Loss of Zeal

Back from their meeting , Lisy and Annalus headed into their boss's office for a debriefing.

"So how was the meeting ? "

Mrs. Collins asked curiously.

Mrs. Collins was a beautiful, elegant lady in her forties with a bob haircut and always dressed in a suit, she looked very imposing in her swivel chair.

"It wasn't bad. "

Annalus replied.

"Annalus, could you step outside for a moment ? I'd like to speak to Mrs. Collins privately."

"Of course, there's no problem."

Annalus said then left the office.

"What do you have that's so important to tell me Lisy ?"

"I'd just like to ask you if you can appoint someone else to organize this wedding ?Rose, for example."

"I have no doubt about Rose's talents, but this isn't just any wedding, that's why I didn't want to entrust it to just anyone, you're gifted Lisy you do wonders with your overflowing imagination, tell me why you want to give up organizing this wedding."

"To tell you the truth, I know the fiancé 

and the fiancée."

She said embarrassed.

"That's great ! I'm surprised I didn't know you knew Mr Jackson and Miss Shepherd, it's a good thing that you know them couldn't be better . I think the wedding planning will go smoothly I haven't told you everything, Mr Jackson has promised to be a shareholder in my company."

Lisy had never known this talkative side of Mrs.Collins.

"Our relations are not as good as you think madam."

"Why not ?"

Lisy wondered if she should tell her the real reason. 

"Mr Jackson is my ex boyfriend."

She said shyly preferring to tell her the truth.

"Are you joking ? You mean you've already dated a man as rich as Mr Jackson."

"Yes ma'am, but that's all in the past now."

She didn't want to go into details, she felt the need to protect her secret garden.

"What's the problem then ?"

"I'm not comfortable with this situation."

"Listen to me Lisy, you have Annalus to back you up, you know men aren't too involved when it comes to planning their weddings so the rare times you know he'll be there just send Annalus in your place. "

"I get it."

"I've given you a mission you must carry it out and I remind you that I'm your superior."

And now she was back to being the strict boss who made all her employees shake.

"Of course madam, I'll get to work as soon as possible.

"Good you can go now."

"Thank you madam."

She said as she left the office.

Lisy still couldn't believe what was happening to her, she patted her cheek to regain her composure it all seemed so surreal for her. 

The characters from her nightmares had returned. And the worst thing was that she had to see them almost every day now.

The scene of their mouths passionately entwined resurfaced in her thoughts and she couldn't help but still feel that heartache.

What a joke !

They had betrayed her and now they were getting married. So they hadn't regretted hurting her.

The last time they saw Trevor was  the night he had betrayed her. She was the one who should have been at his side planning their wedding, but he'd sold her dreams so he could take advantage of her naivety.

Handsome with an athletic build, Lisy found Trevor even more attractive, she could easily lose herself in his beautiful grey eyes.

Kim was the spitting image of her father, with a brown hair and grey eyes just like her father, anyone could make the link between them even a blind person. Lisy knew that her daughter didn't look like him and seeing her daughter's face every day reminded her of Trevor.

Lisy remembered the time she realized she was expecting a baby , it has been a mixture of emotions. She was scared, happy to be a mother and disappointed all at the same time. 

Her pregnancy had made the rounds of her small town. But despite , the prejudices and the mocking looks she had received Lisy hadn't had the idea of aborted even though her mother pushed her to do it.

"Lisy, are you alright ?"

Annalus asked as Lisy sat pensively in front of her computer.

She was indeed really confused and troubled because her day had turned into a joke in bad taste. 

"I just want to get some fresh air."

"Let's go then."

"Ok !"

Without waiting the two friends headed for the company exit.

Once outside, Lisy breathed deeply as she needed it.

As usual, the streets of Manhattan were crowded so they mingled with the passers-by.

"Jade was my best friend, although I wasn't rich like her we got on well together.

"Lisy don't worry, you don't have to talk now."

She stopped her noticing a tremble in her voice.

"Don't worry ! I said earlier that Jade and I were very good friends, my mother was Jade's dressmaker and her mother, and when she was celebrating her twentieth birthday, Jade organized a big party because her father was the mayor of our town. That's where I met Trevor, who had come to spend the holidays in Blanco at his aunt's residence which was very rich and  well-known in our town…"

The two colleagues ended up taking a seat on one of the park benches not far from Collins Event's.

"It was a love at first sight and in the days that followed we got more closer. It was the kind of crazy love we read about in fairy tales - no man had ever made me feel like that because he was my first love. Jade , wasn't really okay with our relationship and neither were my parents. But, Trevor didn't care that we weren't of the same social standing, he loved me as I was. He made me feel special, until I caught him red handed kissing Jade and worst of all he humiliated and insulted me before dumping me. I still feel the pain of their betrayal up to now. He showed me his true intentions just when I needed him most. I don't even know who I should hate the most between both of them. I was going to annonce him that we were about to have a child : the fruit of our love...".

Lisy couldn't help shedding tears after confiding in Annalus.

"He's Kim's father then."

Lisy shook her head positively to confirm her friend's conclusion and then wiped her tears away with her hand.

"That devil Jade, they lose nothing by waiting we're going to sabotage their marriage."

Lisy couldn't help laughing.

"Mrs Collins will sack us."

Lisy laughed.

"She won't know we're going to put laxatives in their wedding dinner, release rats in their reception hall."

The two friends burst out laughing.

"It's tempting your ideas but no."

"I see and how do you plan to do that ?"

"I don't really know but I don't want to see them again."

"Don't you think giving up or running away from them would make you weak ? You have to show them that you've moved on with your life like they did with you, show them that you don't care about them, anyway after the contract's up you won't have to see them again."

It was easier said than done, Lisy told herself inwardly.

Organizing this wedding was going to be more difficult than what she had expected, not because she doubted of her skills, but because it was really hard for her to see the man she had loved marrying her former best friend. She was jealous of their happiness. 

She was right to have fears and she had better steel herself with courage and temperament because the ghosts of her past were going to make life difficult for her.
