Chapter 24
Chris climbed in, then James rested one hand on the door and the other on the side of the vehicle. “Don’t let your guard down,” James said. “Officer Cosnett here is going to be posted outside your house in case this isn’t over.”
Chris nodded, then James shut the door and stepped back. An officer standing in the middle of the street waved them on, so Cosnett cautiously pulled away from the curb as the reporters tried one last time to get their questions answered.
With a deep sigh, Chris relaxed into the seat and looked out the window at the neighborhood he didn’t want to see again. In reality or in his nightmares.

Chris stepped inside his house and locked the door behind him. Cosnett remained parked outside, which felt comforting, but he would’ve rather had James than Cosnett watching over him.
