Kisses In A Ballroom

You look around. There are people everywhere, but you couldn't remember how you got here. Your sword was strapped to your side, and you had a fluffy ball gown. At least it forced these strangers to give you space. One man walked up to you, he had a sort of sunken face with wiry grey hair, and lots of jewelry, he offered his hand for you to dance. You shook your head. There must be some way out of this room. You didn't like too many people.

A man in the distance instantly caught your eye. He had big hair, and excellent eyeliner, and his costume had more effort than everyone in the room. He removed his mask and looked at you smugly, and disappeared as a pair waltzed. This was either a romance situation, or a 90's serial killer ending, because people do not just disappear like that.

You moved through the people only to see the same people once again. The ceiling seemed to expand forever no matter where you looked. You couldn't see the walls. You started panicking. There seemed to be more and more people. You tried to continue walking but you couldn't. You turned around trying to go a different way when you saw the stranger again watching you. But he was dancing with someone.

Prick. Everyone knows you are supposed to pay attention to your dance partner, not some random person.

You looked away trying to see where else you could go. How did you even get here in the first place? This must be some fever dream. You've had dreams like these before so it didn't surprise you.

Another man holds out his hand and bows. He had reddish brown hair and what looked like horns as part of his mask. His whole face was hidden. You declined it and continued to walk. Where was the exit. A hand brushed on your arm as everyone began moving towards you.

Okay. So 90's serial killer movie.

They pushed you around and began to laugh. You opened your mouth but found you couldn't speak. Even worse they seemed to grow taller. You looked closer and began to laugh, confusing them. You broke out into silent laughter.

Why were you taking this so seriously? It was a dream. You focused on them walking away. And they did. 'See it's just a dream' you told yourself.

The man appeared in front of you tilting his head. "Y/n" You heard from him. Of course he knows your name. He holds his hand out and you take it with no hesitation. You felt completely safe with him, as if you'd known him all your life. You began dancing, and he looked at no one but you. Music, that must have been playing the entire time, all became clear to you. It was beautiful. Enchanting even.

He spun you around, and every second you felt joy and happiness. Then a clock struck somewhere. Oh. A dream ends eventually doesn't it. Your face falls as you look away to try and see where it is. His hand goes to your chin and makes you look back at him. "Stay." It seemed more like a question than a demand. The chimes slowly grew louder and louder. You didn't know who began to move in first, but the next thing you knew, both of your lips connected and he was kissing you.

And you were kissing back.

His lips tasted like a peach, and when you separated, all of the other people seemed to be gone. Jareth. The strangers name floated through your mind. "Jareth." You spoke. You were startled by your own voice for a moment. Then you frowned. Jareth, peaches, you looked around wondering why this was all so familiar. A door appeared and he guided you outside. Billions of stars seemed to dance all in the sky, and drooping willows swayed in the wind. You saw a garden that vaguely looked like a maze.

A maze? The wall made you fall. Your shoulder began to hiss in pain and you look down at the water below. It showed Sarah and Ludo and Hoggle. How did you know their names? You looked back at Jareth and it slowly pieced together. He has your cousin, and you have to rescue him. And you kissed him?? You shake your head and back up towards the steps. "Y/n?" He asks looking at you carefully. "I'm sorry Jareth I...you're not real. This isn't real." You gestured to the castle and the sky. "And you never would..." You trailed off but he knew what you meant.

You rushed down the stairs and then jumped into the puddle and disappeared.

"I would." Jareth said as the ballroom, the garden, and the puddle disappears as well.
