Beyern sat inside his room, harshly considering whether to try using {Mental-grimoire}, or something like it, to make that 'Joint node'- as Beyern now chose to call it- Easier to make.
He wasn't sure if it'd nutter his mastery gain or not, and the conclusion; 'Not worth the risk.'
So he wasn't going to be training {Mental-grimoire} today, and would probably be upgrading his mana-circuit again today.
But then suddenly, as if a bolt of thunder had struck through his mind, he hhad an idea 'What if I make joint nodes in the air? Can't I just train at all times?'
With this idea, he started to take out mana even faster than last time, since he had enhanced the circuit a bit again. It currently took about 13 minutes per mp, and since 1 meter of mana thread is 0.02 mp normally... It didn't take too much time in all truth.
2.1 mp in total, for 13 minutes per mp made him wait for around 26 minutes, though it may seem long, compared to previous waiting times, this was nothing.
It actually felt refreshing in all honesty, twenty six minutes of doing nothing except fantasizing about how to increase mastery. But that didn't mean he liked it, he'd rather spend that time actually training his mastery.
But he was lucky, very lucky, due to the fact that he doesn't have a physcally focused class, since then he'd be able to get {Conditioning}, and he'd have to force himself to do all sorts of extrenuous acts, that he wouldn't br able to do while walking around town.
Many others probably can't do that either with magic, but Beyern could, and that's all that matters.
He put his hand forward, and focused, allowing the threads to flow out of his palm, and start gathering into a extended ball-like form, the joint node.
If you compared this with Beyern's first successful trial, it was faster and more fluid, in comparison to the mechanical, one-string-moving-at-a-time, first attempt.
He knew he would be able to do this, but then for a good bit of time he built up even more mana, and then tried to edge his limits by manipulating a bit more mana at a time.
He bring out more and more mana, in the form of rings just to store them, quickly finding his limit.
Some might wonder why, with less then 10 mana, it took so much out of his. Simple, because a magic missile was just a clump of mana, the joint node with far more intricate, being made of three different and seperate objects intertwined in a unique way.
So it was obvious why it was harder to do the latter than the former.
Beyern thought for a bit, and attempted to bring out just a little bit more mana, and then he felt all of the mana constructs under his maintanance slowly crumble apart.
So he released that small bit of mana before anything drastic happened, he did not want to throw away around half-an-hour of mana just because he was a little too ambitious.
He chose to be prudent and condense the mana as much as he possibly could, coming out to a 1:7.3. Which you would consider quite impressive if you didn't consider the fact that it was basically impossible to keep even 0.0001 mp like that for any extended duration.
-Except if it were hidden in his mana pool.
Speaking of which, once he had put in so much extra mana he somehow felt a straining sensation. It wasn't a part of his body's normal sensations, though it coincided with them too. It was weird, he would look into that at a later date.
And yes, he had been able to surpass his natural mana regeneration, meaning he could no long sit for twelve years while constantly taking out more mana -Fortunately.
Just think of it, Beyern as an old man, constantly taking out mana to design some grand undead to rule them all, having spent 50 years of sleepless nights of various stimulants and restless days of sunlight.
Even Beyern himself would never want that, but if the moon opens its eye... He'd do it. Especially if it's the real of Eye of The Moon, you don't mess with the eye of the moon, you just don't, especially masters and below don't.
With a bunch of good quality artifacts in his 'Ruin', it was time to wake up the engineers and pushed in the adventurers.
An hour later he had finished, finding the speed at which mana is depleted is increasing- Something positive in his books in all honesty, though the efficacy was also decreasing at an even faster rate.
And it seemed to be exponential like the increased amount of mana capable of nourishing the mana-circuit.
If this kept on going, he'd have to take an entire day of extremely high-quality mana to get a measureable change in any way.
It would not be pleasant, to say the least, but if it were his destiny, he would fight it to the bitter end, even if met with a phyrric victory.
And that wasn't special, Beyern was almost entirely certain anyone with some ambition would endlessly try to increase that mana circuit size, along with their mana pool and mana regeneration, though the latter two aren't common knowledge.
But being of a higher rank in the mages' guild would allow him to get those methods, which is a big reason as to why he was stomaching that brokerage fee. Because to be applicable to for a rank up, you need to both; do a bunch of quests and have a class title associated with that rank.
So, of course, after he did enough work, he could get the 'Novice rank' in the guild, and have more things made available to him, especially some spells outside of magic bolt, the one he saw another child learning at the orphanage, being taught by Simmons.
He was still not from some rich family with a huge background, not having learnt a thousand spells or something in his youth. Which was a shame really, he'd love to be rich.
-----
'Why does this feel more like a chore than a battle?' He off-handedly thought as he pulled out his sword from the newly created carcass' neck 'I expected this to be... Frightening.'
He knew he was calmer than most, but for people to call battle 'A battle of nerves' was clearly an exageration, he had- At worst- felt a slight tightening in his chest.
Which he felt for the first time when the caravan was attacked by those birds. He still didn't know their name actually, he mused that he should go back and kill more of them if their parts were valuable.
But that was a plan for a later date, when he had {Mana-concealment} trained up to 10-star.
He smiled while taking out the prepared condensed mana in his mana pool, decompressing it and turning it into the strings he needed.
With the extremely smooth creation that Beyern had done more than a hundred times by now- Since he could just recycle the mana and do it over and over again- He created a joint node.
And decided against doing multiple today, to be totally honest, he was just lacking mental power at the moment, but it was still increasing at it's rapid rate; 100.32 right now.
He spellify-ed it and started to lay out more strings just like his first attempt at making undead, then started to make joint nodes at different places where rotation was necessary.
The jaw, the neck, the back, the knees, the heels, ect. With every attempt, it becoming a bit easier, a bit quicker, his rapid progress showing once more.
He quickly anchored everything and then turned it into a linkage, you definently want all the mana to be able to move the corpse, instead of the corpse moving the mana.
Then about 2 mp of compressed 1:5 death mana was pushed into the creature's heart, but not dispersed, which was then quickly anchored and then linked.
Then the links were all turned to spells along with all the non-aspected mana strings, but then the death mana was let go, off to do it's own thing.
But it was all good, Beyern had prepared it in a way it would do what he wanted anyways, and you could tell from the twitching of the corpse along with it's visable decay.
It slowly stood up, Beyern supported it's movements as much as he could, but sadly... the linkages got in the way, and every movement was far to slow to allow for the act of walking without it falling on it's side.
The decay was also concerning, oh- And it had lost the support of it's death mana in under a few seconds.
'Well, it works, somewhat. If my mana conduit increases size then I could probably supply it for about half-a-minute. Maybe using {Mana-infusion} would increase efficiency?' He pondered silently, the mana skeleton was still being maintained, and it seemed the linkages were still around too- For everthing except the heart's death mana.
It was confusing, just a bit in all honesty, but still confusing. Did only the death mana in the heart get used up? If he put more death mana in it, would the undead construct start walking with it's death-fueled body?
It was very intriguing, interesting.
He took more death mana, just a bit for a test; Around 0.5 mp.
It worked, a few twitches occuring, but not enough death mana was around for proper walking it seemed.
'How interesting,' He thought with a small smile 'To turn a corpse into a construct under my control... How interesting' He chuckled slightly, choosing to look at the four notifications that had appeared.
