15: I Don't Want To Go Back

Two weeks after losing the baby, Zane and Verna were both back at home and they had finally managed to convince the former that he was not to blame for Verna getting sick.

Wendy and Travis had sat down for a serious discussion about their child’s care and she had agreed to make sure Zane was dropped off with Travis if she expected to be away for more than a day. Despite the resolution, Travis still couldn’t forgive Wendy for all that had happened. When Verna asked him why, he had told her solemnly that she wouldn’t understand until the day she saw her whole world coughing or bleeding to death.

Travis played a very big part in helping Verna get over the miscarriage. They managed to get through the days knowing that it had not been expected and they both knew she hadn’t really been given time to get attached to the idea of a baby. Of that she was somewhat grateful.
