Skylar's POV

The days dragged on, each passing moment weighed down by the shadows of uncertainty. Cain's pack mourned, not just for their fallen Alpha, but for the gaping hole left by his sudden disappearance. Little did they know, that Cain was enduring a fate far worse than death.

I moved through the packhouse, the whispers of sorrow echoing in the walls. I desperately searched for Jace until I found him on their pack's training ground.

"I just saw him," I all but whispered, shock still evident in my demeanor.

"Saw who?" Jace asked.

"Cain."

As soon as I uttered his name, everyone froze, the only sound was that of the birds chirping and the leaves playing in the wind.
