“What can be done about Skinner?” Dylan asked.
James let out a deep breath as he handed the photos to Dylan. “I’ll keep an eye on him and try to keep him from influencing the case,” James said. “Without real proof, I don’t feel comfortable going to Internal Affairs.”
Chris tensed up as Dylan stepped close to James. “I want your word that you’re going to keep my brother safe,” Dylan said.
James smiled as he glanced at Chris, then looked at Dylan. “You thought I was the killer, didn’t you?”
Dylan glared at him.
“You have my word, I’ll keep him safe.”
Dylan whispered, “Thank you.”
“You guys just have to be more careful,” James said. “Today was pretty sloppy.”
“Seriously, you would have arrested Chris over that?” Ron said.
“I stalled as long as I could,” James said. “I’m in this, too, don’t forget.”
Dylan said, “We can’t turn ourselves in.”
“Fine,” James said, “but cut Chris out of this.”
