Custard Face: Wait.
He grabs my hand before I can pick up the bag.
Mia:...!
This is the first time he's touched me. I look at him in surprise.
Custard Face: I was just kidding.
Mia: Oh.
That's a relief, but...
Mia: Um, your hand...
Custard Face: Ah, sorry.
Mia: It's nothing.
'It's nothing' my ass! My heart's beating so fast!! He lets go of my hand.
Mia:...
His heat immediately disappears from my it. I look at my hand in disappointment. I wish he hadn't let go.
Custard Face: You haven't eaten dinner yet, have you?
Mia: Nope.
Custard Face: Care to join me?
Mia: Sure.
Yuss! He invited me! Hah, I guess it takes very little to make me happy. I follow after him into the cafe. We take a seat near the window.
Custard Face: What would you like to eat?
I look at the menu.
Mia: Hmm, something light would be nice. Oh, this looks good.
He follows my line of sight to see a small picture of chicken and crisps. It's their take on the famous 'fish and chips' by switching out the proteins and the potato fries with healthier, baked veggies.
Custard Face: That does look good. You're pretty fitness conscious, huh.
Mia: Kinda.
Obviously, I hate greasy stuff and never leave my house without completing my yoga routine; after all, I eat a lot of sugary garbage. A waitress takes out orders and leaves. He ordered the same thing I did.
Custard Face: So, how's everything going on with you?
Mia: Me? Well, nothing out of the ordinary.
Nothing out of the ordinary? You just met your ex- crush's sister and told that you wouldn't mind talking to him sometime! My inner voice mocks me again. Ugh, shut up, Mini Me.
Custard Face: You're not being yourself today though. You can tell me if something's happened, you know.
Mia:..!
I guess Naomi was right, I AM easy to read. I can't really tell him that am self-conscious about being around him since I have feelings for him but, it's nice to know that he'll lend me a ear. Somehow, I want to tell him everything. I'll just keep it vague so he doesn't know the real deal.
Mia: Well, you see, I recently realized that I had long gotten over the guy I used to have feelings for so long; I like someone else now. Plus, I got to know that he lives in this very city too so chances are that I might bump into him. How do I face him when I do?
He goes silent for a while then, finally opens his mouth .
Custard Face: Did that guy know that you had feelings for him?
Mia: Yes, and that's the difficult part!
Custard Face: Have you been in any relationships while you still had feelings for him?
Mia: I've been on a few trial dates but, never in a relationship.
Custard Face: Then, what do you feel guilty for?
Mia:..!
That's true, why? There's no reason for me to. But, the matter concerning the origin of my feelings for the man in front of me still troubles me. Noticing discomfort on my face, he dodges the topic slightly.
Custard Face: So, your trial dates, who blew them up?
He wears a teasing smile on his face.
Mia: Er, I think it was mostly me.
Custard Face: You? How so?
His eyebrows perk upwards.
Mia: I guess all of them asked me out because they were interested me but when they found out how much of a klutz I was in real life, they never got in touch later. However, sometimes I wonder if it was me who didn't try hard enough.
I say with a self deprising smile.
Custard Face:... I don't think it's your fault.
Mia: What?
I look up at him in surprise.
Custard Face: If they were really interested in you, why would they leave you for such a petty reason? That means they weren't looking to be in a relationship with you in the first place.
Mia:..!
The expression on his face says it all; he's concerned about me. That makes me feel bashful. While we both are absorbed in staring into each other's eyes, the waitress sets our food down on the table.
Waitress: Enjoy your meal.
And with that, she leaves.
Mia:.. Huh, this smells nice!
I make my worst attempt of switching topics yet.
Mia: Enough about me now; tell me something about yourself too.
Custard Face: About me?
Mia: Mmhm, so do you like, have someone you like?
I nonchalantly ask him, curious for reasons unkown.
Custard Face: Yes.
Mia:..!!!
He already has someone he has feelings for? My heart aches.
Mia:... Have to confessed to her yet?
I timidly ask with a heavy heart.
Custard Face: Not really...
Damn, that's a relief; I don't think anyone would be able to reject him. However, my relief doesn't last long.
Custard Face: I proposed.
Mia:..!!! What?!
He proposed marriage to her?!
Mia: S-So, you're getting married, huh.
He isn't wearing a wedding ring so I guess they're engaged. Is he a two-timer?! If he's already engaged to someone, why does he spend time with me as though he's single? But if he was, he wouldn't tell me. Could it be that she refused?
Custard Face: I don't think so... it was a long time ago.
The sadness on his face is indescribable. So she did reject him.
Mia: Are you still in touch with her?
Custard Face: For the most part.
Mia:...
I could over get Jason because we lost contact but, in his case it would almost be impossible to bury his feelings for her. That means that I don't stand a chance. My heart hurts, so much that I have to try my best not to cry.
*Rumble*
I look outside to see that it's raining... hard. I guess it's true what they say; when it rains, it pours. And I'm not talking about the actual rainfall outside but the tsunami of emotions inside me.....
