Once he was sure Destiny got in her house, Zane quietly emerged from his car. He was careful to avoid making any sound. He walked past her Porsche parked on the driveway and couldn't help but peek inside. To his surprise, he didn't see a single personal belonging in the car except for a necklace hanging from her rear view mirror. It was a simple gold chain, and at the tip of the chain, a half of a heart was dangling. He wondered if Destiny had given the other half of the heart necklace to someone and felt a wave a jealousy. He dismissed the thought and continued on his quest.
As Zane reached the top of the landing, he realized this was a terrible idea. What was he thinking? He actually followed this woman like a madman and probably scared her half to death! He surely couldn't just walk up to her door now and knock to expect that Destiny would open her door welcomingly to a stranger! He realized that he followed her on an impulse and had not thought this through well enough.
He was about to turn and head back to his car when he saw a light turn on and illuminate a window to the left of the house's door. He froze, hoping that he had not been spotted.
And then he saw her. Destiny was in the room, which appeared to be her bedroom. She had a glass of water in her hand and gulped the entire contents of it down. She set the empty cup on her nightstand and sat down on her bed. She was still dressed in the shimmery white dress, and he was completely mesmerized by the scene. He wondered what she would do next.
To his surprise, he watched Destiny cup her face in her hands, and she proceeded to cry. Her body started to shake, and her emotions seemed to keep growing. Zane wanted to jump through the door, rush to her and console her. But he realized he couldn't let her know he was there watching her. He felt completely helpless, and his stomach flipped in a knot. Why did he care for this woman? He didn't even know her, yet it seemed like his instincts were to protect her. He hadn't cared about anyone in years, and he couldn't understand why this stranger was captivating him and drawing him in.
Sara has just finished her water when her emotions took over. She was shaken up by the strange car following her. She was sure that the man at the club was different than others, but she noticed him gaping at her when she left the club. She felt alone and completely hopeless. Her eyes began to well up as her sadness and helplessness intensified. A tear ran down her cheek, and just like that, it was as if the floodgates had opened. Her body started to shake uncontrollably, and her tears kept flowing. She cried for her mother, she yearned for a true companion, and she felt like her life was an abyss of emptiness.
Zane continued to watch her from the landing and was frozen. His eyes were glued to her, and his body couldn't move. He knew he couldn't stand and watch her all night, but he didn't want to leave her in this state either.
Sara lifted herself off her bed and walked to the bathroom. She washed her face with cold water, sobering her up to her reality. She was becoming more used to shoving her emotions down and hardening her soul to her reality. Her tears stopped, and she decided to change and get in to bed.
She walked back to her room, and her face was hard and serious, just like her heart was becoming. She peeled off her white dress, tossed it on the chair in her bedroom, and as she was about to reach for her night gown, she heard a noise by the front door. Her heart raced for a second, and she dashed to her window and looked outside, but she didn't see anything stirring. She shook her head and thought she must have been hearing things, and she slipped in to bed wearing just her undergarments.
Zane watched Destiny walk out of the bathroom. He saw her remove her dress and admired her beautiful body, covered by a white laced bra, and a thong barely covering her sex. Her perky nipples were slightly visible, just at the edge of her bra. He felt himself desiring her and wanting to run in to the house and take her. He took a step closer, and he didn't realize that he stepped on a twig, which snapped under his foot. Shit! She couldn't have heard that!
Sure enough, he saw her rush over towards the window. He quickly moved out of sight and hid in the shadows as he felt his heart racing. He saw her look around, and to his relief, she didn't see or notice him. He watched her slide in to bed, and he decided it was best to leave now before he was discovered.
Just as he was getting in his car, he saw the glow of headlights rapidly approaching. He quickly turned his car on and sped off before the car arrived. Not a minute sooner, and he would have been caught!
