105. Let's See What I Can Do

[A/N I apologize for the delay into todays release. I recently released Earth: Reboot for the WSA and got a contract that I was dealing with this morning. I was working on it and got a little behind on my chapters for this one. Please do not worry I will still continue to deliver on this one as well. "Okay so the two of us will head to the capitol the day after tomorrow so that tomorrow can be spent getting invitations sent out. Sound like a plan?"

"Yeah, I would like that. So, what are we going to do now?"

"Now I need to figure out what you can do so that I am prepared and make sure that you have the right equipment and training so that we are prepared when the neighbors attack."

"Okay then. Where?"

"What type of magic are you using?"

"Lightning."

"Oh, yeah that is wow. Okay so we need to be away from the lake and away from people. Did the system convert all of the spells for you?"

"Yeah it did."

"Good that means that there will be versions of higher level spells that we can find or buy."

"Oh would that be an issue?"

"Well, technically the system might and I say might have put the information in your head that you can start to convert any spell that you might like into a lightning spell. But given it is based on the stuff that I did, it is more than likely that you will have to invest a huge amount of time and gold into the alteration of spells if you want to use them."

"But that is crazy?"

"Not crazy. But it is not that big of a deal. We are talking years and years down the road before you really have to start getting into it. The biggest thing is that you can use other spells it is just that they will take more energy or do less damage depending on the spell. You know what, we do not have a lot of time before dinner tonight and I still need to see at least a few things to make sure that I am tracking everything."

"My instincts are telling me that this is my most powerful spell." She pulled out a small cone with a diamond tip and sent her energy into the cone and then let the words in her mind come out of her lips. She released the spell and instead of the cold of cone that most people would have expected a huge cone of lightning tore through that area. It was probably not quite as far as a cone of cold would have gone but it felt like the power was a lot higher than would have been for a typical cone of cold.

Novum looked at the area and felt the power of the spell and he was not sure if he could have taken that head on without his armor. This spell could take out a lot of people if it was used at the right spot during a battle. He knew that this spell was the replacement for cone of cold and while it would be a great spell in battle this spell seemed a lot deadlier and honestly the intimidation factor on this type of spell was a lot higher as well.

"Cast a normal light bolt for me please."

Shannon raised an eyebrow at him. "Why?"

"I know how the regular lightning bolt is supposed to look and react to things and that will give me a good baseline. The altered cone of cold is an amazing spell that I think will be a huge crushing blow to the moral of any people that it does not kill. But that does not tell me how much stronger your normal lightning spells are."

"Oh, okay I guess that does make sense." She pulled out the diamond rod that she needed and went into her chant. It did not take her as long as most mages when they used the spell and the lightning bolt that flew out, shot out to almost two hundred feet and the static electricity feeling in the air was way stronger than it should have been.

Novum was guessing on her level but based on the fact that she could cast fifth level spells she needed to be at least level ten and that meant her spell was maxed out. Novum was not sure about that. He felt that the spell was not even as strong as it could be and it was already stronger than it should be. He was not positive on that and without taking a hit from it he could not tell for sure, and he was not willing to take one of those without a very, very good reason.

"Did that tell you what you needed to know?"

"It told me that your spells are probably 150% the strength of what they should be. This is an estimate based on the distance that the bolt traveled. The static in the air is also really strong as well. That spell and any lightning spell that you cast is going to be crazy powerful. But do not forget that part of the spells that you convert will not be as powerful. They can be a huge surprise to the enemy and the added versatility is great. But you need to make sure that you are keeping that in mind."

"So you are saying that any lightning spell that I cast is a lot stronger and anything that is a different element is not a strong but a lot more versatile."

"Yes, that is what I am saying."

"Then why did you feel the need to say all that extra stuff."

"Because I am a nerd through and through and did not realize that I was doing it until you brought it up."

"Oh, sorry."

"Should have brought Theren out here to discuss it. He can come out next time so that he can help plan our war strategy. We will come out here tomorrow after we pick out the stuff for the invitation and leave them with Melissa. She will know what to do and who to send them to."

"Sounds like a plan. Do we have to head back to the manor right now?"

"We have a little bit."

"Good." She put her arms back around his neck and pulled him in tight. They shared a few long kisses and lost track of time. When Novum saw how late it was getting he had Noctis push his limits all the way back to the manor. They were only a couple of minutes late to dinner.

The usual suspects were all at dinner and Shannon quickly fit in like she had know most of them all of her life. They were good people and even though the girls were all beautiful she did not feel threatened by any of them. She was not sure of the reason for it but had a feeling that it had something to do with how much she knew that first Alan and now Novum loved her.

After dinner, the key leaders of the town came and met up with the couple. Shannon was sitting on one side and Theren was on the other side. Most everyone had met him but they did not realize the influence he would have on the baron. Rurik stood as his normal spot right behind him. Novum had invited him to the table a few times but he always insisted that this is where he should be.

"Okay everyone. For those of you that have not met him yet, this is Theren. Theren is one of my closest friends and has decided to stick around the area for the time being. He will be a huge asset to us if the Earl decides that he wants to cause trouble and he has experienced a lot in his lifetime and can be considered to be well rounded."

Theren gave a bow of his head. "It is a pleasure to meet all of you and I look forward to learning and teaching all of you. I am not afraid to ask questions when I don't know something so please don't be afraid to ask me."

"And for the remaining few of you that have not heard this is Shannon. My fiancé. There is a lot of complicated things in our past that were just sorted out recently and we have found each other again. We will be getting married on the 1st of the month on the edge of the lake. Melissa and Shannon will design and send out the invitations starting tomorrow but you can all consider yourselves invited."

There was a round of applause from all of those in attendance. Color filled Shannon's cheeks. She still did not like to be in front of everyone. "Thank you all. I will do my best to make sure that everyone has everything that they need and support this town to the best of my abilities."

The room applauded again and then went into a basic rundown of who was who and what they were in charge of and the current status of everything. It was informative to all three of them. The only person that did not say anything during the meeting was Rurik. He waited until the meeting was over to introduce himself.
