The Entire Stone Spine Hills is currently a land of destruction.
Broken bone shells littered the area, the green grass had been uprooted by the winds, the soil was desolate and it was spread out like pieces of garbage by a powerful impact that came from a single area.
And within this broken down land, Chrysos laid down on the ground in a fetal position.
After the explosion's impact disappeared completely, Chrysos slowly raised his head to see the devastating aftermath. And as expected, the explosion ruptured the land pretty badly to the point of it being unrecognizable if it weren't for the giant spines.
Looking at the nearest giant bone shell that missed him by two meters, Chrysos sighed in relief. "I can't believe I survived that.." After he finished speaking, he spat out some blood, the shockwave was a bit too much for him to handle.
He stood up with crimson liquid leaking from his mask. Even though the explosion was powerful, he wasn't convinced that the worm died. "Tch, that worm really didn't have any other options, eh? That explosion even rearranged my organs, that's for sure."
The dust slowly dissipated from the area around Chrysos. And as expected, the worm was still alive, still in its towering position that casted a large shadow over Chrysos.
This time however, the Bone Worm no longer had its armor.
A bad time to expose its own weakness.
But give the worm some credit as well. The only reason why it couldn't burrow down the ground was because of the chemicals Chrysos spilled all over it that ignites whenever it's under extreme friction.
Now that it's no longer a problem, all it had to do was burrow down and escape to live for another day.
But who was Chrysos? Was he going to let that happen?
"Ngggiiieeeeehhh-!" The worm shrieked before it started to curve downwards to dive under the earth.
Chrysos saw this and wasted no time to catch up. He exerted Steel Rage and Swiftness to the max before drinking a swiftness potion to run as fast as he could.
Boom!
His first footstep created a small shockwave that spread out before fading away. Each step that he took was filled with so much power that every single one of them caused the ground to leave a large hole as he ran.
The worm sensed Chrysos approaching rapidly like a missile, so it knew that it had to stop that from happening.
Fwiish!
Miniature tornadoes flew out from the small slits in the worm's body.
These tornadoes are just rifle bullets on steroids. And with the fast drilling motion that it uses, one hit was enough to pierce through Chrysos a hundred times over.
But despite the Bone Worm possessing this powerful projectile, it couldn't hit targets accurately, so it had to compensate by shooting out an amount that blots out the entire sky.
The worm also locates its prey by using echolocation and by smelling the air.
Chrysos is coated in Scent Masking potions, so the only way it could locate Chrysos is by using its powerful and sensitive hearing, or by feeling the Divinium fluctuations in the air.
Because of this, Chrysos was able to weave through the net of bullets without a single one of them grazing his clothes.
But at the same time, the worm was about to escape by digging through the ground. If Chrysos doesn't get to it fast enough, the worm will escape and Chrysos just spent a lot of gold coins worth of preparation for nothing.
With a flip, he dodged the incoming bullets like a swooping gale avoiding raindrops from a thunderstorm.
When he landed using his hand to negate the fall, he kept bolting forward and eventually reached the worm's gigantic body.
He ran into a small crevice where there was no way the worm could shoot out any of those tornadoes at him. He dug his fingers in which pulled him along the worm that was trying to burrow underground. Chrysos pulled out Angelfeather from its sheath and plunged it deep into the unprotected flesh of the Bone Worm.
When he pulled it out, there wasn't even a trace of blood as the wound healed up right before his eyes.
"As expected.." Chrysos revealed a sinister grin. He took out a vial of Venomous Oil that he brewed and coated Angelfeather with it. After that, he stored the vial back into his belt and stabbed the body of the Bone Worm once again.
Tsss…
When Angelfeather's blade cut through the worm's skin, it released a pungent yet clear gas that was created from the cells that failed to heal and instead, deteriorated before evaporating into steam.
Chrysos kept digging into the worm's body until he carved out a hole for him to crawl in. Even though it wasn't deep enough to reach the worm's innards, he at least would be safe from the worm's tunneling ability because of this safety pocket that he made for himself.
And from what Chrysos remembered, if he kept digging forward, he might reach the stomach directly if his analysis was correct.
Crumble…
Soon enough, the worm was finally underground. If it weren't for Chrysos' airtight mask, he wouldn't be able to breathe at the moment.
The darkness engulfed everything as they got further and further away from the surface. Chrysos took a few flesh constructs that he made from his spatial bag.
These were called the Lightbringer Scales.
A glimmering silver white biological material used to see through the dark by Lightbringer Crocodiles.
Chrysos put both scales on his mask's glass and the surroundings suddenly turned bright as day.
"Phew.. Alright, let's get to digging." Chrysos didn't dare to pull his arm out of the worm's body just in case something goes wrong. Of course, he didn't want to fall out of the worm's body and get squeezed to death because of friction between the rocks and the worm's fleshy body that was currently digging through the earth.
Angelfeather dug out pieces of the worm's flesh one bit at a time. This was a very mundane and repetitive task that even Chrysos felt a bit bored.
After digging through the worm for twenty minutes, he eventually dug through the worm's body. And just as Chrysos predicted, he found the stomach.
Seeing the giant pulsating organ, Chrysos was amazed. He had already seen different organs in all shapes and sizes, so something this large was a sight to behold.
Wasting no time, he dug a large enough hole to get his entire body through before jumping towards the stomach.
The worm's stomach is protected by a large flap of tissue that protects it from foreign material. And since there aren't many blood vessels in this area, Chrysos was able to dig his way through quite easily.
After all, this was the softest area of the worm. If he went where the heart is located for example, he would have to dig through another layer of cylindrical layers of bones that has more durability than the bone armor that he painstakingly destroyed earlier with his Friction Igniting potion.
But no worries, he just has to dig through the stomach and climb towards the heart.
Easy as that.
Chop!
A human sized hole was dug out from the stomach. Following this, Chrysos drank a Divinium recovery potion to get him back in peak condition when it came to Divinium.
"And down we go.." Chrysos leapt down after making a hole through the stomach.
The stomach acids weren't liquid, but a mass of gelatinous acids that digested food into energy.
And of course, this stomach has parasites.
"Hisss!" A large centipede rushed towards Chrysos after sensing his presence.
Chrysos was still looking around the stomach after avoiding a pile of acid jelly when the centipede attacked him. But because of the Lightbringer Scales, he quickly saw the centipede and sliced it in half.
Shhwing!
The centipede dropped down lifelessly. Chrysos looked at the tunnel behind him and confirmed it as the direction of the intestines. And because of this, he was sure that the tunnel forward was the direction of the heart.
But first, he had to fight the parasites in the worm's stomach.
Bugs, centipedes, slugs, worms, and undecipherable creatures all started rushing towards Chrysos.
These guys have no intellect at all and just eat whatever the worm eats. And since Chrysos is a fresh mass of flesh, everyone wanted a bite out of him.
To these parasites, Chrysos was food. But to him, these parasites were precious and rare alchemy materials.
"Jackpot! I've hit the jackpot!" Chrysos laughed as he took out a large bottle of Corrosion Resistance Potion and splashed it all over him. The danger from these parasites come from their corrosive saliva and blood. Now that Chrysos had a layer of protection on his body, these guys were only threatening to him because of their sharp limbs and appendages. The parasites with slimy bodies aren't even worthy of attention anymore.
Chrysos sliced the bug crawling towards him in one slash before cutting the tall centipede that was trying to stab him from his left side into pieces.
The slimy parasites were approaching him and tried digesting his feet before being burnt into a crisp using Angelfeather infused with fire Divinium.
Fwoosh!
The parasites around him squirmed and let out a series of shrill shrieks that were enough to send a chill down one's spine.
Grabbing these dead parasites, Chrysos stashed their corpses into his spatial bag.
However, the worm reacted to the fire.
After seemingly sensing the fire, the stomach grumbled before the piles of acid jelly started multiplying.
"Crap.. I should've never done that." Chrysos ignored these parasites and ran towards the tunnel that led towards the heart. He activated Steel Rage and made a run for it.
The hissing of the parasites could be heard as Chrysos ran past them. And for those who blocked his way, a slash or two took care of them easily, leaving a lot of charred carapace from these parasites.
Slowly, the corrosive jelly was filling the entire stomach. A wave of acid was about to consume Chrysos. He was about to reach the tunnel towards the trachea, but it was blocked by a mass of acid jelly.
Thinking fast, he looked at the parasites behind him that were stuck in the acid jelly without any problems. After confirming that they didn't melt despite the corrosive nature of the jelly, he ran towards the nearest centipede parasites in front of him before cutting them down.
"Sorry, I need you guys to survive." Chrysos didn't feel a single bit of guilt or shame as he said that.
He grabbed their corpses and created a tall shield made of their dead corpses before running head first into the jelly pile.
Splash!
The stomach acid splashed everywhere, but Chrysos managed to avoid them. He entered the trachea, seconds away from being digested.
Splurt..
The trachea closed, only a bit of jelly got out which posed little danger to Chrysos.
"Phew!" Chrysos laid down. He was just seconds from turning into worm food. It was great that he managed to survive this.
He looked towards the trachea and saw that it was a fleshy tunnel leading to an unknown area.
There was a large amount of slimy and slippery liquid that coated the tunnel. It was dripping down everywhere.
"Oh well, I'm still killing this worm despite the creepy atmosphere.. but on second thought, this is more disgusting than creepy." Chrysos stood up and walked towards the trachea.
When he stood up, he slipped and almost fell on his face.
"Whoops!" Chrysos steadied himself for a moment. He carefully stood up and took a step forward.
But even though he was careful this time, it was still slippery.
"Dammit, this guy isn't letting me climb up.." Chrysos frowned. But when he remembered that he still had spare steel knives inside his spatial bag, he had an idea. "Eh, I'll go with this then."
Chrysos took two knives and stabbed the first one down.
Thwack!
After seeing that the first knife was able to clamp on the trachea, he stabbed the second one and began climbing.
Just like a mountain climber, Chrysos was making his way slowly but surely towards the heart.
…
Outside…
The worm felt a burning sensation inside its stomach. The feeling was very uncomfortable to say the least. It forced itself to produce a lot of acid in its stomach until the sensation disappeared.
And just as it thought that everything was over, it then felt a sharp pain that was slowly making it up on its body.
The worm growled.
…
The trachea vibrated. And because of the vocal cords being nearby, Chrysos heard the foul and wretched scream of the worm.
"Someone's mad." Chrysos laughed as he climbed.
But suddenly, the trachea acted strangely. A pulse spread out from the top, sending out a wave towards the bottom.
This wave reached Chrysos, but because his grip was strong, the wave didn't drop him towards the stomach.
"The hell was that?" Chrysos looked up.
But before he could react, the worm's trachea constricted, tightening around his entire body with the intent to squeeze him to death.
"Agh!" Chrysos was truly caught unprepared this time.
Even though he spent quite a lot of items when it came to preparations, there were things that he was bound to have nothing to fight against.
The trachea was squeezing him ever so slightly until his bones started popping one by one. Each of these sensations was felt by the worm. Chrysos shouted in pain,
His arms and legs creaked under the constricting force before popping. His entire body was being squeezed so forcefully that his body was forced to occupy the space of a narrow tube.
Chrysos was about to use his golden fingers until the squeezing force stopped.
"Huh?" Chrysos took his hand back as the trachea loosened once again. "The hell is this guy thinking?"
He didn't know what happened, but all he could think of was that the worm must've thought that he died or something.
He used his left arm to cling on one of the knives and focused his attention to his bones. "Don't tell me my bones broke.. if that is truly the case, I might've.. huh?"
As Chrysos was about to heal himself using potions, he soon discovered that his bones were fine.
Nothing, no injuries whatsoever.
"The hell is going on?" Chrysos checked his right arm that he thought was broken. He looked at it closer and waved it around. There was nothing strange about it at all.
Not only that, his legs were perfectly fine as well.
"Eh?" Chrysos was confused. "Then what happened to me earlier? That definitely can't be my imagination.." Chrysos used his Divinium and began shrouding his arm.
What he felt was unbelievable.
Turns out, his arm was divided into many joints. Not only his arm, but the bones in his legs like his femur consisted of many sections of joints.
Somewhat reminiscent of a snake..
"Ohh…" Chrysos understood what happened. "To think that I also have preparations for this.." Chrysos was truly delighted.
This mission might be easier than he thought.
