Chapter 49: Be with You Day and Night

While speculations and theories were being tossed around outside, an exhausted Siren remained in the living room while the orphans were running around the house in a frenzy.

“I WANT BROWNIES,” Jacob screamed.

“We don’t have any in the house,” responded Hannah, who was picking up the toy trucks all the boys left on the floor.

“Why not? We’re orphans, not peasants!” Hillary said. “Miss Siren, can you make us some brownies today?” she asked the only adult in sight as all the kids turned their attention over to her.

Miserably, Siren was trying to cope with all of her injuries while her headache continued to grow worse. Holding her forehead in the palm of her hands, she tried to communicate with the children to the best of her ability. “Not today babies…” she said with a groan. “Oh by the Gospels it hurts…” she complained while stretching her body along the couch.

“What’s wrong Miss Siren?” Hannah asked. The kids all made their way over to Siren and crowded her out of concern.
