Chapter 56

Dr. Phillip's heart raced while he was sitted in the hospital room. He shifted uncomfortably in the stiff chair. 

"What are you talking about?" he finally managed to say. 

Dr. Phillip's wife laughed bitterly, the sound sharp and cutting in the hospital room. Her arms wrapped tightly around her, as if trying to hold herself together.

Her eyes flashed with anger, and Dr. Phillip could see the hurt etched into every line of her face. 

"Do you think I am dumb?" she spat, her voice trembling with emotion.

"During the six years she has been here, I have been doing my own research. You didn't tell me she is the daughter of that woman, and you let her live under my roof," she paused, her breathing become more rapid. "Do you even care about me?" she yelled, her words echoing off the walls. 

Dr. Phillip's throat felt dry as he struggled to find the right words, but nothing came. He could feel his wife's anger, suffocating him.
