The 1st thing one must pay attention to when one decides to spend lots of money is how suspicious one appears, especially in my place.
How could a malnourished, poor young man who wears rags throw around gold dragons? Even though I couldn't be robbed since my coins were in system storage, my life could be lost with one wrong move.
So I decided to take care of that first.
The market was busy so I could lose anyone who followed me, I only needed to hide my face. I didn't have to worry about that since my face was dirty, I was sure no one could recognize me after a bath.
I took out a single gold dragon from my inventory and headed toward a store that sold outfits and clothes.
I didn't enter, instead chose what I wanted from outside while waiting for the store to become busier. Making my choices and seeing the owner was busy enough, I swiftly entered and picked up whatever I wanted, including a big leather bag that was for sale to carry the things.
The owner noticed me as his customers left and frowned, his hand going towards his dagger thinking I was a thief. I returned and before he could react threw the gold dragon on the table in front of him.
He looked down and was stunned. I didn't linger and walked out instantly.
"Wait!" He said and quickly stood up.
I had already chosen how to leave and blended into the crowd, quickly walking away. Any attention was dangerous at the moment.
A while later I left the city and headed towards the east. There was a stream there, I had seen it before entering the city.
I reached the stream and walked up till it was noon and no human could be seen. The city and castle were quite far but still visible.
After making sure my surroundings were clear, I threw away the rags and began washing in the stream.
Half an hour later, all the dirt and filth were washed away. I looked at my appearance in the water, bright amber eyes stared back at me along with light golden blonde hair and a rather plain pale face. Neither handsome nor ugly, just average. The combination of eye and hair color was eye-catching, however.
I sighed while feeling better, inwardly I was a little disappointed that I didn't look extremely handsome as I had expected.
I quickly dried myself off and put on the clothes I had gotten earlier. I checked my reflection in the stream. I wore a comfortable white tunic reaching my waist, a simple black cloak, brown pants, and boots. I looked clean and felt comfortable.
I was a completely new person, no one would recognize me as I was in case anyone knew the previous owner.
Feeling satisfied, I walked back to the city and reached there an hour later, on the way many plans formed in my head on what to do.
I was originally an ambitious person, and having the system amplified it more than a million times. But at the same time, I was extremely cautious. I wanted many things, but I also knew the more things I wanted to have, the greater the dangers.
And to face those dangers, I had to prepare accordingly. First I had to be able to survive the coming chaos of this world and then aim for higher things. The bare necessity was survival.
And to survive I needed power. I was not a power-hungry person, and in fact, I disliked living for power; Believing that there is more to life than that, things like love, meaning, beauty, knowledge, and evolution. But it is also an undeniable fact that without power, you can have nothing. Others will decide for you, strip you of your freedom, and work you to death if not kill you. Reality is often disappointing, especially for idealists.
To experience what you want, have freedom, and enjoy life, you must have power. And in this world, power meant many things and was influenced by lots of factors.
Wealth always being the most important in this world... Then it was knowledge, combat prowess, armies, influence and connections, the faith of the people, charisma and personal skills, and last but not least technology and dragons.
I wanted to have it all. Skills, knowledge, and combat could be learned, charisma could be trained; I had a few ideas for wealth, with wealth came connections and influence, and the others relied on the system.
Seeing as the system was my most important possession, I had to give it 1st priority. This meant using it in important locations was my most important task ahead.
Looking at the city in front of me, I came to a decision.
'I will stay here till the time I have singed in everywhere and no reward is given, then I will journey to King's Landing. And using my time here, I will amass as much wealth as possible. But I have to make sure to not cause anything major, my knowledge of the future must not become useless.' I thought and entered the city. Many projects in my head.
I acted the part of a traveling merchant and began asking questions, such as where everything was, etc. I bought a map of the city and the continent as I learned many important things I needed to know regarding the economy and political situation, where in the timeline I was, etc.
Dusk came, and I was already familiar with everything I needed, I could not control my hunger anymore so I went to an Inn to spend the night.
The Inn was supposedly the best in the city, I could faintly smell the scent of wood, food, and some sort of incense I didn't recognize as I entered. It was pleasant and not crowded.
I approached the woman who seemed to be in charge, "Hello, I need a room for tonight and your best food." I said.
The owner smiled, "That will be 7 silver stags."
That was expensive but considering it was the best Inn in Lannisport, it was not strange.
I had already some since I bought the map, and despite how expensive it was, the map had cost slightly less than 2 gold dragons. That meant I had a lot of copper and silver coins of Westeros on me. Unfortunately, they couldn't be put in the system storage.
I handed her the silver stags and she gave me a key while she asked, "How may I call you, sir?"
I froze, 'What should I call myself? A name that would fit this world...'
Seeing her confused look towards my reaction made me quickly say the first thing that came to mind, "Leon."
Thus I took the name Leon from this day. It was a name I liked and it meant lion. A great name.
She nodded and pointed at a seat, "I will prepare your meal."
I sat there and when the food came, I wolfed it down like an animal due to my hunger and went to my room to sleep and prepare myself for tomorrow.
I was going to start one of my plans...
