Huey's POV*
So... turns out I got something to fend for myself in this world after all... a cheat if you would call it.
And how does it work exactly? Well, that star which fused with me at that time gave me all the information I needed... rather conveniently at that.
This space was called the "star stream" and omitting all the fancy explanations it was basically a gacha system, honestly, it reminded me very much of Genshin impact, which was fair enough since, turned out the system took a form I would be familiar with to operate.
It goes like that, every birthday thus every year I will gain access to that place and have the opportunity to draw a random prize, it could be anything... the prize could seemingly come from all worlds and dimensions.
The possibilities were theoretically infinite... but what made me really happy about this arrangement was something else... not that the simple fact of having this cheat didn't rejoice me.
Do you know how in most of those works, the gacha system could give all kinds of useless and nonsensical stuff?
Well in my case, in return for losing the possibility of drawing useless after useless prizes, thus my ability to attempt multiple gacha in a relatively short time.
Every single gacha attempt of mine will result in something that would be useful to me, current or future. Meaning none of my gacha will be wasted.
Hm... I don't really know if that's necessarily better than the other option, but personally, I prefer it that way.
That may also be why the system became like that in the first place.
Now back to the present. I gained access to it while I was 20, and as for why precisely at that age and not earlier or later? I don't know, no explanation was given to me, so I choose to not uselessly ponder over it.
So I was saying, I gained it at 20, and now I am 22, meaning I already used the gacha 3 times.
The Dimensional chatgroup is something I obtained on my first try. I remember I was really choked and excited at that time.
However, I soon realized, that contrary to my expectation, it was really only that... almost, a dimensional chat group.
I could invite random people and people of my choice all over the multiverse and talk to them but that was all, nothing more... unlike in those fanfics, it was not a self-operating system that could send you on missions and give you rewards for completing them or anything.
Well, it was not really useless though. It came with a bunch of useful perks and two really neat abilities, one of which I still never exploited to this day.
Foreign language traduction.
So that any group member could communicate without any problem... the fun part is, as long as you were in the chat group, it would apply to you even if you were talking with people not in said chat group.
Video calls.
Nothing to add, says enough.
Stream.
There again, nothing difficult to understand.
Gift exchange.
We did try that one though, and it was awesome. It was easy to abuse that shit if you really wanted to get into the details.
And lastly world travel.
Any chatgroup members could go to another one's world with the permission of the one residing in that world.
This is the one I never tried... as for why? I was insecure.
Did I trust Jin? Yeah, we have known each other for years... 2 years exactly. But still, I never asked to go to his world, neither did he ask to come to mine.
We are both weak and world travel was some next-level shit. Believe me, as long as I don't obtain the minimum strength to protect myself from the issues that may arise from it, this nigga ain't going nowhere.
And the peculiarity of our worlds doesn't make it easier, I tell you.
Between god-like beings like Rulers, Monarchs, and Gods, devils, dragon Gods... Trust me, you don't wanna get noticed.
So, before I am at least S rank which we hypothesized along with Jin was around the same strength as an ultimate class devil. Trust that I am obediently sitting my ass in my homeworld.
Also no, I didn't tell anyone about my gacha system. No matter how much I trust someone, there are just some things that are best kept to yourself.
Well, enough about that. Let's talk about the other stuff I obtained from the gacha.
You know, with the first thing I obtained from the gacha, I put the bar of what could be described as useful really high.
But the second try, corrected that mistake of mine. The range of what could be described as useful was broad. Like really broad.
That is to say, I was really disappointed when I obtained a pair of G-19 with a switch along with some ammunition.
However, the disappointment didn't last long since I came to appreciate them soon enough.
While they may not be all that useful against any hunter above E rank. A man does love his guns after all.
Then, with the lesson learned from the second gacha, I anticipated the third while keeping my expectations fairly high but still reserved.
That time however I was not disappointed, for I obtained a batch of heart-shaped herbs. Yes the one from Marvel, consumed by the black panther.
I was in ecstasy as finally, I could take a step forward in my path to become something more than a normal human, even if not by much.
Consuming the heart-shaped herbs gives me physical abilities on par with E-grade hunters. If I had to guess, I would say I was around the peak of that grade.
But still, that was not enough, with only that, I couldn't become a hunter yet as although I had the physical abilities to, I still lacked mana, and the grade of a hunter was decided based on just that.
Also, even if I had to become one, no way in hell I was gonna be satisfied with just being E-grade, the minimum was a B grade for me so that I could at least have some opportunities and influences.
...
Oh damn, it already got that late? Lost in my head, he didn't see the time go by. Couldn't even get a word in.
Never mind let's get going... so he told himself and switched off his computer before putting on a jacket taking his keys and wallet then leaving his house.
He was first planning to go to a family restaurant he usually frequented but he ended up changing his mind and instead went for three large pizzas.
Of course, he wasn't gonna eat all of that by himself, as a matter of fact, he wasn't even going to eat now.
Taking a cab, he soon arrived at his destination, and after paying off the driver, he took the food with him toward a small unsuspecting apartment.
Standing before the door, Huey rang the doorbell and waited.
When he heard the familiar sound step rushing toward the door with his enhanced senses, he couldn't help but break a little smile.
The person on the other side arriving before the door didn't open it immediately but instead chose to be careful and peer on the other side through the peephole on the door.
But after confirming who it was, the door was quickly unlocked and flung open.
"Huey!" A clearly excited Jinah exclaimed with her signature bright smile.
"Hello Jinah, I see that you are doing good."
Much used to the adolescent girl's bright personality, Huey's smile grew a bit more before handing her the pizza.
"Here, take those. Also, is Jinwoo back yet?" He asked.
"Yes, everything's fine. As for my brother, he is in the living room on his phone."
With much-practiced ease, she took the pizzas as she answered, leading the way inside.
"That's great. Also, I may have been quick but I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to heat them up a bit, before eating." Huey added as he took off his shoes.
"Okay then, let me get that done." She was happy enough to not have to cook dinner tonight as honestly, she just didn't feel like it.
On that point, Huey's timing was impeccable... as always. Well, it's also not like he wasn't here at least two to three times a week.
As Jinah went ahead to get the food ready, Huey just leisurely walked to the living room, which wasn't much, especially compared to his own, but still did the job.
Their house wasn't that big frankly but it's not like that has ever been a problem for them since they were practically only two people living in it.
That's to say he was already in the living room, and as though the house was his own he just sat down on the couch next to the true man of the house.
"Hey Huey, glad you passed by." Jinwoo said with a smile as he dabbed him up.
"Spare me the talk man, how you doing?" Huey reciprocated while asking.
"Rough day, as always... but I am used to it."
Jinwoo, at this point, had been a hunter for three years already, and although he was still getting injured all the time much like his first dungeon dive, it was still getting a little better since he was gaining more experience over the years.
"The life of the weakest hunter huh... that's tough." Huey couldn't help but shake his head in understanding.
He wasn't going to tell him to stop or anything as he knew the man wouldn't listen. In fact, he didn't even think about directly helping the guy out financially even though he could.
Jinwoo wouldn't accept it, and he knew it, it was not even a matter of pride or anything but more about his own principles.
He wouldn't take anything given to him on a silver plate, anything he hadn't earned, he wouldn't accept. That's just the kind of man, Sung Jinwoo is.
"You don't say. Anyway, what's up with you?" Jinwoo asked, much curious about the recent development in his friend's life.
"Nothing much you know, I've been here and there, doing this and that. Oh, and I am thinking about writing a new book."
Huey said with a smirk, already knowing the other would be interested.
"Now we talking, what do you have in mind?"
And of course, he was, although he was not that far off in terms of money, Jinwoo still found it in him the financial strength to buy and read all of Huey's works. Refusing to have them given to him for free since he wanted to support his friend.
"I've been thinking, the title of this one will be... The world after the fall."
Contrary to my past life, in this world, the most popular works of fiction were those revolving around the hunter and dungeon themes. So although I could probably bring back more popular works like One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, and stuff, I instead choose to take a different path going with ORV, SLR, and the like.
And my current popularity as an author proved that I was right.
