Cameras couldn't be installed in the shower room, nor were there any prison guards present.

Recreation time was when inmates settled their scores, and fights could also break out during meals, but bizarrely, bloodshed incidents were the least common in the unsupervised, unguarded shower rooms. The reasons behind this were rather complex.

First of all, attendance at recreation was mandatory; it was a compulsory group activity that no one could skip. It was the opportunity for all inmates to gather on the playground.

The same applied to meals. Eating wasn't compulsory, but skipping one meal was manageable, two could be done, but by the third or fourth, hunger would become unbearable. Thus, the cafeteria was another place where everyone would assemble.
