Chapter seven

"I'm sorry, but did I offend you in any way?" Sophia asked, her voice filled with emotions.

Valerie chuckled. "Offend me? You didn't just offend me, you did something unforgivable. Alex is mine, back off or else…"

"I see you two are already getting along." Alex interrupted, walking back to them.

Valerie's face suddenly lit up with a warm friendly smile. "Of course... I was just telling Sophia here how lucky she is to have you." Valerie said. "Isn't that right Sophia?"

However, Sophia just stood there speechless. She tried to tell Alex what Valerie said, but she knew he wouldn't believe her, no one would. Alex noticed the tears gathered in Sophia's eyes, and quickly pulled her aside.

"What's the matter? You aren't thinking about that farm again are you?" Alex asked, his voice etched with concern.

"I-I..." Sophia stuttered.

"C'mon, let's get you settled in; we'll talk about this tomorrow," Alex said and led her up the stairs.
