CAUGHT IN THE ACT

Debbie had always been known for being a level-headed girl but does what she wants. She was the kind of girl who would push boundaries and challenge authority. And today was no different.

As she crept into her parents' house, Debbie knew what she was doing was wrong. She had planned to sneak in and steal her father's money. After all, she needed it for her trip with her boyfriend to Maui, Pablo had few relatives in Maui they could squat with before they will have their own apartment. She quietly presented her way to the top floor and made her way inside her father's room.

Opening the wardrobe, she found the stash of cash and quickly counted it.

Satisfied with the sum, she proceeded to the closet to gather her clothes. With all her essentials packed, Debbie headed down the stairs.

As she reached the ground floor, she was scared at first when she saw someone, thinking it was Roberto but she was relieved when she noticed it was only Jack. She saw her younger brother, Jack, staring at her. She could feel his suspicious eyes lingering on her. "What's going on?" he asked, noticing the bags in Debbie's hands.

Debbie took a deep breath, trying to remain calm. "I'm just packing a few things," she said, hoping she sounded convincing.

But Jack wasn't easily fooled. He had seen the way she had been acting lately and knew there was more to the story. "Why are you packing?" he persisted.

Debbie hesitated for a moment before blurting out, "I'm going away for a few days with my friends. Don't tell anyone, okay?" She didn't want anyone stopping her plans. It would ruin everything.

Jack nodded his head, but the look in his eyes said otherwise. Debbie knew she had to get out of there fast.

Slinging the bags over her shoulder, Debbie made her way towards the door. As she stepped out, her heart raced with excitement. She couldn't believe she had gotten away with it. But then she spotted Jack in the corner of her eye, still staring at her.

Debbie felt a pang of guilt wash over her. She knew what she was doing was wrong, and she had hurt her brother in the process. But it was too late now; she had made her decision.

With a final wave to Jack, Debbie ran down the street towards her boyfriend's car. They jumped in and drove off, leaving her past behind. But Debbie knew that she would never forget the look of distrust and suspicion in her brother's eyes.
