[After breakfast]
"Listen up, everyone," I said, standing in the middle of our camp. "We have a big day ahead of us. Our target is a freaking mutated intelligent monster, and we need to be efficient and strategic. And just because we have good weapons doesn't mean we should go charging in. It's smart enough to dodge bullets."
I pointed to Jace, who was standing with his rifle slung over his shoulder.
"Jace, you and your team are heading to the lab Scarface mentioned," I said laying the map on the ground and showing him his target, "Your primary objective is to secure as much tech as you can carry. Any information you find is equally important. We have no idea what's inside there. So, hope there's something good left behind."
Jace nodded, his expression serious. "Got it. We'll be in and out before they even know we were there."
"Mia," I said, turning to her. "Your team is tasked with clearing the way to the highway. You're in charge. Make sure the path is safe and secure so we can retreat quickly if things go south."
Mia nodded, her eyes shining with determination. "You can count on me."
"Ange," I called out, and she stepped forward with her new sniper rifle. "Your sniper unit will provide cover and take out any high-priority targets. Keep an eye on the rooftops and any other vantage points." I glanced toward Mom, "You'll be with Ange... Huh?!" Jennifer Lawrence was also carrying a sniper rifle and looked at me with a smile. "Jennifer too."
Mom nodded, "Sure!"
"It's time to carry my weight," Jennifer added with a confident smirk.
Ange nodded, a focused look on her face, "We'll keep the skies clear and provide distractions and heavy damage."
"Finally," I said, looking at the group, "the fourth team, led by Tyger, Jenny, and myself, will be the vanguard. We'll be the first to engage the mutated Spiderman. The rest of you will provide cover fire and take out the mutated spiders. Your job is to make sure we can focus on the main target without distractions."
The members of the fourth team, including Tyger and Jenny, stepped forward, ready for the challenge ahead. The remaining members also nodded, understanding their crucial role in the mission.
"WE ARE GONNA FUCK UP THIS ZOMBIE SPIDERMAN FOR GOOD! YOU READY?" I shouted.
"YES!" They all cheered.
"LET'S DO IT!!" I shouted and fist-bumped Tyger and Jenny.
With the team assignments clear, everyone began to gather their gear and make final preparations. I took a moment to check my own equipment, ensuring everything was in place. My inventory system was loaded with medical supplies, ammunition, and the new energy weapons we had acquired. Plus my favorite arrows.
Tyger was busy checking her rifle, while Jenny was carefully packing her gear. I went to them, giving each a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "You ready for this?" I asked.
Tyger grinned, her eyes filled with a mix of excitement and determination. "You bet. Let's take this bastard down." She lightly bumped my shoulder.
Jenny nodded, her face serious. "Finally, some frontline action for me." She cracked her fingers.
As everyone gathered for a final briefing, I looked out at the group, feeling a surge of pride. We were a motley crew, but we had become a formidable team. I took a deep breath and addressed them one last time before we set out.
"Remember, stick to the plan. Watch each other's backs. We're stronger together. Let's move out!"
.
.
We moved out in our assigned teams, each group heading to their designated locations. The journey to Kentucky was tense, the air thick with anticipation. The roads were littered with abandoned vehicles and debris, making our progress slow but steady. We decided to keep our storage trucks a few clicks away from harm's way. That way once the road is clear, Mia will signal them for the go. There will be eight guards in the trucks. And with the new weapons and armor, it should be enough to keep any surprise attack at bay.
As we neared the heart of Kentucky, the signs of spider infestation became more visible. Webs crisscrossed the buildings, and the ground was littered with the remains of previous battles. Trees, houses, well, almost everything was covered in the web. It's like a cocoon. Those filthy bastards... I hate spiders... But, can't show my weakness here. Anyway, the main point is that we didn't came across any zombies or spiders so far.
Jace's team was the first to branch off, heading towards the location marked as Spiderman's lab. "Good luck," I called out to him. He gave a thumbs-up before leading his team toward their target. The rest of us continued on, staying alert for any signs of danger.
Mia's team was next. Our eyes met briefly as she passed by, and she flashed me a confident smile. "See you soon," she said before disappearing around the corner with her group. I felt a twinge of worry but pushed it aside, knowing she would be okay. She should be alright. No point in thinking negatively after coming this far.
Ange's sniper team took up positions on high ground, scanning the area for any threats. "We've got you covered," Ange reported. "No movement so far. But there are too many holes all over the town. Those pesky bastards must be hiding underground."
"Alright, team. Time to go on foot," I said, eyeing the webby town before us. I turned toward our driver, "You see danger, you drive straight for the highway."
He nodded, gripping the steering wheel tightly. "Be careful, boss."
"Will do," I said, giving him a reassuring pat on the shoulder. With that, we moved out, leaving the safety of our vehicles behind.
We advanced slowly, our footsteps muffled by the thick layers of webbing that coated the ground. The air was thick with tension, every shadow a potential threat. Tyger and Jenny flanked me, their eyes scanning the area for any signs of movement. The rest of the team members followed us behind.
"Keep an eye out for any surprises," I murmured, my voice barely audible. "We don't want to get caught off guard."
Suddenly, a rustling noise echoed from a nearby building. We froze, weapons at the ready. A large spider, its eyes glinting under the dim shades of sun rays, crawled out from a darkened alley. It was quickly followed by another, then another, until a swarm of mutated spiders filled the street. These bastards are crawling out of the holes!
Shit! Seeing them close is too gross. They are big and hairy. Some look like tarantulas. Some looked like those giant spiders from those spider movies. Fuck!! I hate spiders... I need to hold it back. Not now! Focus!
"Here they come," Jenny muttered with a slight smirk, raising her weapon.
"OPEN FIRE!!" I commanded, and the air was filled with the deafening roar of gunfire. Our new energy weapons cut through the spiders like a hot knife through butter, but for every spider we killed, two more seemed to take its place. The swarm pressed forward, relentless in their pursuit.
"Watch your six!" Tyger shouted, blasting a spider that had crept up behind me. "They're coming from everywhere!"
"We need to keep moving!" I yelled over the chaos. "We can't let them surround us!"
"Throw grenades in those holes," Ange's voice crackled over the radio. "It will trap them underground!"
"Spread out and dump those grenades in these holes. HURRY!" I ordered, and my team moved into action.
Grenades were dropped down the spider holes, and the ground rumbled as explosions rocked the area. Spider corpses rained down, their bodies twitching as they were torn apart by the blasts. It was like a geyser of mutated spider flesh and blue blood erupting from the ground. GROSS!
"HAHAHAHA!" Tyger laughed, her face smeared with spider blood. "Now THAT'S what I'm talking about!"
"Keep going!" I urged, checking my weapon's charge. "We need to head into the town center for our spidey boy!"
With renewed determination, we fought our way through the seemingly endless wave of spiders. Our new energy weapons proved to be a game-changer, cutting through the mutated monsters with ease. We pressed on, the spiders' bodies piling up around us. Just as we could reach the town center, a loud, chittering noise echoed through the street. The ground shook, and a massive form emerged from the shadows.
