Derek tightened his fists as he read the meaning in Maya's steady gaze. Earlier, he had agreed to do just that, if the attackers had come before his little witch. But now, he didn't see himself doing it. The same reason had suffixed again. How would others think of him if he abandoned them in battle and left to the safety of his room? He would be termed a weak alpha who didn't care for his people. No, he wouldn't do that. He would rather stay here and fight. If the beast rears his ugly head, then Anthony will subdue it again.
"Derek, go inside now!" he heard his mother shout at him through the mind link. But he refused to move from his position, glaring at Anthony, Shane and Clem afterwards when he noticed them approaching him. From the sorry look in their eyes, he was sure that they were about to carry him off to his room forcefully.
"Don't you dare." he said aloud to them, causing them to stop in their movements.
