New Organization

It had been a week since Sherlock met the Ancient One. After deciding to start his magic training starting next month, Sherlock started to prepare for the immediate future. He decided to keep his identity as a private consultant as it was convenient. But this time he wouldn't be solving the cases himself.

That's right! Sherlock had decided to take up an assistant. And who better to assist him than his future archenemy, James Moriarty himself? Sherlock had many considerations when coming to the decision of recruiting Moriarty.

Except for being a genius and a master of crime, Moriarty was able to create a crime syndicate that spanned all of Europe with practically no one being able to point at him as the head of the hidden crime empire, until Sherlock at least. And Sherlock needed this kind of genius under him.

A hidden organization, spanning the globe, keeping track of all the information and unusual things, directly reporting to himself. Sherlock could see the merit of such an organization, especially in this world he was currently living. He couldn't think of a better candidate for leading such an organization other than Moriarty.

As for where the funding for this organization would come from, Sherlock decided to discuss with his brother if the British Empire was interested in funding him. If not, he would have to look for other alternatives. One of which is organized crime.

You see, although the Holmes brothers were taught morals, they were not exactly the righteous heroes. Sherlock started solving crimes as a hobby and while he certainly despises the heinous criminals, he has no delusions of ending crime itself.

Crime, gangs, and syndicates will always exist, and as a veritable genius, Sherlock was aware of this. And while crude and not something he would like, he was not above using organized crime as a tool to maintain order while accomplishing his own goals.

'I'll think of that later. There are still other ways I can finance the organization so I'll keep the crime route as a last resort. First I need to find The Professor, he should just be starting out in creating his empire.'

Sherlock was currently walking toward an inconspicuous government building. The work happening inside the building was anything but inconspicuous though. It was the building of the British Royal Secret Service. And also where Mycroft's office was located.

****************

Inside Mycroft's office, the two brothers were sitting across from each other. Mycroft was looking at Sherlock with a disbelieving look on his face. "So, you're saying that you're going to learn magic, create a secret private organization, and to top that off you want to recruit a criminal who is good enough to hide from us?"

"Come on Mycroft, you know you're working with idiots here. Also, the professor is not just any street thug. The man is a university professor of mathematics. So are you funding the organization or not." Sherlock replied while also insulting the secret service.

Mycroft looked tired as he spoke slowly, "How would I even justify funding a private organization? And that too with almost the same work area as what we already do?"

"Although I already expected that, it's a disappointment. Then can you at least help me get trading permits across the British Empire and also help me set up a global trading company?" Sherlock spoke lazily.

"So you are going that route huh? That's pretty clever actually. We could even use the same channels. I can work with that, but why the interest in creating this organization? What are you trying to do Sherlock?" Moriarty's tone clearly conveyed that the answers to these questions determined whether he'd help.

"You know as much as I do that this world isn't really safe or peaceful. My abilities help me predict things, think of it as something similar to what you do, only I can predict further. And I see chaos, wars, and instability in the future. So, I just want to be ahead of others. Also, it just sounds interesting." Sherlock replied mischievously.

While the explanation felt iffy, the last line sold it for Mycroft. He then thought of something and spoke, "Talking about the future, remember the girl from the other day? She turned out to be a mutant with abilities to see parts of the future but could only write them in cryptic forms. But using the ability took her sight a little bit every time."

"Oh, that's an unfortunate but useful ability." Sherlock was interested in such an ability. But before he could get excited Mycroft spoke, "Yeah we brought her in but turns out most of the events she recorded were about the mutant-kind. She has been running around changing the future. We are trying to decipher the last few pages currently."

"I'd like to meet this girl if I have the chance. What's her name again?" Sherlock asked, he could still get something from talking to the mutant he hoped.

"It's Irene Adler." At Mycroft's answer, Sherlock was stunned silent.

'Is this the effect of this being a different world? Even in this unfamiliar world, something brought her in front of me. What are the chances I'd notice and choose her out of everyone in London?'

'Is this the machination of the author? I won't be swayed by the feelings I once had for someone in an entirely different reality just because a version of them exists here.'

Sherlock gritting his teeth, once again became aware of the indestructible barrier and the heavy gazes on the other side of it. That was his goal.

Noticing that Sherlock was in an abnormal state, Mycroft called out, "Sherlock! Are you okay?" Sherlock came back to his senses. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just thinking of something."

Although the story is a bit slow paced I hope you like the world building I'm currently attempting. Share your thoughts in the comments.
