Surviving is harder to achieve than dying the way you want

Matthew wondered how he got to this point. When his world ended up having an apocalypse, he knew what happened, like it was yesterday. Even if it happened two weeks ago. The seventeen year old boy was sitting on his desk, his classmates making noise, as his class teacher's voice was drowned out by the collective number of students that were fighting about being kept on campus till six in the evening, as they all wanted to be in their various homes. It didn't matter to the brunette, as he stayed in the dorms on the school's premises. He had no one to go with, maybe his roommates but they were all preparing to stay with their parents. The teacher had a buzz cut, wearing a light blue shirt with white stripes decorated over with it as he wore dark brown pants, his jacket placed on the top of his chair, as he sat down and observed his students all at different paces, as he looked at Matthew as he was seated at the back of the class, positioned near the window, as he was absent from the conversation.

"Teacher, this isn't fair. The other students have gone home, how come we can't go home?" One of Matthew's classmates asked, while Matthew's focus was on the ground, outside the class. The brown haired boy was lost in thought, before he was suddenly snapped out of it as he heard something that shouldn't be near an actual school.

Grrrrr.

The hair on his neck stood up, as he shivered in fear, as he quickly stood up, alerting the teacher and classmates, as they stopped arguing. "Something wrong, Matthew?" His teacher asked, the male teacher looked at him in worry. As Matthew wasn't one to bring attention to himself, even when necessary. Matthew was contemplating whether to tell him or not, he rather be called crazy than what he heard to be true.

The rest of his class didn't seem to have heard the sound, Matt wanted to say something, warn them but he was too late. The sky had darkened rather quickly, so the night stands positioned around the campus was turned on, Matt could clearly hear footsteps approaching the class, despite the classroom being on the third floor of the building.

Crack.

He got a glimpse of a shadow, as it collided with the glass of the window, the pieces shattered and scattered around the floor, as everyone froze as they looked at it. The creature looked similar to a wolf, had white luxurious fur, brown eyes but what was in its mouth was distracting everyone. A head was being carried in its mouth, before it opened its mouth, placing the head in its mouth, as they all saw the dead look in the head, before more than half of the skull was crushed in the wolf's mouth and blood sprayed everywhere. They heard it gulp the head down, they were all consumed with fear. The wolf took its time, to lick the blood off its claw. There was no warning, as the wolf attacked the closest person to it. A female student, as it ripped into her flesh, ignoring her cries as it sunk its teeth to her neck and tore the skin off, completely muting her, as she struggled to deal with the pain.

"Run now!!" The teacher announced, after snapping out of it as he looked away from the gruesome scene and jumped out from the window, the remaining students followed his lead as they either ran out or jumped out of the class. Matthew didn't run out, as he quickly hid in the nearest cabinet in the classroom, filled with all the confiscated snacks, that was taken from his classmates by all the teachers on the campus. He remained quiet, the sound of flesh being torn off was still loud in the air, making his heart beat uncontrollable. Tears threatened to spill from his eyes with his hands covering his mouth to prevent himself from being found out. Matthew didn't know how long he stayed in the cabinet, but he knew he stayed there for hours, as he eventually came out of the cabinet, as he was met by the sunlight. He would have thought he had a nightmare, if he didn't see the chewed up corpse of his deceased classmate. He looked at the window and gasped in fear, as the classmates that he watched flee from the classroom looked similar to the corpse behind him, chewed up, beheaded or had their bones piercing through their flesh with a dead look in their eyes. The only body he didn't see was his class teacher, Matt looked up at the watch and noticed it was barely seven in the morning. He grabbed his backpack and put all the snacks in it. As he quickly left the class, he held his breathe, as the smell of blood was fresh in the air, he also avoided looking at the corpses to prevent himself from throwing up.

The entrance of the school gate was no different from the scene on campus, Matthew didn't have time to reflect on the situation, he could already tell that end for humanity was near. All he had to know was if he wanted to survive to the very end or kill himself to avoid getting killed in a brutal manner, as one was more achievable than the other and it was definitely suicide. He couldn't dwell on the thought for long, as he stumbled upon a motorcycle and its rider who had both of his hands chopped off and possibly bled to death, since the road had dried up blood on it. He approached the motorcycle as he looked at the dead rider, moving his hands to his face and closed them for him as he muttered. "Rest in peace."

He removed the body from the motorcycle, struggling a bit but was able to remove it at the end, as he took the helmet and placed it on his head, sitting on the vehicle as he mentally thanked his best friend for learning how to ride a bike, as he turned the key and started the motorcycle, as he stepped on the accelerator and rode off, as he hoped at least he could find his best friend in the midst of all the bloodshed, he laid his eyes upon.
