Chapter 5

"Delina, wait" Nora called after her, finally reaching out and taking her friend's arm. "Del." The two were tired of the rush, but Delina was suffering more from the effect of Kraig's words than from the race itself.

"He hates me." She spoke between hiccups. "I'm a human, I'm weak, I'm no good."

"Shhh." Nora pulls Delina into her arms, stroking the hair on top of her friend's head. "He's an asshole if he can't see beyond you're not being from the same kind as him."

Delina smothered some sobs, pulled away from Nora to wipe the tears on the back of her hand, before speaking.

"He's an Alpha. It is obvious that a human is not fit to be Luna. But, I can't let him go!"

"If the Moon Goddess has chosen you as his perfect mate, then you are. At least, that's what she thinks. Now, if he wants to go against the Goddess's wishes, that's his problem. He's the one who's going to lose out, Del." She wiped away the tears that still rolled down Delina's face, and looked into her eyes, before speaking. "You are wonderful and I'm sure you weren't sent to our Pack by chance. Kraig, with all his Alpha training, should have known it better than anyone. If he doesn't, he's not fit to be Alpha, regardless of the blood that runs through his veins. I am ashamed to have an Alpha like him." In a way, Nora was happy that Delina wasn't a shewolf, because being an orphan was too another problem among wolves, and she would have felt the pain of rejection in a unbearable level.  So high it could kill. Being a human, in this situation, was better. She didn't say it out loud.

After a few more minutes of consoling Delina, Nora leads her to a secluded table and takes two pieces of strawberry shortcake, her now-sister's favorite, from her bag. It was a bit broken, but the exercise they made, but still looked good.

"Our first snack, as sisters, officially." Nora declared, pompously handing a fork to Delina, who chuckled.

"You are the light in my life, Nora. You and Elenora." She reached for Nora's hand as she said this, smiling. Nora smiled back.

"Pathetic. You are two disgusting lesbians." Keira said, stopping by their table. Kraig told the school principal before the break time what had happened hours earlier and Keira received a warning for it, plus a few scolding looks from Kraig. She hated being scolded.

"Piss off, Keira." Nora spoke, gripping Delina's hand tighter.

"Who do you think you are to talk to me like that? I am the daughter of Beta!" Keira spoke, stamping her foot and approaching Nora, ready to slap her. But a strong hand caught her wrist halfway. Kendric.

"If you touch her, you'll get another warning. You almost ran over them both and now you want to hit one of them? I'm sure the situation from earlier will no longer be seen as an accident, will it?" He spoke seriously, staring at Keira, who wrinkled her nose and pulled her wrist from his grip. Taking one last look at the two girls, she walked away.

"Thank you, Kendric." Nora said, her cheeks flushing.

"You're welcome, princess." He spoke, giving a sideways smile. "See you around." He waved and walked away. Delina couldn't help noticing how nervous her friend was around the boy, as well as the look he gave her.

"Do you like him?"

"Is it so obvious?" Nora asked, looking around worriedly.

"A little bit. I hope he's your mate then. He seems nice, even though he's friends with..." Delina's voice trailed off and she looked down.

From a distance, Kraig watched them. He was feeling terrible for saying those things and hurting Delina, but he needed to get away from her. More importantly, that she accept it. Zyon said nothing, giving Kraig a chill.

Kendric stopped beside the future Alpha, sighing as he looked at Nora, who was smiling gently at Delina.

"She is great." He commented, louder than he intended, causing Kraig to look at him with a raised eyebrow.

"Interested?"

"It's been a long time since I set my eyes on that beauty, but she's very quiet and I don't have the courage. She's the serious dating type and you know I'm not looking for that." Kendric put both hands in his pants pockets, shrugging his shoulders. "I'm too young for that."

"You say that because you haven't found your mate yet. The day you do that, you're going to want to be glued to her all the time." Kraig spoke, his eyes blurry.

"As if you could say anything, right? Spare me of your bullshit." Kendric shook his head and took a few steps forward. "Come on, we're going to be late. Alpha's son or not, you'll still get a warning if you don't get in there before the teacher does." Kraig nodded and walked beside his friend towards the next class.

The next day started out in a turmoil at the Saito's house, as Elenora and Delina were preparing a more than special breakfast for Nora. When she woke up, she found a tray full of everything she liked best beside her: pancakes topped with Nutella, berries with chocolate sauce and whipped cream, cheese sandwich with ham on the grill, and pomegranate and cranberry's juice. It was all about balance.

"Congratulations, Nora!!" Elenora and Delina said in unison as they entered the room, before hugging the girl and covering her with kisses.

"Thanks! Now, let me eat!" The three laughed.

Elenora looked at Delina and they both nodded in agreement.

"Baby, Del and I ordered something for you. So that you'll always carry us with you." Nora stopped eating and watched as her mother took a box out of her apron pocket. It was a red box, and when she opened it, sleeping on the velvet, was a beautiful simple white gold chain with a heart-shaped pendant.

Nora took it out of the box and realized that the pendant was one of those who open. She looked at the two in front of her, smiling, before looking inside the heart pendant. The photo of the two of them was there, on one side. But the other was empty. She frowned.

"This space is for when you find your mate. Or, who knows, a picture of yourself. It's up to you. Happy Birthday, my dear! We love it so much!" Elenora said, kissing her daughter's forehead. "Finish eating, Nora. Del and I are already fed. And you two go get dressed as soon as this trail is empty. There's no school today, so we're going  for a walk!"
