lying?" One of the policemen asked, "she is" Deji shouted looking at both of them like they were dumb, "I didn't do it" he repeated. "I think you should get a swab stick from the car and see if you can spot any saliva on the bite marks to take a swab sample, if he's lucky and there is, we can perform a DNA test on the saliva which will reveal if he was truly responsible for the assault" the other policeman said,

"I agree with him" Deji responded, "please do that before she starts to clear any evidence" he begged. The second jogged ahead of them to retrieve the swab stick from the car while the other escorted Deji to their car.

DNA profiling is a procedure that can be used to identify individuals on the basis of their unique genetic makeup. The process can be useful in accurately solving crimes. Forensic scientists can compare DNA from samples found at a crime scene to DNA samples taken from suspects. If there is no match, they may be able to rule out that suspect. If there is a match, police will likely investigate further.

In a few minutes, he returned with the swab sample which they arranged to be sent to the lab immediately.

Eventually, after thorough questioning and further investigation alongside the DNA profiling test, it was discovered that the bitemarks were self-inflicted and Ama had lied just to frame Deji. Deji was released and insisted that he would not press any charges against Ama, the police however charged her with filing a false police report.

Betrayed and Disappointed were not enough to quantify how Deji felt, he made up his mind that he was going home to pack his bags and leave as his home was becoming too toxic. He didn't know what the future held for his marriage and he hadn't made any concrete decisions yet. All he knew was that he needed to leave the toxic environment and breathe, he needed to reflect on his life and recent decisions and decide how to move forward.

When he returned home, he used his lock code to unlock the door and let himself in, the kids had gone to bed, Ama was up watching TV. "You're back so soon?" She asked, looking surprised to see him, Deji ignored her and went straight to their room to start packing his bags. She followed him closely, watching what he was doing, "where do you think you're going?" She asked, Deji ignored her and continued packing, "ok now you're just going to act like you're deaf huh?" She continued looking scornfully at him as he zipped up his travel bag and slung it over his shoulder walking past her, "I'm talking to you" Ama said pulling him back, "if you touch me again, I'll call the police" Deji threatened, pulling himself free and heading for the door. "If you leave this place now, Make sure you say your last goodbye, because I'm never going to let you come back here" Ama shouted "I'll be back to get my kids" Deji said slamming the door shut behind him.

As he stepped out, he picked his phone from his pocket and dialled Charles. "Guy how far? There is fire on the mountain " he began when Charles picked, "why? What's up? Is everything ok?" Charles asked, "everything is not ok" Deji replied as he began narrating his ordeal over the last 24 hours, "you're joking!" Charles exclaimed when he was done narrating his experience, "but what must have gotten into her? It sounds unlike her" Charles questioned, "I don't know mehn, she's just been acting like a psycho since we got to this country" Deji replied, "Anyway, that's by the way, I need a huge favour" Deji continued,

"I'm listening" Charles replied, "I need a place to stay for a while, I packed my things out of the house and I don't have any money for a hotel" Deji began, "hmm!" Charles exclaimed, "you know how things are bro, I would have really loved to accommodate you but my madam will never allow it" he continued, "and if I don't want to get kicked out, I better not propose this your request to her" he said, "if you ask me, I'd say you should swallow some humble pie and go beg your wife, just take anything she brings your way till you're able to stand on your feet" Charles advised, "I can't go back" Deji replied, "If I have to spend one more night with that woman, I will lose my mind" he added.

"If I bring you in, I will lose my accommodation, I'm sorry bro" Charles said. Seeing that he had no hope, Deji said goodbye and hung up the phone.

He sank to the ground with his travel bag, sitting on the floor with his face in his palm, looking very much like a homeless man which he pretty much was at that point.

Few minutes later a pizza delivery man rang the bell on the door a few steps away and dropped pizza at the doorstep. Shortly after, the door opened and someone stepped out to pick the pizza up, it was Jordanna.

She immediately recognized Deji sitting on the floor.

"Are you ok?" She asked, walking towards him, Deji looked up, recognizing her immediately, "not quite" he replied, "how do you mean?" She asked squatting to listen to him as he narrated his painful ordeal.

"I'm sorry to hear this" Jordanna began after hearing his story, "If you don't mind, you can stay at my place till you're able to find a place to stay, I have an empty guest room" she said to a visibly relieved Deji.

"I can't thank you enough for this kind gesture" Deji replied with his face lighting up, "I promise to leave as soon as possible." he added as Jordanna helped him up, ushering him into her apartment. "You're welcome to stay for as long as you need to" she said, shutting the door behind them.
