Player Huntin'

'They have 30 health, 5 damage and 5 speed. Higher health than us but the same stats except magic and defense. These were definitely made to be done in a party, not solo. I wonder how Derek and Kyle are doing.'

After observing other parties fight for the last half hour or so, he realized that the devs didn't want people playing solo. It didn't cater to their play style so far, but it was still possible.

'30 sec reload and a 40 sec heal time for monsters.' Jax came to know that monsters heal after 40 seconds of not being attacked. He found out because another idiot shouted it out to his teammates for some reason.

That meant he had a 10-second gap to aim and fire again so if the rabbit chased after him or ran from him, it would become difficult. Supposedly monsters don't attack, run, or chase unless they see someone or they are low on health.

'I may have to chase it after 2 shots.' Jax didn't know what percent of health meant the monster would try to run away, but he wanted to be prepared for anything. He quickly fired a shot and hid behind the tree. He heard a squeal, meaning he got a hit, and he slowly peaked around to see if it moved.

Luckily, it seemed to have stayed in the same place, only moving around a little to eat and lick its wound on its leg. Jax wasn't sure if hitting certain areas of the body did any favors for him, but he wanted to test it. If it worked, it meant headshots were effective and hitting limps could slow them down.

He could've gone for a headshot, but was worried that a headshot still wouldn't kill it, and would risk it running away. He also didn't know if critical hits were a thing, as it never happened to him regardless of where he hit the monsters he kill stole.

When the 30 seconds were up, he quickly aimed again, this time going for a headshot. If a headshot dealt extra damage, he could end it now, otherwise, he would still have to chase after it. Hopefully hitting its leg would hinder its movement making it easier for him.

*Pew!* (A/N that's my gun sound effects :) )

Not even waiting for the confirming squeal, Jax made his way out, expecting a chase to happen.

*Squeal* *flop* (A/N enjoy my sound effects!)

Looking over, the rabbit was on the ground still. A bullet hole through its skull, and a system confirmation told him that headshots were a thing. On top of that...

[ {Headshot!} {Critical Hit!} You dealt 30 dmg! Rabid Rabbit had died! ]

Jax smirked knowing things were looking up for this solo player. Headshots were easy enough to get as long as he aimed properly but he didn't know how hard to get a crit was. Considering he didn't get any before, it either means headshots only deal crits, or the crit rate is really low. He was leaning towards the latter.

He picked up the items, receiving a [Lucky Rabbit's foot] and a [Rabbit skin], along with 5 copper. The monetary system was simple enough. 100 copper for 1 silver, 100 silver for 1 gold, and 100 gold for a platinum coin. It changes a bit once you get to platinum coins, as many of the kingdoms used gems and jewels to trade for more expensive things, as it was harder to get a grasp on how much those costs unless someone specialized in gem appraisal.

Both the foot and the skin could be sold or used in basic alchemy, but since alchemy was more of a mid-game thing, everyone sold it. Alchemy was supposedly a sub-class, something that was mentioned by a beta player, but that was all the info was. Jax assumed it was something similar to other games where you could get an "extra" class, and have more versatility.

He was ready to move on when he heard distant shouting. He followed it, as it sounded like troubled players and came near a clearing where 9, well now 8 people were fighting a wolf monster. It was huge, at least 5 feet tall, and had just finished munching on a tank, as the player turned into particles.

"Shit! Who brought a level 5 monster here! No one here is above level 4!" One player, a warrior said. Jax was kind of surprised. Not too much though, as this was around the boundary between the noob beginners part of the forest, and the more experienced beginners. Going further in the forest would mean level 5 and higher monsters, while all the rabbits Jax had killed had probably been level 1 or 2, so there was either another monster for levels 3 and 4, or it was mixed between rabbits and wolves that were in that range.

The players continued panicking as Jax observed, waiting for a good chance to join in. He was hoping for the players to organize themselves but that wasn't happening, they were idiots running around like their heads were cut off. Although they dealt good damage from what he could observe, he didn't know how much health was left and the players had already hit 5, with all the tanks and warriors gone except one.

"Quickly! Get into a simple formation with the warrior in front, if you guys wanna take this down we gotta work together!" The priest yelled out, actually getting the rest of the group to calm down. Jax was shocked someone actually had a brain in this situation but it made sense for it to be the healer.

He's able to see the entire field while fighting so he can organize everyone more effectively, plus he is the one in charge of healing the frontline, which separates all the squishy players from the heavy-hitting monster. Definitely an important role.

The warrior yelled back, "Make a party then! I'm not gonna sacrifice myself for you if I don't get anything out of it!" Although his attitude was bad, the priest agreed and made one, allowing everyone to gain experience when the monster died, if it died by their hands at least.

Jax had been watching the battle, but also his surroundings, as he could tell at least 2 other players came and were watching. One was a marksman like him, but he had a newer-looking flintlock instead. He was watching from the trees, while another warrior was there, but he was blatantly watching out in the open with a smug look on his face.

'His arrogance is out of this world, he's probably only level 2 with his equipment.' Jax thought as he looked at him. The only good thing he saw on him was leather armor for his torso. He didn't even have a new sword, it was still the starter.

Jax knew he could one-shot him if he got a headshot. Even with the added 5 stat points from each level up, if he put them all in health, which he most likely put it all in attack instead, he would still be able to kill him. The same went for the hunter as long as the armor he wore didn't have special attributes, also highly unlikely.

By this time, the makeshift party had gotten settled. The warrior tanked, the healer healed, the two mages fired fireballs, and the rogue attacked the wolf from behind before backing away. Simple, yet effective, but it looked like the wolf would last for a while longer, so Jax decided to go after the other players hanging around.

He looked at the two once more before deciding.

'Marksman first.'
