"How are we supposed to tell him in this condition?!" Gwen hissed and Davina released a tired breath, massaging her temple as she stood outside the library and wondered why all the worst things had to happen just now.

"Simple: we don't tell him. And anyway, he won't recognize us either."

Gwen bit her lip, rubbing her arms as she looked toward a shelf and hoped for the best for both of them.

"I heard you met somebody back in the Court."

She didn't bother turning around this time, releasing her lip with a small groan. "Kai can't keep his mouth shut for even one minute can he?"

"No, he can't." Davina scanned her nails with a glare. "But your mood speaks louder than your words."

Rolling her eyes, she turned to leave the library when Davina stopped her by placing her hand on her shoulder. "Don't let Eva anywhere near this place. I can't predict her reaction when she witnesses something she isn't meant to see."

Gwen shook her head in reply, leaving the door open behind her with Davina's eyes on her back as a small flicker flashed in those monotonous sharp orbs.

'These kids...'

'More like idiots.'

Gwen walked down the staircase, that forgotten chasm in her chest widening abruptly as she instantly regretted the decision of ever going to the Court in the first place. Had she not seen that bastard, none of this would've ever happened.

'He's the biggest asshole in Salvador!'

Meanwhile, her cousin was unable to do anything and Eva had gotten bedridden the next day. The only question running through her head was: What more could go wrong?

"Gwen! Mind getting Asher's files from Theo's room?" Kai's annoyingly loud voice vibrated in her ears and she scowled, pursing her lips and not feeling like retorting something nasty back.

Her feet quickly led her to her cousin's room and she pushed it open, stepping in softly. Going to the drawers beside his bed, she opened them and her eyes caught sight of a beautifully structured origami bird sitting in the farthest corner.

Gwen held it in her palm, her brows narrowing as she wondered where he had gotten it from. It didn't seem like something he would've bought and he couldn't have made this. Right?

'Oh!'

'Now wait a damn minute...'

Jaw beginning to fall, she hurriedly placed it back in its previous location and scolded herself for meddling in others' business without them wanting to.

Opening the next drawer, her lips parted open in surprise as she straightened up to gain a better view of the sight. In front of her were various medicines and magical antidotes which she instantly recognized. They were used to regain strength back in a minute, mostly used in wars or battles. They had a whole stack of them in the infirmary and she had seen Kai and Sebastian using them abundant times when they were bleeding profusely.

Picking up a strange-looking bottle, she sniffed it and her eyes enlarged further on. This was the liquid people poured on their open wounds to stop bleeding but that was its only use. It didn't make it hurt less nor did the scars or injuries fade away automatically especially if they were inflicted by dark magic.

'What does he use these for?'

Bending down, she opened the bigger drawer beneath it and finally found what she was looking for. Collecting all the papers, she cast a final perplexed glance toward the medicine cabinet and then walked out.

"Don't Fae's heal themselves automatically? Especially if they are like complete, powerful dominants?" she asked Kai, passing him the papers which he took with a small nod.

"Not always. Dominants can be injured too, how did you think Alex died then?" he scanned the documents one by one, keeping them away on the nearby table as he looked through them carefully.

"What can be so strong as to injure somebody so powerful?" Or who?

Kai paused. "If their energy is depleted, dominants are just normal Fae's like us with only a few extra powers. Why are you asking though?"

Ignoring his last question, Gwen inquired further on, "Why would somebody deplete a dominant's power if they didn't want to kill them?"

Holding all the papers in his muscled arm, he turned toward Gwen fully. "To store their power. Experiment with it and make more deadly weapons to destroy others easily. Asher's father was the one who first began that process, curse him wherever that bastard is."

Gwen gulped, suddenly worrying for her cousin's well-being more than ever. She wondered why Theo had stored so many potions for energy repletion when in fact, he didn't need them because of his outlandish strength and powers. Unless he was badly wounded, it was completely unnecessary to apply or drink such medicines.

"Still not going to tell me the cause of your inquiries?" Kai asked with a small grin and Gwen scowled, slapping him lightly on the arm.

"Did you deliver him food yet?"

"I was just going to though it's likely that he'd trash it all," he responded and Gwen lowered her head, releasing a tired breath out from her lips.

"What do you think was the trigger this time?" she whispered and Kai tightened his jaw, glancing at her momentarily.

"Worry. Frustration? Angry at himself for letting this happen in his territory." Kai suggested and shook his head. "You know how he gets. Guilt consumes him from within even when something's not his fault."

"I think Eva should know about this."

This time, Kai faced her completely. "And what did Davina comment about this idea?"

Gwen sighed once again. "Lily ordered yesterday that she was supposed to rest and relax as much as possible. Too much shock or panic could be life-threatening to her heart and powers."

"Well, Lily can't be wrong. She's the best physician we have out there, though I didn't know her trip from the human world was cut short," stated Kai and she tilted her head in thought.

"She had gone there to search for a plant that Davina needed to make the truth-telling serum. We all knew that it wouldn't take too long considering her abilities."

Kai shuddered at her words and Gwen giggled. "What? Scared?"

"I could sprout my deepest secrets with just a drop. It ain't funny when you think about it, Gwendolyn!"

Gwen only chuckled, walking away and leaving an anxious male behind.
