It was another regular day at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police station. Gail is a successful police detective who transferred to the Tokyo Police station.
"Ohaiyou gozaimasu!" meaning good morning in Japanese. Gail and several other police works in pairs solving different crimes and sometimes mysterious suicides as well.
"Gail, from today now on, you will be working with Emi and Riku." The manager recommended Gail to work with them since they work on advanced cases.
"My name is Gail, nice to meet you." Emi and Riku shook her hand and introduced themselves.
"Gail, welcome to our team." Riku said.
"As you heard on the news, these past few months, numerous bodies were found at the suicide forest. But those who died either died by hanging themselves or overdose are just common ones. This time, besides the common ones, there were many mysterious deaths. These people are all healthy with no previous mental illnesses died without hanging themselves and without poisoning themselves with drugs. Those are the deaths we need to look at. These are witness reports. People who died mysteriously often had what you called shadow nightmares. It is usually long term which will start gradually then becoming worse. Witness also reports of hearing voices which causes them to go crazy like people with schizophrenia, these are just a few." Riku mentioned. Emi added, "Besides the voices that were heard, we also had reports people sleepwalking and they ended up in the forest getting lost. Some of them reported of being followed which caused them to have fear and dread. Those that were affected have extreme fear and hallucinations and they ended up dead because of the shock." Emi also added, "What we do here is to investigate and to see what caused those people to be like that." Riku also added, "We are not the only one working on these cases. You see those people in the office behind you? Those people are the top police investigators and detectives who will be working on these cases with us. Emi, you, and me will work on these cases and report what we find to those people. And they will report to government official when it's needed." Gail nodded as she took in all of the information. "I know what we do need solid evidence but out of curiousity...do you think it's caused by something supernatural?" Gail asked. Emi and Riku looked at each other and said, "We also believe something like this could be supernatural. But we don't know what type of supernatural being caused it. Demons or whatever are on our list. But we are not allow to say it's them. We need evidence." Emi took out an article and gave it to Gail, "This case started long time ago, it's a foreign businessman who hunged himself because of depression. What was discovered by previous investigators was that he also experienced something similar. He was a healthy man but due to financial struggles, he killed himself. Before he killed himself, one lady reports him having hallucinations and constantly being scared of something. One man reports him sleep walking because he was seen not wearing his shoes, his eyes were still closed. It was in the middle of the night, the man who reported closed down the shop late one night. But when they found his body, they believed he hunged himself. One of our leader who investigated that case say that the man did not have rope marks around his neck, simply saying... he believed he did not commit suicide but he died of shock from heart attack based on autopsy. The shock based on what we know could be hallucination of some sort." Emi told Gail everything she knew about the case.
"Do you know if this foreign businessman have any family members?" Gail asked.
"Yes. He had a wife and two children. They live in a different country now from what i heard." Riku said.
"Poor kids." Gail sighed. "I hope they are doing well now."
Emi said, "From what I overheard from the top, the investigator who worked on this case knew the family personally. You will find more information if you asked him." Gail thanked Emi and said, "Is there anything else to do right now?" Riku checked the schedule, "You have a half day today. Come in tomorrow so we can work on the case together." Gail thanked them as she went outside.
One of the investigator stopped Gail, "Are you Officer Gail?" Gail nodded.
"I would like to speak to you about something. Can you follow me?" Gail wondered what it was.
"Why do you want to see me?" Gail asked.
"This is Mrs. Rose from the adoption services. This is Officer Gail. Mrs. Rose would like to speak to you. I'll leave you two to talk, okay? If you need anything, you can find me outside." Mrs. Rose nodded.
"Miss. Gail, the reason why I want to talk to you is because your previous adoptive family wants to meet you. Do you remember your younger sister, Sophia? You were about 12 when you went abroad to study over here because another family brought you in. Your previous adoptive father spoke with me saying that your younger sister really wants to see you. She is getting married in a few days." Mrs. Rose waited for Gail to respond.
"Can I think about it? Do you have their contact information?" Mrs. Rose agreed and said, "Let me know so I can connect you two." Gail thanked her and said goodbye politely.
After Gail gets home, she laid on her bed and thought about it.
"Sophia, you grew up. I bet you are a beautiful lady now. Congratulations on getting married. I really want to see you too."
Gail took a deep breath and dialled the number.
"Mrs. Rose. I would like to meet them. Can you give me their wedding date and location?" Mrs. Rose gladly gave the information to Gail.
Gail looked through her old photo box and found a picture when she was playing with Sophia. Gail had tears in her eyes because she's been missing Sophia for a long time. As Gail cooled down, she decided to call Sophia's dad. This was another chance for Gail to reconnect with her previous adoptive family.
