The Archaic Dragon Mage

Wyatt was alone in the world. When the rifts opened the world was thrown into chaos. Archaic mages came through those rifts, and war after war followed. The last war had ended when Wyatt was just a baby, but he had still lost his eye to it. The empty socket, and loss of depth perception made him an easy target. Wyatt being an orphan meant that no one back him up when he did get targeted. Wyatt was used to fighting for himself, and the draft was going to force him into military academy. He had no genetic markers to become an ability user so he had already accepted the fact that he would probably die during his two years required military rotation after the academy. It was just a fact of life. Non ability users were just cannon fodder, and archaic abilities were highly restricted. Wyatt didn't think anything off it. That is until he found a marble in an old rift area. A marble that would change everything.

The next level

Ethan let me lean into him as we crossed the campus slowly. System my xp.

175/200 xp until level 5.

All I'd have to do was kick a little more ass. I was so close to the next level. I was too tired to do anything tonight. It would have to wait until tomorrow. I leaned into the wall once I was back into the room.

I started peeling off my clothes slowly. Ethan looked at me funny before heading into his room. Leaving me in peace as I undressed. I switched back, and curled up right there. Falling asleep pretty much the instant my head hit the floor.

I woke up a few hours later. Ethan had moved me up on my desk with a pillow underneath me. I yawned, and jumped down. Startling Ethan as he worked on his assignment.

"See you in the morning," I opened my door, and went in.

That little nap had given me a little more energy so I shut the door, and focused on the air around me. I could feel the stagnant air in the room with me. I was so still. I started trying to move the air around me. I got the air in the room to circulate slowly.

Creating a nice slow breeze. My awareness of the room expand further as my water affinity activated as well. I hadn't realized I could use both affinities at once so it was a pleasant surprise. This was a good time to try, and work on ice. Ice is a branch of water magic so I should be able to pull off using it.

I focused on the feeling of the water, and tried to will it into freezing for me. The rooms temperature didn't even drop. I yawned as I stopped manipulating the elements. I jumped onto my bed, and curled up to sleep properly. Sleep was one of the best things I had right now, but I hoped that would change as I got stronger.

My head snapped up to that stupid beeping. I growled as I stood up stretching slowly. My tail lashed back, and forth knocking the blanket off my bed. My wings flapped as I stretched, and then snapped closed. I hadn't thought of moving them.

I stared at my wings for a second. I hadn't actually thought about moving them. They hadn't moved on their own. I just hadn't thought about moving them. My body was stiff so I stretched again.

Slower this time. I jumped out of bed, and strolled out into the common area. Grabbing the clothes I'd left in the common area, and bringing them back to throw them into the into the dirty clothes shoot. I switched forms, and pulled some fresh clothes on. I kind of wished there was clothes that changed with me.

I smiled to myself slowly. As if something like that could actually exist. It was important for me to get some shit done while I had the energy to do so. Ethan followed along with me like he usually did. Classes were slow as usual.

I napped away most the day. Lunch was my up point of the day.

180/200 xp until level 5.

We practiced marksmanship again. I managed to level my marksmanship skill up to five while I was at it. I was easily the best marksman in the class, and it seemed to piss some of the other students off. I was sitting off by myself thinking about what I would do now that they're were more club members to watch out for tomorrow. The fact that Luke, Conrad, and the water guy ended up in this class with me was just an added irritation.

I closed my eyes for a moment as I felt pain coarse through my cheek. My eyes snapped open as I looked at the source. Luke was making himself a pain again. My irritation boiled over for just a moment. Luke was already bleeding by the time I realized what I'd done.

My hand didn't even throb as Luke's head snapped back. I quickly got to my feet, and shifted a few steps back. My rage flared hot in my chest as I got moving. I still couldn't care less what he was going to do. I was going to hit him at least one more time.

I rushed forward. I was done dealing with this shit right now. Three quick strikes to his midsection, and I'd broken both my hands. Along with quite a few of his ribs. My hands burned as I barely held back a growl.

"Wyatt?" Ethan's voice broke through my rage filled mindset.

I looked at him as my rage settled down in my chest. No one was approaching me because of the amount of murderous intent I was releasing. I'd gotten a couple notifications from the system but I was ignoring. My hands throbbed painfully as I stuffed them in my pockets.

"Relax," I looked at him as I stuffed down my murderous intent, "I'm fine."

I started walking towards Ethan as Luke slowly got to his feet. Luke hadn't fallen when I hit him. He hadn't been prepared for me to strike back like that. He hadn't hardened his body properly in time for my strikes. I kept my hands in my pockets as I looked at him with a single cold blue eye.

He was wincing. Rage in his eyes. My head started throbbing with my hands. Yet my face remained indifferent. I rarely expressed myself in human form nowadays.

When I was angry I would show it, but unless it was just me, and Ethan I showed little to no emotion at all. Any emotion I did show was usually false.

"Don't mess with me you idiot," I felt my face twist into rage as I released the full force of my murderous intent onto him.

Luke paled as he folded into a seated position on one of the many benches.

25xp awarded. 205/200 xp.

I didn't read anymore of the notification as I ran full speed for the bathroom. That xp was the boost I needed to level up. I usually glowed when I leveled up. I slammed into the bathroom door, and rushed for a stall as I started to glow. I locked the stall door as that familiar slight burning sensation ran through me.

My hands were on fire from me breaking them. I looked at my broken hands as I sat down on the edge of the toilet. They were starting to heal slowly as I sat there. It hurt for the bones to realign slowly. There was bonus to the pain in my hands.

It almost completely distracted me from that slight burning.
