Julia was driving so fast that little Anna felt they were going to fly.
-Mom, please, slow down, I am really scared. The 14-year-old holding herself in the seat next to her cried. Julia wiped a tear running from her eyes and looked in the mirror to see the two SUVs chasing her. Her wet eyes laid on her terrified daughter
_ Annaliz baby, I am sorry, but I need you to be strong for me, we're meeting your uncle, Alex, so I need to hurry, OK?
Anna was about to reply when the bullets started flying and the glass was shattering around, Anna covered her ears and closed her eyes, calling her mother. Julia, hurt and scared couldn't panic or give up. She pulled Anna to her lap, covering her with her body.
-Listen, honey, her weak, shaken voice came to Anna's ears - This is not your fault, it is mine, I love you and your brothers and your dad. Julia took three bullets and was bleeding badly, still, she kept driving, hoping she'd get to the police station and save her little girl. However, she could feel the blood draining out of her, declaring her sad ending so she did what she'd been doing for all the passing hour, sending her location to her youngest brother, Officer Alex Nilson. After a long chase, Julia finally stopped the car. Anna tried to move under her mother's heavy body, only to find her mom stopping her - don't baby, open the phone and call your dad quickly! Doing as told Anna called her dad - he was not answering, she told her mom with a crying voice. The half-conscious Julia took the phone and pushed some buttons, and her voice came out as a weak whisper - Richard, please, take care of the kids.
The warmth from the liquid falling on Anna, her mom's silence, and the sounds of the closing cars, all that, turned Anna's hidden fear into terror while she called her mother
-Mom, mom, mom, please... She wanted to turn around and see her face, but she was frozen in shock, realizing that the liquid she was soaked in was her mother's blood. Julia groaned in pain, and once more, she said, " It's my fault... Alex is coming, just hold on, honey, OK? Anna who felt relieved for a minute to hear her mom's voice nodded a yes. Her relief, though, washed away when the car's door was hit so hard that the broken glass cut her so hard. A tattooed arm pulled the door open and pushed Julia's body, which was lying on the wheel covering Anna's half-body by hers. Anna froze eyes closed till she heard a male voice saying - the reporter is dead... Anna's eyes shot open in horror, but before she could even react to her mother's death, a strange couple of eyes met hers. Her whole body shuttered when the man locked her eyes but the girl survived ... He didn't take his eyes off hers when he reached for a gun and pointed it at her head, and neither could Anna look away from him. Her, now crying eyes didn't even blink, only when she heard the shot her eyes managed to respond to her brain's orders and simply close.
When Anna opened her eyes again, she was in a white room, and her entire body was aching. She tried to move, but a cry escaped her because of the wave of pain that hit her. A couple of young men entered the room in a violent response to her cry. One of them, wearing an apron, froze at the door while the other one ran to her and held her, saying, "-Ohh baby girl, you scared me to death" Anna groaned in objection and pain because of his hug -Ohh, sorry baby girl, he said gently pushing her back to bed. However, his tired smiling face went even paler when she said with questioning eyes - what happened to me? And who are you? Adam's hand pathing her injured head stopped mid-air, and his head automatically turned to meet his brother's wide-open eyes, Sam looked back at his eldest brother and then to his little sister resting on a patient bed with almost all her body bandaged, somehow the doctor in him pushed him towards her, and his voice found his way out to say - Anna dear, how are you feeling. Anna kept silent for a moment, absorbing her status. She suddenly took a sharp breath, and her tears fell as the realization hit her
Is my name Anna? I don't know....me, or you. She pointed at Adam, who tried to reach her again only to find that she had curled up on the bed and screamed
-No, no, I don't know you ... Sam pathed his brother's shoulder and gently pushed him back. He stepped in closer to Anna and said with a shaking voice - Anna... your name is Anna. She lifted her head and met his eyes eager to know more, to hear something that might light the dark emptiness her brain was in. Seeing that he got her attention, Sam smiled and continued - You've been in a car accident, you hit your head pretty hard. Anna touched the bandage on her head like she had only now realized that it was there. Sam gave her enough time to take it in, and then he said, " This is why you're having a hard time remembering, but no need to panic my dear, It'll all come to you soon enough, OK? Anna looked at him for a second before she nodded a yes, Encouraged by her calm response Sam added, pointing at Adam - This is Adam, our eldest brother, and I am Sam, your favorite one, he winked at her at his final words. Anna couldn't fight a smile, and a familiar warmth reached her heart, she answered - aren't you a doctor, Sam looked at his apron and the ID Hanging on it and nodded - yes, I am, but I am here as your brother, another doctor is taking care of you, which reminds me that I've to call him, Adam here will stick around OK? Anna nodded a yes, watching him leave. Adam pulled a chair and sat next to her bed, Their eyes met, and Anna spontaneously noted
-You look beaten. Adam smiled, taken by surprise. His mind played a quick set of pictures of the past few days. The call that his mom and sister were taken to the hospital after an armed attack. The moment his mom was declared dead, her funeral, and three days of torture, he and Sam spent waiting for their little sister to open her eyes, and now the empty look she is giving him. He wanted to go out of there to get Sam to explain what was the matter with his baby girl. Is she going to be alright? What to say when she asks about her parents.
With endless questions, Adam sat outside the room waiting. Sam and another doctor came out of Anna's room. The doctor could see the questions in Adam's eyes, so he directly answered - she is asleep now, and she'll be so till tomorrow. When she wakes up, we'll do more tests, an X-ray, and see if the cause of the amnesia is physical or if she's just in shock. The doctor left. Adam dropped himself on the nearest chair, Sam sat next to him, and again, his silent question was answered - we could not tell whether she'd get her memories back or not... nothing was clear. The coming days are going to be even harder, we need to stay strong... do you get me, Adam? Adam took a deep breath and said, "We are all what she got, so we have no other choice."
