Valerie's expression transformed from indifference to shock as she opened the door to find Alex standing before her, his face etched with concern and anger. "Alex, I thought you were sleeping at the office tonight?" Valerie stammered, attempting to hide her surprise.
Alex raised an eyebrow. "I never said I was going to sleep at work. I only said there would be a probability that I would because of the workload. However, I finished on time, and decided to return home." Alex retorted.
Valerie tried to hide her shock. She knew that Sophia would have told Alex what she did to her, and she knew that Alex would support Sophia without even thinking.
"Dam... I have to think of something quick. I've made a really big mistake." Valerie said to herself. "If I had known that Alex would be back so early, I wouldn't have left Sophia out this long... Dam it."
