Chapter Three

"What an unpleasant surprise. I'd love to stay and chat, but I think I will leave Bowdey for that." Valen said making a move to head back into the darkness of the trees; but he was stopped suddenly. The first and biggest wolf began taking his human form, as his other wolves moved in front of Valen. Bowdey remained still. "No need to rush away Valen. Let's talk." Tate the pack leader demanded. "Calm down Tate and fetch yourself a bone. I was just causing some trouble here for Bowdey. Seems he can't catch his prey." Now Valen laughed. The silver wolves, all now in their human form, looked at Bowdey. Tate moved closer to him, as he took another step back. "You half breed Hunter's should have been taken care of long ago." "That's nice to hear you've thought about us for so long." Bowdey laughed sarcastically as Tate squinted his eyes. "Half breeds are a special type of immortal, yet you and your family want to get rid of them. That's disappointing." "It's life. Me and my family are just trying to keep a balance between the mortal and immortal world." Bowdey said flatly. Tate and the other wolves didn't think he was as amusing as Bowdey obviously thought he was. "Seems to me the only monster's around here are the full blooded ones." Tate said, looking at Valen as he spoke. "I'm content with myself thank you." Valen sighed approvingly. "I can remember you're ancestors starting your....clan. A rookie bunch obviously, but they were very good. Responsible for hundreds of deaths among the half breeds; until they got careless. That's when you Hunter's are easiest to kill. When you get careless. So tell me....who's your target this time?" Tate looked around expectantly; but everyone remained quiet.

"Me." Everyone turned to see Makenna standing confidently. Tate let out a small laugh. "Makenna. What a surprise." "Not really. It just seems our little game just got more interesting." She smiled a mischievous grin. "I hear he can't keep up with you? How amusing." Tate grinned. "Well humans have been known to be slower and lack in common sense." Valen added. "We obviously have more than you think." Bowdey butted in. "We have been chasing each other for a long time. Somehow he continues to find me although never actually getting close enough." Makenna glared. Bowdey just eyed her distastefully. "Why don't we make this simple?" Tate moved in one quick flash, grabbing Bowdey's throat. "Humph!" He groaned struggling to get out of Tate's grip; but to no avail. Makenna and Valen both looked on from a distance. "Any other time, I wouldn't care; but he's mine to dispose of and I like taking care of my own problems, especially with our history together." Tate turned from her, back to a still struggling Bowdey. "True; but just the chance to get rid of one more Hunter would be lovely to brag about." He laughed, his fangs peeking from under his gums. Bowdey reached his hand into his back pocket, pulling a small dagger. While it was true Silver Wolves couldn't be killed, he could try and fight him off long enough to get away. The other wolves caught sight and quickly moved towards them, as Bowdey swung the blade around. Tate however was to quick, and grabbed the handle with ease sending the dagger to the ground; but not before leaving a deep gash in Bowdey's cheek. At the same time Makenna moved in a flash, hitting Tate's arm, causing him to loose his grip on Bowdey.

Fangs appeared all around, as tempers flared. She and Tate stood looking dangerously at each other. "Seems we are at a draw Makenna." He hissed. "As I said.....I like to handle my own problems, and you are getting in my way." From behind another wolf growled, lunging for her. His claws extended, meeting her arm as Tate grabbed him, throwing him backwards. "Enough!" He screamed. "Get back!! You can have him Makenna; but be warned....I will not keep my wolves away from him next time." He spit, giving her a cold hard look as he and his wolves retreated back into the woods. "Well I can see it's time for me to retreat as well." Valen said disappearing quickly. Bowdey stood slowly, touching his hand to his face. It was already sore, and bleeding steadily. Makenna looked down at her arm, then back at him. "Until next time...."She let out a small breath; but before she could get away, he grabbed her bleeding arm. A sudden, sharp pain shot through them. Bowdey and Makenna both cried out, before he was finally able to let go of her. She got to her feet quickly and looked at him. He lay face down, struggling to get to his feet; moaning in pain. "Mmmm....." Makenna couldn't comprehend what had just happened between them; but not taking any chances, she disappeared leaving him alone in the blackness.
