Chapter 28 : Returning to Henry
*Mae*
Mae was very still as she awoke in the morning. Her room at her grandmother's house seemed the same. The room smelled the same, and the sun’s beams sparkled off the delicate crystals around the space. But the energy was different. Mae was different. She could feel her magic inside of her awakening to a different level of control.
The conversation with her grandmother had set a new tone for the future. It set off something darker in Mae and strengthened her understanding.
She lay in bed, quietly still, and called her magic lightly to the edge of her fingertips. It waited, swirling around, for a command. Mae glanced over to the nightstand and set the magic on a direct path. Without hesitation, the brush came at a perfect speed and landed in her hand. The corners of Mae’s mouth rose up on their own.
