"Welcome back home,4" the old security guard greeted Selena and Rowan as they walked back into the apartment building. "Thanks," Selena replied with a smile as the two headed to the elevator and up to their room.
Opening the door, Rowan stepped inside, his eyes darting around the familiar mess of Selena's apartment. He let out a tired sigh as he slumped down on the couch, his muscles aching as he tried to relax. Selena followed in behind him, shutting the door and locking it before joining him on the couch. "This has been a long week." He said, glancing at Selena as she stretched her arms up in the air.
"No kidding," she muttered, nodding her head in agreement. "At least the curse is sealed for the moment." She pointed out as she slouched back against the soft cushions of the sofa. "Ya, for the moment." He responded, scratching the back of his head."So, what now?" He asked, looking over at her and noticing how tired she looked. "We relax; take it easy," she answered, turning on the TV and switching it to a movie channel. "At least till I get a new job or they find a heart for you." She continued, sighing as she lay her head back against the couch, half-mindedly watching TV. "I guess that sounds good to me," he said with a shrug, laying back against the soft fabric and closing his eyes. The room was silent, the sound of the television filling the space as the two lay still, enjoying each other's company.
The morning sun was shining through the curtains, lighting up the room as Rowan blinked his eyes open. Looking up, he saw Selena nudging him awake. It's been a week since they have came back from the clinic and got some rest. "Come on, I have a job." She said to him as he got up, rubbing his eyes, "Come one, go take a shower. We will stop at the dinner to get breakfast before heading out. The job is in another town." She told him as she was already getting ready, pulling off her shirt and shorts and showing off her body to Rowan as she dug through her closest, looking for her armor and gear.
Rowan was snapped out of his stupor from ogling her figure and nodded, quickly getting up and heading to the bathroom. Turning on the shower, he stripped himself of his clothes before stepping in, the warm water flowing over his skin. Stepping out, he dressed in a pair of jeans and a hoodie as he joined Selena in the living room.
"Here catch." Selena said tossing him a package. Catching it, he looked at it curiously. "It's from the Mutt." She explained as he opened it up, finding a revolver and a note. "Use this to blast some warlocks head-on, kid." It read as he showed Selena, getting a snort from her."Sounds like him." She said as he stowed it in his belt. "You know how to shoot, right?" Selena asks him, to which he nods his head. "Yes, Draven showed me during training when you were hanging out with Sammy." He replied as she grinned, "So that's what you two were doing." She said it with a chuckle as she picked up her blade and luggage bag. "I already got some of our clothes packed; we shouldn't be away for too long." She said as she headed out the door.
"So what are we hunting?" He asks as they get in her old Mustang and drive off towards the diner. "We are not hunting this time, more like a protection detail." She replied as they arrived at the diner, parking the car next to the wooden sign. "Protecting who from what?" He asks as he unbuckles his seat belt. "A small town out east has been having mysterious disappearances with no traces. A couple of scouts went to check it out, but they vanished as well." She explains as they walk to the door, opening it, they are greeted by the small, red-headed succubus.
"Selena and Rowan, wasn't it?" She said, greeting them and eyeing Rowan up and down, much to Selena's displeasure. "Yes, hello, Lilly." She said it with a slight scowl as the red head smiled sweetly. "What can I get for you today?" She asks as she grabs two menus from under the counter. "Coffee and pancakes for me." Selena replied as she slid into one of the bar stools. "Eggs and bacon with orange juice, please." Rowan said, avoiding eye contact with the waitress, the smell of her arousal made him uncomfortable."Sure thing, I will be right back." She said with a flirtatious smile at Rowan and a glare from Selena as she walked into the back.
"Damn succubus." Selena muttered as she rested her chin in her hands. "At least she hasn't tried anything like last time." Rowan replied, thinking back to the first time and how flirty she was. "Here you two go." Lilly came back out after a couple minutes and handed them their drinks. "Thank you." They both said it in unison as they took a sip of their coffee. "So, Selena, how is life treating you recently? I haven't seen you in a couple weeks." She asked curiously as she leaned against the counter. "It's going fine; it would be better without a whore eyeing up my man." She replied as she drank her coffee. "Oh, but he is so cute." Lilly teased, not minding the name-calling."Ya, he is cute, and he is mine." Selena growls at her in warning, getting a pout from the succubus. "Fine, fine, this is why Shifters suck," she pouted, going back to the kitchen to cook up their food.
Selena just rolls her eyes at that comment: "So do you two hate each other or something?" Rowan asks curiously. "Nah, she is a good friend." Selena replies, shrugging her shoulders."So any idea what is attacking the town?" Rowan said he was changing the topic as he sipped his orange juice. "Probably a group of fairies toying with humans. Some times they will pick up random humans and take them to their realm." Selena says with a sigh, "Luckily, they very rarely kill their captives; just keep them around for a bit." She says while rubbing her neck.
"Like, how long is a bit?" Rowan is a bit creeped out at the idea. "Depending on the fairies, their realm has a different time scale; sometimes a day is a year, so they don't even notice how long they have held the people."Rowan just grimaced at the explanation, thinking how crazy that could get. "Any other possibilities?" He inquired as Selena shrugged her shoulders.
"Sure, a whole lot of them," she said as a plate of food was placed in front of them. "Enjoy," Lilly said, giving Rowan a wink as Selena just rolled her eyes.Rowan ignored the waitress, focusing on eating his food as Selena finished her meal in a matter of minutes. "As always, great food here." Selena said with a smile, dropping $50 on the counter. "Thanks for coming, and come back anytime." Lilly said with a wave as the pair got up and headed out.
