As they walked out of the Twilight Forest, the sky came into view once again.
After enduring the torturous darkness of the Twilight Forest, they found solace in the jagged and windy path. They had been walking for two days straight and on the third day, they couldn't find a suitable place to camp because they were too close to Karazhan. With nightfall approaching, the ambush team settled for a simple overnight stay on the edge of a cliff.
On one side was a steep mountain wall, on the other, a seemingly bottomless cliff.
Lothar had no choice but to have the team of over two hundred people line up in a single file.
"If Sargeras sends his minions to attack us in this place, we're done for," Anduin said to Duke.
Duke smiled, "Would you run several dozen kilometers just to swat a mosquito?"
"If he really underestimates us to this extent, that would be great."
"He will, because Sargeras, even if he's fallen, is still a titan of creation. For him, it was already a great indignity to infiltrate into Medivh's body. He wouldn't bother to come after us."
The Titans! A divine race with godlike powers. Millions of years ago, the Titans formed the Pantheon and began their journey of creation. Sargeras was a Titan warrior responsible for defeating many evil creatures during the creation journey.
The Pantheon visited the planet of Azeroth, set up many laboratories, and created their own servants before setting a self-evolving command for the entire system and leaving.
Later, a group of exceptionally powerful parasitic creatures invaded the Titans' laboratory on Azeroth. They commanded the chaotic elements here and became the leaders of the planet, known as the Old Gods.
The Old God Legion grew stronger, and they not only ruled Azeroth but also infected many Titan creations and servants, turning them from inorganic to organic creatures, also known as the Curse of Flesh in later times.
Their downfall began with Sargeras betraying the Pantheon Council, creating the Burning Legion, and beginning his Burning Crusade to destroy the creations of other Titans.
It was because of Sargeras' Titan heritage that he was destined to be proud and arrogant.
Duke said slowly, "Arrogance breeds from the heart. When victory becomes a habit and one becomes powerful enough to crush all weaker beings, there is no room in the arrogant heart for any other opinions. For Sargeras, stealing Medivh's body, killing the guys in the Tirisfal Council, and using the orcs to do his bidding are already his limit. So, before entering Karazhan, we don't need to worry too much."
Lothar nodded, "I hope so."
Duke comforted Lothar, but he was still somewhat uncertain and secretly prayed that history would repeat itself with Medivh being defeated.
After all, his fate was closely linked with the Kingdom of Stormwind, and even the entire world of Azeroth.
Looking up at the stars, there was an unusual red light coming from the direction of the Swamp of Sorrows in the distance. This evil red light, even in the night, radiated a brightness that was a thousand times brighter than moonlight.
The red light and the midnight darkness were interwoven with each other, as if performing a war of erosion and plunder. The stars above the Elwynn Forest were dim, as if forced into a corner by a huge dark red shadow. The Stormwind Star in the northwest seemed like it could fall at any moment.
And all the hopes of the entire kingdom were on Lothar, Garona, and Duke, these three small meteors.
Will they be just a fleeting meteor or a new star that rises to the sky, shining brightly throughout the entire universe?
Duke didn't know.
In a daze, Duke fell asleep.
When he woke up again, it was already dawn. Yes! As agreed with Lothar, they would launch their attack at dawn.
As the group approached Karazhan, they were surprised to find that the radiant sunlight was rising from behind Karazhan, like the flames of dawn, dispelling the haze that lingered within the tower.
Lothar turned to Duke and Garona with a confident smile, "Is this a sign that we are about to dispel the darkness and bring light? It's a good omen, isn't it?"
Garona retorted, "I don't believe in luck. I only believe in my own strength. The strong will always win."
Anduin and Duke ignored this straightforward half-orc woman.
Instead, Duke instinctively asked, "Are we going through the front door or the back door?"
Anduin looked puzzled. 'The backdoor? You mean the platform for visitors to land their gryphons on? Come on, even though Medivh probably knows we're coming, we can't just waltz in on a group of gryphons, can we? Who knows if we'd be shot down like targets in mid-air?'
'No, not that backdoor.' Duke frowned. He wasn't sure how to explain that he knew there was a backdoor to Karazhan from the game.
But with over 200 people on Lothar's side, even though it was a planned assault, they couldn't just slowly make their way through the front door, could they? Even if Sargeras was a hibernating bear, he would be woken up by such a commotion.
Duke didn't know how Khadgar, Anduin, and Garona had easily made it to the top of Karazhan in "history", fighting Medivh along the way. All he knew was that the Karazhan in the game was big enough to get most first-timers lost.
Remember, that was just the game version of Karazhan.
In the real Azeroth world, where Elwynn Forest was magnified countless times, who knows how big Karazhan really was. From the outside, Karazhan was already massive, and the problem was that mage towers couldn't be described with science. The space inside mage towers was often much larger than what was seen, because they incorporated various spatial spells. And let's not forget that the owner of Karazhan was the stellar mage Medivh!
Now Medivh was the Medivh controlled by Sargeras, far from the Karazhan filled with ghosts that Duke was familiar with. The experiences of toppling bosses in the game were likely to be useless in this situation. It was better to avoid fighting with small bosses and go straight for the big one, Medivh.
'Follow me.' Duke knew explanations were useless, so he decided to lead the way.
A mage had many servants and followers, so outside Karazhan, there were many houses. However, all of these houses were now empty.
Duke led Lothar and the assault team, completely ignoring the front door of Karazhan and crossing the not-so-turbulent river on the right side of the front door. Then he pushed open the slightly ajar door of a three-story house and turned left, heading up the stairs. Before long, Lothar saw a bridge high off the ground. On the other side of the bridge was a sub-tower of Karazhan.
But there was a locked iron door in front of the sub-tower.
'Damn, how did you know?' Lothar looked at Duke in disbelief.
Duke shrugged. 'Well, here's the problem. I don't know how to pick a lock. I just came here to try my luck. Now we can go back to the front door.'
With a click, the sound of the lock being opened came from behind Duke.
Garona smiled. 'The lock is open, then what?'
Duke burst out laughing.
