“What do you mean you have no idea?” Eli asks. We’ve finished dinner, and he is helping with the dishes to thank me for fixing dinner, but it’s a little unusual for him, so I think something’s up. Maybe having a mate has finally started to have an effect on him, and he knows he has to grow up a little.
“I mean, I think she might not want to be my mate,” I admit. It’s hard to say those words. Never in my life have I ever considered the fact that my mate might reject me. I am, after all, the Alpha. I try not to be cocky, but a certain amount of prestige does come with the title.
Not only that, I think I’m a pretty decent guy. Sure, I have my faults like everyone, but I also have a lot of good qualities that I think would be attractive to a woman.
Now, I’m standing in my kitchen drying my hands on a dishtowel wondering if the woman I’ve secretly had a crush on my whole life will say the words that will not only break my heart, they’ll visit doom upon my packs.
