Campfire Delicacies

When Dylan pointed out that the man in front was not an Omega, Darius automatically tried to gauge what the person was. At first, he thought it would be strange for a Gamma to run a farm. However, when he took a look at the supervisor named Ansel, he realized that it was so easy to identify what Ansel was.

Ansel had green eyes, and his hair was dyed with two shades of brown. The lighter color came toward the tips, while almost blackish-brown stayed on his roots. The man also came with a bell earring that made small clinks every time he turned his head… and a nose ring that only clamped a nostril. His clothes were the same as the Omegas: white shirt, beige apron, and denim pants.

The supervisor then approached them with a very friendly demeanor. "Hello, Second Master Darius, Second Young Master Dylan. I was told that you'd be joining the children today for the studies. It's a good day to meet another Delta. I thought Nick would never find anyone else."

"Deltas are very rare in these parts, Ansel." Darius then rolled Dylan's wheelchair further ahead, while Ansel walked next to them. Dylan didn't look ahead and stared at the man more.

As they walked, Ansel couldn't help but chuckle at the round green eyes of the boy. "Do you know your special ability, Dylan? I can communicate and charm normal animals, so I can run the farm easily. Sometimes, I can really push it and bewitch some Betas in battle."

Dylan's eyes glistened. This man was like him? This man also had a special ability? No wonder he also had green eyes. The boy chirped in glee: "Uncle said my ability is rooted in psychokinesis, but my mind is still too weak to make use of it fully. Can you train me?"

"Hm, I think I can, but I'm not the best teacher you can get. Psychokinesis is one of the hardest abilities to master." Ansel pouted at the discovery and rubbed his chin. "How about this? When you're older, I can look for someone who excels in mind control. That will help you! Of course, we might need permission from the Alpha!"

"…I want to grow old faster…" Dylan finally stopped looking in Ansel's direction and smiled ahead. He could see how the other children cheered upon seeing a huge cow in the small shed where they were asked to go.

["Psychokinesis is a dangerous ability."] Darius twitched when he heard Ansel's voice in his head. He glanced at the supervisor, who was only walking with his hands on his head, nonchalantly humming as they went. His voice echoed again: ["Please don't push Dylan too much. Even if it's ultra-powerful in theory, his body can only take a few if he didn't have proper foundations."]

'I wasn't planning to push him too hard. I was actually going to warn Nicholai about proceeding that way.' The father sighed before rubbing Dylan's head.

Ansel hummed within Darius's mind before chuckling: ["All right. Nick knows a lot of things about Deltas, so it would be stupid if he chose to hasten the development of Dylan's powers without the proper mental training. I, for one, know that Nick isn't stupid."]

'Do all of you call him Nick?'

["No. Only his friends can call him that. As for you, Second Master, you should call him something more appropriate like… I don't know… the greatest love of my life?"]

Darius shot a glare at the supervisor, but Ansel hurriedly jogged away to evade him and greet the children who were waiting for him. As if he did nothing, Ansel wore his smile wide and entertained the children with the activities. After all, even the Gamma children wanted to see how their milk was made.

The father only shook his head and grumbled, with no coherent words coming out of his mouth. He just took out his frustration as he ruffled his own hair heavily. When he looked down at Dylan, the boy was giggling behind his hand.

"Daddy, don't be mad. I also want Daddy to be happy because he has a mate." The naughty middle child hid his mouth, so only Darius could hear his very soft words. He also evaded looking at his father's face to avoid seeing his unamused expression.

"…why won't you guys stop teasing me about that asshole?"

From afar, Nicholai was tuning into the scene while attending to the higher training grounds. There was a strange smile on his face, even if he was being attacked by the Gammas as part of their training. He caught the last one and flung him away with just one hand, but he sighed with a relief tone.

"Let's stop here today. You've all done well." Nicholai finally opened his eyes and froze in sudden displeasure. All the soldiers were whimpering on the floor, clearly beaten up. The smile on his face would fall, but he decided to just close his eyes to watch a better scene.

"Yes, you've all done well today."

After seeing the cows and how milk was being collected, the children came to see the rest of the farm that had something to do with the milk. They came to where the milk was bottled and where the cheeses were made. As for their activity for the day, they were asked to either draw or write a short essay about a set prompt from the teacher. Of course, Darius was barred from helping his children.

While Darius was sitting around the area where the children were left to write their activity, Ansel came to him again. He even brought another worker with him. With a smile, he rubbed his hands. "Second Master, do you mind taste-testing a few cheese curds for me? We're thinking of serving some for the banquet, but we want to know which you prefer."

"Hm? Are we supposed to eat this alone or…?" Darius took one and inspected the cheese curd. It didn't crumble after light squeezing, so the father took out a lighter and heated the curd a little as if making a campfire delicacy. When he figured it was hot enough without burning his own hand, he popped it inside his mouth and chewed on it. "This one's good, but you shouldn't let the kids… eat too much…"

His words trailed when he took a look at them and saw the shock on Ansel's face. Not knowing the reason why even the Omega worker was stunned, Darius then frowned at them. "Sorry, was that the first time you saw someone use a lighter on a cheese curd?"

Ansel covered his mouth with a hand as he laughed, seemingly trying and failing to explain his behavior. He then took a few seconds to burst into a laughing fit. It attracted the children, and they all smelled the curds held by the worker behind Ansel.

"I'll… I'll give you kids some treats after submitting your papers!" Ansel got his words out before laughing again. He then held a hand out for Darius. "S-Sorry, Second Master, I didn't mean to laugh at your face. I just find it odd that out of twenty wolves that I asked to taste my cheese curd, only you and Nick decided to heat it over some fire. Oh, my God, is that an Alpha thing?!"

"What the hell? You don't go camping, do you?!"
