Disturbance

\\

To say that Jack was displeased with the current situation, would be an understatement. Things had been going south the second he and his team had received the notice to leave planet-side. Conditions in his spacecraft - it was far too small to even call it a ship - were poor. It was jam-packed with electrical components, scanning equipment, and other devices that were constantly giving off little beeps and boops that would stop him from getting any kind of rest. He had been stuck in his undersized compartment for over two hours now because the other guys had said, 'you're the only one that hasn't had a shift yet.' That might have been a valid reason if he had any idea how to work any of this stuff. Of course, he couldn't say that, it was stated specifically in the Agency's policies that all active members must learn and know how to use such equipment. Jack thought it was all a waste of time when he was supposed to be learning it all, however, now that he had been shipped out to investigate some 'Spacial Disturbance,' whatever that meant, he was having second thoughts about his actions back in the training program.

One of the machines gave off a larger-than-normal beep. Rolling his chair towards the machine, he realized it was the newly installed radar, the only thing that he actually knew how to use, as the information had been drilled into his brain before he shipped out. Pressing a couple of buttons brought up the source of the beeping. The ship's radar was picking up an anomalous reading. The radar was a piece of a larger component referred to as the Navigational Computer or simply Navi-Computer for short. It operated and managed the crafts travel through Hyperspace. The radar was used to detect any kind of obstacles along the route. Asteroids, space pirates, and broken-down spaceships all fit into this category. Now, however, the Hyperspace lane they were traveling on just stopped. Not that they had reached the exit-point. No, it just stopped.

Jack sat there in sheer confusion. This shouldn't be possible. He might not have paid attention in his classes much, but even a child could tell you that this should not be possible. He smacked the machine around a bit to see if it would help. It didn't. He grabbed his communication device and tried to call his team. He tried to. It wouldn't turn on. The surrounding room went dark, all the flashing lights that had accustomed the beeps and boops had halted. It was now almost completely dark and silent. The only remaining source of light was the radar he had used earlier. It shone with an eerily silent light. He looked at the information displayed on it. His eyes widened. He hadn't realized it earlier.

[Eta: 1 minute 26 seconds] The sound of the constantly running vent above him stopped. A look of horror appeared on his face as he looked up. One of the sounds that he had wished would stop bothering him for hours on end had turned off. 'Th-That was the life support.' He launched himself from the chair and bolted towards the door. The electric button, standard on all Agency craft doors, had gone dark. He frantically looked around for anything that he could use. Anything to open the door, to contact the other crew members. Anything that would get him out of this situation. [Eta 10 seconds] An automated message interrupted his hysterical movements. He just stood there, eyes wide, completely stiff, not daring to move.

He was thrown to the ground the second the ship dropped out of hyperspace. He slid across the ground and collided with the wall. Pushing himself up off the ground, he could feel something was wrong. A kind of instinctual feeling, one telling him to run, run as far away as he could. The light on the radar finally went out as he stood looking around in the dark, trying to make sense of his situation. It was then that a gut-wrenching sound rang out, the sound of metal compressing and tearing. 'The hull,' was the only thought that Jack could think of as the distance between the floor and the ceiling had started to shorten. He could feel the floor pushing him higher and see the ceiling lowering towards him. He rushed across the rapidly changing floor and pushed at the door. Nothing. He felt himself fall against it and immediately felt the ceiling pressing down against the top of his head. He could feel the forces pushing at him, crushing him. A single scream of pain and fear left him before the vacuum of space swept it away.
