Campsite

** Author's note: The main plot of the series is about to start. I would like to know if you'd like more of these extra stories with Damian like chapters earlier or would you like me to stay strictly to the main plotline? I am thinking of eventually making his own arks while he would help the group in their stories as well. Well, let me know what you guys think. I'll read everyone's opinion and decide. For now though, I am inclined with the later as you guys might not like the extra stories. Or am I wrong, and you liked the earlier chapters? If you did, do show me some appreciation and give leave some power stones here. Well then, all said, let's continue with the story. **

After a few miles on road, they took a short turn towards an unpaved road. Few minutes later, they could see few vehicles standing at the turn. Seeing several vehicles approaching, several people gathered on the road. People got out of their vehicles and ran towards their friends and families. The woman in the RV ran towards another that seemed like her sister and hugged her. The man on the side walked proudly to his wife and children who embraced him with joy. Everyone was so happy, and soon, they called Rick, who was stepping out of the RV, to meet everyone. One look at the people and his expression changed. Tears filled his eyes, and not a word came out. He looked at the woman and child a little far away talking to each other. The child suddenly turned towards him with confusion that soon turned into joy. He ran towards Rick, and just said a word, "Dad", and came to the embrace of Rick who was still in ecstatic shock. He looked ahead and saw the woman, supposedly his wife, came running as well, embracing both her husband and son. The atmosphere turned one of joy and everyone looked happy to see the family reunion. After they rejoined their friends and families, they proceeded to go in. Damian looked around the camp. It was lightly guarded with some cars and few handmade wooden fences. Not too much security, thinking the place was isolated, they must have thought they didn't need them. 

"Who's the new guy?", the girl named Amy asked her sister Andrea. "We saw him out on the road. Rick asked him to join us", Andrea said as she looked at the man. "You brought an unknown person to the camp? He can be dangerous", a man beside his wife and child said looking at Damian suspiciously. The woman looked at her husband and said, "Ed, don't say that. They brought him here to help", but the man looked at his wife with disgust and fury and walked away while staring at his wife. The wife looked at the rest and smiled a little before following him. Damian understood her situation and felt a little uncomfortable. "Who are you, son?", an old man called Dale asked while holding his rifle on the shoulder. "My name is Damian Wolfe", Damian said. 'Oh', the group gasped as one man said, "You are the guy we talked to through the radio". "And you must be Officer Walsh", Damian said as he offered him a handshake. Shane grabbed his hand and said, "You found the camp. Sorry, we didn't know you. So, I couldn't tell you where we were. I hope you understand", Shane apologized honestly. "I do. I would've done the same if I were in your shoes. You did good not revealing it". Both looked at each other and smiled for a short instant. "Alright so, we'll have to prepare dinner for two more people from now on", the black woman said jokingly while others laughed at the jab. "Oh, did you find any supplies in the city?", a man looked at the asian man called Glenn and asked. "Uh... about that, we didn't find any supplies there. We instead got stuck and were lucky to come out unscathed", Glenn replied. "So, you guys just went there to h-", "Jim, let us take a breath, man", T-Dog interrupted him before he could finish. Damian thought for a while and decided to see the camp first.

The night fell and people sat around the bonfire after eating dinner where Rick started telling his story of how he woke up from coma in a hospital and suddenly felt like he was thrown off in a different world. He found his wife and son were gone while the world had turned to hell. So, he went out searching for them. He thanked Shane for looking after his family in his absence which he responded in good faith. The faith of this man in his family was so strong, it made Damian admire him a little. But more than that, he felt happy seeing Carl right now, who was happily listening to his dad while sleeping on his lap. Then everyone started telling what happened in the city, before Amy asked about his journey. "I was with the military when the pandemic started. We were returning to a temporary campsite but when we did, everyone had turned into walker. So, we drove out of there and found someplace to stay for a while. Then after a few days, we went back to see if anyone had come for us but no one did. We waited for days there before some bad guys showed up and attacked us. We retaliated and killed them, but the walkers had entered the camp. So, we ran again. And when then I was gone for a while and when I came back, I saw that my friends had left me thinking I would not return. But I thought they might come back. So, I went back to the camp and stayed there for a while until I gave up and decided to leave". There was another fire lit in the side, where Ed and his family sat alone. He suddenly put the brick in the fire which made it brighter. Shane called out to him to pull that wood out, but he denied. Watching that he was undermined there, Shane stood up and asked him again as a warning which he caught on and asked to do it himself, trying to act tough. Observing Ed, Damian felt nothing but disgust. The world had gone to shit and there are some people who still didn't know what could happen to them if they don't change themselves. The group soon separated to go sleep in their own camp. Glenn offered Damian his tent saying it was big enough to accommodate two people which he happily accepted. 

Early in the morning, Glenn woke up and went out while Damian noticed him leave but went back to sleep again. But after some time, the sound of people talking outside broke his sleep once more. He decided he should wake up now and walked out. He washed his face while others were doing their own stuff. He soon walked towards the group to tell them about the food supply he had on him. But just as he took a few step towards Shane, everyone heard a loud cry of children from the forest. He as well as others quickly ran towards the sound and saw Carl and Ed's daughter, Sofia running towards them. Few of them caught the frightened kids and asked what happened to which Carl pointed to the direction where he came from. Damian immediately ran towards the direction followed by Rick and others. Soon they came to the scene where they saw a walker eating on a deer which was shot with arrow by someone before. Damian looked at the group which looked like they didn't know what they should do. The walker suddenly turned around and stood up looking at the people, particularly Rick who was the closest. As he stepped towards him, Rick swung the rod in his hand and hit the walker on the chest pushing it a bit further. Watching him attack first, others soon joined him and started hitting the walker with the tools they had in their hands. Damian looked at the scene as if they were some gang members beating up an innocent person in a roadside until Dale severed its head from the body with his axe. They sighed with relief that they had taken down the walker. "Seriously guys?", Damian said looking at them, who in return looked at him not understanding what he implied. "What?", Rick said looking at him in confusion. "You guys, he is a walker. He will only stop when you kill its brain. You guys were hitting him here and there like he would feel some kind of pain and stop moving", Damian said as he brought out his knife and approached the walker head. "It's still alive, in a sense. See, they don't die until you stab or shoot the head", he said as he stabbed the head and the head stopped moving. "Oh god...", Amy who was looking at the scene with her sister from behind the bushes ran away in disgust. "We know that. It's just we got panicked-", Dale tried to explain but Damian interrupted him. "Sir, panic is not good. Not when you are living in a group as large as this. If by accident, any one of you got bit, it could've turned bad". "That's why we attacked in a group", Morales said. "Look. What I am saying is that panic invites danger to not only you but your families as well. It's good that you guys know they are dangerous, but they are also slow and dumb. One of you can easily handle few of them alone if you know how. But if you don't know how to kill them quickly, it would mean life or death when there is more than one walker around you", Damian clarified. Shane nodded looking at Damian while Rick was about to say something but before that, a sound came from the bushes in the forest. The group feared there could be more walkers approaching so, they prepared themselves to attack.

But their tensions were in vain as a man with crossbow came out of the forest bushes. Looking at the deer and the walker, he got furious and started kicking the dead walker on the ground in fury. He asked if they could eat the deer, but everyone opposed the idea. He then said he bought squirrels and went ahead towards the camp. As he started calling for his brother, Merle, Shane asked him to listen as Rick told him that they had left his brother in a building's rooftop back in Atlanta. He tried to attack Rick in fury, when Shane subdued him with chokehold and Rick explained the situation. Then he declared that he was going back to bring him back. While many people didn't say anything, his wife looked at him in disappointment for some reason. Shane also questioned Rick on his decision, but Rick had already made his mind and told him that he has guns lying on the street. He asked if someone was willing to accompany him and Daryl to the city while looking at Glenn, who after a short moment unwillingly nodded. T-Dog also raised his hand to tag along as he was the main reason for the whole fiasco. Rick looked at Damian and asked if he would accompany them, but Damian denied the request saying, he's going to fortify the camp by putting up more fences and spikes. Rick agreed that the camp needed fortification and left with the group in the RV.
