Chapter 54
“I have to go.” James kissed him, then went to the bar chair and pulled his suit jacket from the back. He slid it on as he said, “I’ll check in when I can.”
Chris went to him and straightened his tie. “Be careful today.”
“I will.”
Ron’s phone buzzed with a text.
We’re on our way.
“They’re coming here,” Chris said.
“Great,” James said. “I don’t mean to run off, but I’d rather not cross their paths.”
“I can tell them to wait,” he said.
There were three knocks on the door.
“Or not,” Chris said as he shrugged.
Dylan said from the other side of the door, “It’s us.”
Chris went to the door and undid the chains and deadbolts, then opened it. Ron stepped in, followed by Dylan, who hugged Chris and squeezed.
After several moments, Chris said, “You’re crushing me.”
Dylan stepped back and looked him up and down.
“I should go,” James said.
