Dante studied the files on the holographic display. They were a jumble of financial records, security logs, and encrypted messages. It was clear that Elena had stumbled onto something big, something that went all the way to the top.
"I need to know more," Dante said. "Who are you working for? What's their endgame?"
Elena hesitated, her eyes filled with fear. "I can't say," she finally replied. "All I know is that they call themselves 'The Resistance.' They're a group of hackers and activists who are trying to bring down the corporations from within."
Dante had heard rumors of The Resistance before - a shadowy organization that operated on the fringes of society, striking out against the corporate giants that controlled the city. But he had always dismissed them as little more than a conspiracy theory.
"Are they the ones who sent you to me?" Dante asked.
Elena nodded. "They said you were the only one who could help me, who could help us. They told me to give you this."
She handed Dante a small data chip. It was unmarked, but he could tell that it contained something important.
"Take it," Elena said. "It's everything I've gathered so far. It's the key to exposing the truth."
Dante pocketed the chip, his mind racing. He had a decision to make - to help Elena and The Resistance, to take on the might of the corporations, or to turn and walk away, to leave the city to its own devices.
