The Antagonist's Final Ambition: Chronicles of Chaos

One day, the Lords of the Abyss issued a challenge to the entire human race. "Come humans, challenge the abyss because your wish will be granted. A single wish will be the reward of the one who manages to overcome all of the trials." To keep the promise that he made to his only friend, Lucian intended to venture inside this Abyss, a place where anything could happen, a bottomless hole that appeared on Earth after the Great Cataclysm. Soon after setting out on this journey, Lucian met Rita under unusual circumstances, and they started to travel together. She was a woman that had the potential to become the last piece that he needed to put his plan into execution. But was Rita the person Lucian thought she was? Lucian was also in possession of a cursed helmet that asks for a heavy price from the one who uses it in exchange for extraordinary power. Lucian knew that he needed more than just his intellect if he wanted to finish what he started. But what were Lucian's real objectives? Was he after the wish?/What would he find beyond this bottomless hole? What would he see at the end of his journey? :::::: Disclaimer: The art on the cover is not mine. From the past to the present

"What's your name?"

"Lucian."

"I am Rezalea Everlight."

"Sure."

"…" Rezalea looked frustrated, not knowing what to do with Lucian. She couldn't read him at all, even though she was good at reading people.

"Why didn't you call the guards?" Lucian asked with an uninterested voice.

This also annoyed Rezalea. Lucian didn't appear in the least bothered by the situation. He exhibited absolute confidence. And her charms that she was quite proud of didn't work on him.

"Do you even need to ask?" Rezalea asked with a dry voice. If her attack couldn't do anything to him, it implied that normal guards wouldn't be able to stop Lucian.

Moreover, Lucian wasn't doing anything that caused direct harm to anyone, so a battle that could destroy the entire place wasn't necessary.

In the end, all she could do was keep an eye on him herself.

"Why waste your life in a place this?" Lucian asked, all of a sudden, causing Rezalea to halt.

"W…" She wanted to say, 'What do you even know about me?' Or, 'I am not wasting my life!'

She wanted to argue back, but Lucian's words were the truth.

She wasn't married and didn't do anything but spend her time in this garden observing mutated plants when she wasn't attending official events with her brother.

Still, it wasn't like anyone was forced to be like this. She chose to support her brother.

"Right, my brother needs me by his side…" Or so Rezalea thought to herself.

From the moment he saw her, Lucian could tell that she was not the Emperor's wife because she was only guarded by five knights that weren't that strong.

The reason for this was, of course, because she was already strong. For the Emperor, it was a good thing, but for her, it wasn't.

A woman that was intelligent and powerful was standing beside the Emperor, so if she were to disappear, the Emperor would lose a part of his strength and someone that he could trust.

If she was an evil person, it was a different story, but it looked like she was more on the side of those who act based on emotion. And Rezalea herself knew about her weakness.

She was intelligent enough to understand what her brother had to shoulder because of his position. And that was exactly why she couldn't leave him alone.

In this world, anyone could aim for her and her brother's life while pretending to smile like a friend.

From Lucian's point of view, however, she was rather pitiful and her talent was being wasted, buried under the shadow of her brother.

"…" But Lucian didn't say anything else, and Rezalea also stayed quiet.

They continued to walk until they finally reached a certain place that was still inside the garden.

"Who built this?" Lucian asked, in front of them was a big mansion that looked out of place in this garden.

"The first Emperor reconstructed this mansion as a commemoration of humanity's greatest heroes, our ancestors, the Godsworth family," Rezalea said proudly, "Everything you see in this area was put back together to the last pieces."

"…" Lucian didn't say anything and just walked toward the mansion.

"Your highness Rezalea!"

A group of knights rushed at Lucian and Rezalea, and surrounded them.

"Don't move! This is your last warning!" The young knight who was the leader of Rezalea's personal guard shouted at Lucian.

However, since Rezalea was close to Lucian they couldn't immediately attack him. It was almost as if Lucian took Rezalea as a hostage.

"Stand back." Rezalea raised her hand and ordered the knights to stand back.

"But, your Highness…"

"Wait for us here. This is an order," Rezalea said in a rather stern tone which was rare.

The knights couldn't do anything but now their heads and stand back.

Lucian was never bothered by all of that, and he had his eyes fixated on the mansion. There was a room particular, or more precisely a cave like place, that he needed to see.

After entering the mansion, a lot of memories appeared inside Lucian's mind. Everything was the same as back then.

"…" Rezalea followed Lucian from behind, observing him, wondering how did he know about the mansion. "Who are you?"

Rezalea asked about Lucian's identity again because it was odd for Lucian to know about something that was hidden from the public. And even if he knew about it, only a few people understood the real value of this mansion. Because apart from its history, or was just a normal mansion.

"Hey, don't just ignore me. Where are you going?" Rezalea saw Lucian going to the basement the of the house.

"It's not here," Lucian said.

"What are you talking about?" Rezalea was more and more confused about Lucian's behavior.

"Tell me, what did the Godsworth family do one thousand years ago?"

"…" Rezalea was a little bit hesitant to answer Lucian. She didn't even know how he knew about the Godsworth family, but then again, he seemed to know everything.

In the end, she decided to tell Lucian about the story of the Godsworth family that had become created Everlight.

According to her, when humanity was about to get annihilated, a hero appeared. The hero was the strongest human who held the Sword of Salvation and managed to exterminate all of the terrifying monsters, protecting what was left of humankind.

"His name was Lirius Godsworth and he was the greatest hero of mankind…" Rezelea explained.

"Lirius?" After hearing this name, something came to Lucian's mind. As he thought, something wasn't right.

"Yes. Lirius and her sister Rosa were two of the most powerful pillar of mankind during these dark times."

"Rosa?" After standing immobile for a few seconds, Lucian turned back and walked away.

Lucian could already tell where all this was going. That was a name that e thought he would never hear again. Something that only one should be aware of.

"Hey, wait! So what did you want to see in the end?"

"Do you know why your brother requested the adventurers to take part in the raid?" Lucian asked.

Again, Lucian asked a question that wasn't even related to the discussion. Nonetheless, Rezalea still answered him.

"Well, isn't it because humans had finally the chance to come in contact with different beings?"

"…" Lucian didn't answer. He already knew that things weren't that simple.

The Lords of the Abyss, the Godsworth family, the Helmet of Pandemonium, what was the connection between all of these?
