In an instant, the rogue raised his left hand, and a cloak made of shadows suddenly spread out.
Even though Duke had never seen it before, he understood that this must be the rogue's signature move, "Shadow Cloak!" This skill had a 90% chance to block spell damage in the game!
Damn it!
How high was this rogue's level!?
The rogue's earlier screams and rolls had all been an act!
While others treated life as a play, Duke now found himself in a play that mirrored life.
Duke could almost foresee that he was going to die again. At this moment, he had already made up his mind that even if his corpse were desecrated and guarded, he wouldn't resurrect himself.
It was only then that Duke realized with shock that his Soul Power was still at 98, but his Humanity had dropped to 88%.
"What's going on!?" Duke shouted in his heart.
The system sprite appeared: "Um, since you were killed while suffering great pain and resentment, this kind of death will cause additional loss of Humanity."
"What can I do?"
Fortunately, the system sprite didn't respond with anything cruel like 'deal with it.' Instead, it seriously answered: "If you can kill your enemy, you should be able to regain half of the lost Humanity."
Revenge isn't empty!
Without revenge, it's 10%; with revenge, it's 5%. There's no need to ask which option to choose.
But the prerequisite was being able to take revenge!
Duke felt like he was about to burst into tears.
Time seemed to freeze, but just at this critical moment, Duke suddenly extended his left hand and clenched it. The flames that should have been wrapped around the rogue jumped to the tip of the rogue's nose and suddenly burst into a blinding light.
It was like setting off a flashbang in someone's face!
The intense light couldn't be blocked by the thin eyelids.
No matter if it was pay-to-win dog eyes or any other rogue vision, all would be blinded!
Because of this slightly absurd flash, the rogue subconsciously stopped his "Shadow Cloak."
It was as if a scorching hurricane swept through. The rogue, along with his clothes, exploded violently. Even the surrounding trees suffered. Countless wood chips, stones, and fragments of human flesh expanded and scattered in an instant, then fluttered down like fireflies dancing in the sky, withering away.
At the moment of the explosion, an almost imperceptible speck of light flew out from the rogue's destroyed body and shot into Duke's chest.
Of course, Duke didn't notice this anomaly because his own eyes had also been affected.
"Ouch!"
Everything happened so fast, like lightning striking before one could cover their ears. Duke had blinded the rogue's eyes, but his own eyes were also tearing up from the bright light. The only thing he could be sure of was the system sprite's prompt.
"Congratulations, you have killed an unknown level rogue, and you have gained 8,800 Soul Experience points." Despite the pain, Duke finally knew that the rogue must have taken the full force of the "Pyroblast."
"Here, this is a handkerchief soaked in water. Place it on your eyes, and you should feel better." A familiar yet slightly strange, pleasant female voice reached his ears.
Duke instinctively took the handkerchief and pressed it against his eyes, allowing the dizziness induced by the bright light to subside. Suddenly, he snapped back to reality.
Wait a minute! Something seemed off!
Duke removed the handkerchief and struggled to open his eyes, the aftermath of the bright light making his vision uncomfortable. With great difficulty, he saw a pair of Hyjal Peaks wrapped in green armor.
Damn, it was Alleria!
What was going on?
How did Alleria end up here?
However, knowing it was her, she probably wouldn't harm anyone.
According to the original history, Alleria would become a universally recognized Alliance hero in the world of Azeroth, an embodiment of courage and justice. She first made a name for herself in the war between the high elves and the trolls, and later played an active role on the front lines of the Alliance's resistance against the orc invasion...
Although he didn't know why Alleria was here, Duke visibly relaxed and slumped to the ground.
Duke was relieved, but Alleria was not.
"Hey, you're weird. What do you mean, just one glance at me... and you collapse? Do you know who I am? Hey!" Alleria stood with her hands on her hips, looking like an angry female raptor about to lash out.
"I... my mana is in chaos... let me catch my breath..."
Duke wasn't sure if he had just defeated a higher-level enemy, but he was definitely not feeling well.
"Hmph!" Alleria was annoyed, but seeing the young human's terrible condition, she eventually chose to remain silent.
In this world, the high elves were the masters of magic. Alleria, born of the prestigious Windrunner family, had been trained as a ranger and hunter, but she had spent thousands of years surrounded by mages. She immediately recognized that Duke was on the verge of a magical backlash.
For a few minutes, Alleria had almost thought Duke would be killed by the backlash. Miraculously, she saw him doing something many trained mages couldn't - he was orderly guiding the elements within his body back into place, calming their flow.
This was not something a magic apprentice should be able to do.
Moreover, Duke was only an apprentice in name, as he had not even received half a day of systematic education.
Finally, Duke managed to open his eyes and looked at the beautiful yet dangerous high elf hero before him. He sighed, "Alright, when did you start following me?"
Alleria smiled, her beauty still captivating even in the darkness, framed by her seemingly glowing golden hair.
"Since you escaped from that boar."
"You've been following me the whole time?"
Alleria was not ashamed to admit, "I lost track of you for a while at the riverbank. When you reached Northshire Abbey, I caught up again."
So, she saw everything!
Duke suddenly felt like dying.
Duke suddenly had a question, "You just watched as that guy attacked me?"
Alleria smirked mischievously, "Well, in front of me was a magic apprentice who had deceived the king of the forest, the renowned Alleria Windrunner. His Mirror Image spell was even more powerful than many high-level mages."
Duke was flabbergasted. Alright, his death and resurrection had been mistaken for a Mirror Image spell. That was a high-level spell only learned by level 80 mages in the game!
The only consolation was that since Alleria had assumed it was a Mirror Image spell, Duke didn't need to lie about why he had died and resurrected.
He didn't know how to explain such a high-end, extravagant resurrection method to Alleria.
That is all for now. Thank you to everyone who's stuck with me so far.
